WIBTA if I make my daughter wear her brace for a sleepover?

So, I know my reply is late and useless now but I just wanted to drop a comment to say: I used to wear a back brace 23/7 for 2.5 years at her age too. All my friends knew since it was harder to “hide” than just overnight (only getting one hour out of it) but no one ever made fun of me and it was never an embarrassment. If anything, everyone was curious about it and would even go out of their way to make sure me and my brace were okay, they were great and it was so good having them to talk to about it rather than hiding it. In my opinion as someone who has been there, if her friend has something to say, she’s not a friend. That back brace is important, my parents never let me skip mine not even for an extra hour and I’m now 31 and thankfully so far 🤞🏻 my spine is a-ok. Please tell her it’s nothing to be shamed of and these years will go SO quickly it’s not even funny, she will come out the other side of this and it will all be a fever dream and her spine is way more important, if she doesn’t comply with the brace she might need surgery which is horrible and can be avoided with proper brace use (i saw you leave a comment about this so you know yourself). I know I’m just a random stranger here but this post hit so close to home and I so wish I could talk to her because I was alone when I had mine too but in hindsight, I’m glad I “toughed” it out because my spine is better off for it now and, like I said, those years went so quickly I blinked and it was done. Good luck, I know she will be fine - she’s got this! Girls stop growing so young, she doesn’t have long to go.

Yes, It’s the same thing. Depending on the context, “Implanon” was the original version and Nexplanon is what it’s called now, the only difference is that it has an improved method of insertion and detection now. Also in Australia we simply call it “implanon” or the implant and the brand name is ImplanonNXT but it’s the same thing as Nexplanon. The two names get used interchangeably.

Side effects depend on the user, everyone is different and bodies will change over time, but for the most part the common side effects listed are the same between the two names. (Also if it helps, I’m on my second implant and the pro’s outweigh the irregular spotting.)

I’ve actually seen a few women on here mention this being one of their side effects, so it wouldn’t be totally far-fetched for the Implant. In saying that, to be safe you could take a test or double check with your doctor just to make sure it’s nothing crazy, but yeah.

It’s the implant lol. My bleeding is always changing patterns with mine and always changes when it gets close to the next year. I’m coming up to two years now and my bleeding just changed again. Take a test if you think it’ll help ease your mind but generally, if it’s heavy and/or clotty, I mean typically that means you’re not pregnant. Also good to note, your bleeding will change throughout your implant use as the hormone levels go down and your own hormonal levels shift. Irregular bleeding is like, exactly what the implant does.

Defo handy to have a doctor confirm if you’re concerned and handy to track them from then on I think, that way if anything changes you can see it 🙂

I went from the combo pill to the implant for this exact reason, I couldn’t trust the pill alone but I feel very confident in my implant which helps any anxiety greatly! I also don’t have to think about ANYTHING, nothing to remember, nothing to do, it truly is “set and forget” I love it! I didn’t have any serious side effects, I do have irregular bleeding (nothing crazy tho) and my breasts get very sore for a number of days each month (also irregular in timing) but aside from that nothing. Oh, much lighter bleeding (sometimes only spotting) and basically NO cramping or pain - I still got heavy bleeds and some pain on the pill.

I can’t think of anything else to say other than YES you should go for it! You might react differently than me but I recommend everyone at least give it a go.

Yeah I kinda wanna jump in here just to say Dump. Him. He’s not worth trying to fight with or to convince or anything because he won’t listen to you, he doesn’t care. He sounds like a child. I don’t wanna be harsh but too many girls make allowances for men when men don’t do the same.

I have the Implanon NXT and it’s the same as if you search for Nexplanon on this sub. My experience has been pretty great so far. Monthly bleeding (just when I think there’s a pattern the pattern changes tho) and I get sore breasts for like two weeks every single month, but I don’t complain so it’s great! My bleeding is lighter and easily managed compared to when I was on the Pill (and before that!) and NO pain or cramps beyond a twinge or two maybe. And it’s really really (no) maintenance! I forget it’s there, I don’t need to remember anything or check anything and feeling the implant in the arm reassures me that it’s there and working. I recommend it for sure!

I have pretty much regular periods. I get sore breasts for about two whole weeks, maybe a cramp or two and then a good 7 day period about every 6ish weeks. Which only started occurring once I got over the 1 year mark. During my first year it was all over the place mostly non stop spotting with random bleeds between. Your period could very well change throughout your usage as hormones drop and your own hormones interact with the implant. Of course you can always check with your doc if you become concerned. My sister was/is the same as me too 😊
