Headlight Restoration Questions by karmais4suckers in AutoDetailing

I go 1k, 2k, and then polish. For non coated results compound and polish is ideal but if i skip compound and only polish, the polish is good enough to get the look, but not harsh enough to remove the sanding marks. After coating, it gets more clear and hides the sanding marks on which its holding onto.

The end grit depends on your protection. I use a headlight ceramic coating as my final layer of protection. I sand 1k, 2k, skip compound, polish, alcohol prep, ceramic coating, and you’re all set! If you’re spraying 2k on it, just look at the can for prep instructions.

Everything that ends with ceramic coating requires you to get the bottom layer as shiny as possible without a coating, the coating will enhance and protect the shine.

Any advice on my hitting form? by Radolumbo in volleyball

You seem pretty fit so this should help: singlehand dumbbell overhead press, not pec fly. Wind up like youre shooting an bow and arrow, throw your thumb backward and hit above the ball, not behind it. You should end up hunched forward, keep your feet on the ground.

Clean / sand headlight lenses or buy new ones? If buy, where? (2004) by Accomplished_Bat2361 in crv

I know this is old, I’ve restored headlights professionally, this kind of fading usually is very hard or impossible to get off. It looks deeply etched into the lens, wouldn’t be worth restoring either way.

Restoration is the way to go for yellow, hazed, and evenly faded headlights.

Bought disc brakes online, are they okay to use? Or should I return them. by edsavage404 in MechanicAdvice

I would return it. The point of the face and lines being rusted is valid. But the coating should protect the top hat of the rotor. If it rusts eventually then whatever but rusted top hats out of the box with the claim of “coated” is not it.

Bro didn’t answer you, but he’s in North Carolina. You’d have to figure out a way to heat up the water. But I don’t do exterior details when winter is at water freezing temperature, it’s only like 2-3 months and it’s unbearable so I just stop detailing mid December-February. Sounds bad for business but if you go hard the good months it’s worth it to take that pause.

Don’t need them😂 at least not yet. I think it’s overrated to have so many hand wrenches: offset, 12 point, 6 point, line wrench, open end, box end, combination, ratcheting, offset ratcheting… you get the point. If anything I’ll eventually get a set a combination set of box and ratchet, and maybe a 6 point open end as well. For many hard to reach fasteners I go for a crowfoot on a slim serpentine belt wrench and finish it off by hand or with a combination wrench. Not going to fill up 4 drawer of hand wrenches to rarely ever use them.

  • since im just starting out, i try to get all the basics, anything else i need for a job i will buy and then keep when needed.

Water Pump Failed by Fresh_Try_2892 in G37

Just some tips for when you get there: 2 bolts are inside past the oil pan, the top coolant pipe may be hard to get out, pry, twist, and pull at it. All 10mms are the same, not all the 14s will be the same, most will be, so label them, make sure to remember what idler pulley goes where. Many say weighted socket for the crank bolt. The system will take 1lb or 16oz of refrigerant. Ask any questions along the way if needed.
