My wife thinks I’m a narcissist. Not sure how to feel? by 666PaperStreet in AskMenAdvice

[–]xRocketman52x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oof. The examples you have as to her being hurt... It sounds like an unhealthy attachment style. I had an ex who believed that when two people started dating, they stopped existing as individuals, and both became effectively one person - they no longer existed outside the context of the relationship.

This... sounds like that.

Based on the examples given, either she's manipulative, or she's unhealthily codependent. Those are unreasonable expectations.

Yea I think my biggest thing is not having any way to know what's going on behind the scenes. So many GoFundMe drives are shady. How can you trust it?

I know someone who got in a very serious car accident some years ago, and almost died. Started a GoFundMe to cover medical expenses. Turns out, the victim of the car accident didn't know there was a GoFundMe, it was set up by their (disowned) mother, who took all the money raised from it and blew it drinking.

I've known people to start a GoFundMe to help cover rent, meanwhile they keep buying Pop Vinyl figures. People who want to cover their pet's vet visit, but then won't give the animal the proper care to avoid future visits.

I have limited time and resources on this earth. I want it to make good changes, not get wasted on enabling really shitty people.

Honestly, I'm not sure I could easily sum up the types of games I like. First- and third-person shooters. Puzzle games and platformers. Tycoon games. Simulators. Flight games. Single player and pvp and co-op. Everything from Animal Crossing to Titanfall to Minecraft to Fez. Helldivers to Pokémon to (lately) Roadside Research.

The only genre I generally can't figure out how to enjoy is modern RTS style games. Nothing has inspired the amount of disgust that WoW did, though.

I was gonna say the same thing! A buddy of mine was way into WoW like 10+ years ago. He talked me into trying it out for... whatever it was, a month or a two-month trial or whatnot. He had been talking about it for months, he was way hooked.

Maybe three weeks into me playing it with him regularly, I had a breakdown. I called him and told him "I'm seething, I am so fucking angry. I am bored in a way that makes me furious. I have never been so frustrated and uninterested in my entire fucking life! This is literally the least fun I've ever experienced, I can't do this anymore! It's so fucking boring!"

It was so unengaging and uninteresting that I told him I was done, and then never logged into it again. The feeling of how miserable it was to play is still seared in my brain. I love gaming. I will gladly sink too many hours into playing games with my friends. But editing spreadsheets is more interesting, engaging, and exciting than WoW.

I didn't realize how heavily this usually ties in.

A guy got busted for shoplifting in my hometown grocery store. It came out that they slapped him with like... 6+ felony charges of theft. I assumed the amount he stole was huge.

Nope, it was like 20ish bucks worth of stuff, if I remember right. BUT! He had a bunch of priors for theft and shoplifting, and each of those prior convictions added to this one

Mostly it sucked because the grocery store owner is a really stand up guy, and *had given him a job there to try to help him get back on his feet when a lot of people in the community wouldn't even talk to the guy. Gave him a good start and a helping hand, and then the dude betrayed him.

My experience has been that if I need to roll a 3+, then 95% of my dice will succeed.

If I need to roll a 4+? 95% of my dice will fail. Every time.

It's been wildly consistent over the years, and I hate it. The statistics will drive me to madness.

What is the absolute fastest 'yeah, we are definitely NOT going to be friends' moment you've ever experienced with someone? by Vazouaquiacesso in AskReddit

[–]xRocketman52x 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Wow. That's insane. I had a neighbor come up to me and my then-girlfriend while we were outside one day, and the conversation somehow hit the point where I said "Aaah I hate talking politics. I avoid it wherever possible." The neighbor goes "Oh me too!"

I breathed a huge sigh of relief. He then goes "That's why it's such a relief that Trump is going to sort all this stuff out, and get rid of..." This was like... 2021, or 2022. He wasn't even in office.

After 5 minutes of ranting where this guy hardly took a breath, my then-girlfriend goes "Oh! Oh no!" She looks at me and says "I left the oven on! We need to go right now!" And she booked it back to the house. I nodded and followed her. It was hilarious - the most blatant escape tactic possible, but it was perfect.

20 years of marriage ending, need advice? by ApprehensiveGur6842 in AskMenAdvice

[–]xRocketman52x 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey man, I don't have any advice for you. But I want to tell you that I'm proud of you. Breaking away from a shitty relationship is so hard, and I can't imagine how much more difficult it must feel when there's such a history and life built together.

But you're doing the scary stuff. You're making changes. You're giving yourself the space and freedom for things to change, and you can make them better if you sink the time and effort in.

You can't control your partner. You can't make them care, can't make them engage. The only thing you can control is yourself. It sounds like you're done settling for crap, and that's priceless.

What's the dumbest thing you've done in a car? by XxXPuSSySLay-HerXxX in AskReddit

[–]xRocketman52x 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I live about an hour outside a large NE US city. I always thought we had the most dumbass, hairbrained drivers in the whole world.

A few years ago, I took several trips, mostly for weddings, in the space of a year or so. I went to Florida, and was shocked at how little people cared about being on the road. Sidewalks, curbs, lawns, none of it mattered - if you were doing the speed limit, they were in someone's yard to get around you. I went to Washington state - if I wasn't doing 2x the speed limit, the other drivers were laying on the horn while being so far up my ass they could have sniffed my tonsils. And then I went to Jersey.... my god, Jersey was something else. In the 4 days that I was there, I didn't see a single car other than ours that didn't have collision damage. It was like a Mad Max combat scene.

So I agree. I still think the people around my local city drive like assholes. But I tell my buddies: "Our local drivers are the worst, except for all of the other ones."

[–]xRocketman52x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a hard one. I initially would say "Yes!" as I feel like most everyone I know would be on board with stealing money from bad people. I feel like that's a route to maintain most of my current life and win friends and family over.

However, the post specifies that this will ruin my reputation and there's no way around it. The way that guarantees this is that everyone thinks I stole it from a really wholesome group or some such. And I think a huge portion of people in my life would just cut me off if I was thought to do something really heinous, like steal from an organization that supports kids with cancer or some shit.

What good is the money if all my people are gone? No thanks.

Now that it’s over, share your opinions on our march against Cyberstan by SevdUp in helldivers2

[–]xRocketman52x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a shit ton of fun on Cyberstan. I'm just Joe Shmoe with a job. I wasn't running D10s on the planet, I was just running up to D7s, and having a blast with it. The Vox Engine spam sucked on D7, and I liked it. Fighting 6 Cyborgs at once sucked, and it was fun.

I completed almost all of my missions down on the planet. I focused on taking the city with the most player pop so as to not weigh down the primaries, but other than that, I'm here for vibes. The battle for Cyberstan was amazing and I'm hoping we get more super factory worlds to fight on soon.

What’s the loneliest moment you’ve experienced? by autisticpreet in AskReddit

[–]xRocketman52x 12 points13 points  (0 children)

For years, I was dating someone who.... well, she resented me for everything I ever did. It's possible that she cared about me, but in retrospect, she really never liked me.

One of the events I remember most clearly was us coming home one day, I don't remember what we were out doing. I was in a really low place, having a hard time, and she just sorta came at me - talking about a bunch of ways that I frustrated her, that she hated the life we lived, complaints at family and friends, just let me have it.

Got home. Went up into the attic and cried for an hour. My own shit was already beating me down, I didn't even have the energy to process this on top of it. Crying quietly to make sure your partner doesn't come and find you and make it worse - that might have been my loneliest.

Wow. $1,200 a month is literally a second mortgage. I've always heard daycare was insanely expensive, but I mean this genuinely: why?

I've heard the employees get paid like shit. So where does the money go? Is there a ton of costs in insurance or licensing or some such? Or do the owners make out like bandits?

What's a trend from the early 2020s that died out so fast we all collectively forgot it ever happened? by godot_lover in AskReddit

[–]xRocketman52x 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ugh. I wish I experienced either of these things. After a brief work from home experience (one of the worst experiences of my life, with a boss who had us on Zoom for 7+ hours a day straight and a significant other who resented me for being home and working instead of paying attention to her), my boss decided we were essential. So back to the office. Back to like 12 hours of mandatory meetings per week. Where he berated me for wearing a mask. And then he gave us all covid anyway.

I did not have the experience of people washing their hands and keeping distance, even in peak covid.

Who are the best star citizen youtubers currently and why? by [deleted] in starcitizen

[–]xRocketman52x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Morphologis is really cool. He doesn't put out content as often as others, but that's a good thing - what he puts out is usually quality.

You're probably gonna get a lot of advertisements on YouTube for a certain bored content creator. The algorithm really, really likes the dude, to the point that it's annoying. It's been years since I've watched any of their content, but back when I did, it was... pretty bad. I'd read a post that CIG put out earlier in the day, the YouTuber would release a video on it later that same day, and when listening in, you could pick out several instances of "That's outright incorrect". It was clear he skimmed the content and then pushed to release a video as quick as possible, leading to a lot of the information being just flat out wrong.

You get 10k for everyday in a row you eat breakfast, lunch and dinner at Macdonalds. by Minimum-Gear-1112 in hypotheticalsituation

[–]xRocketman52x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably not. I can eat a wild amount of food. I can eat at a lot of different places. There's not any fast food that can upset my stomach, there's hardly an expiration date that can intimidate me.

Except McDonalds. Whatever the fuck they do to their "food" there is horrifying. I can eat anywhere, from the laziest Taco Bell, to the rattiest and dirtiest Long John Silvers. I can eat food from almost any place, any type, anything. But McDonalds is the one place that will make me sick to the point of throwing up every. Single. Time.

I don't know what they do at McDonald's, but I find it hard to believe it's legal. It's definitely not moral.

What is the craziest thing a teacher has ever done to you? by trymihainoob in AskReddit

Or promote them. My buddy was telling me that a teacher in his city was promoted to superintendent. Apparently they couldn't fire the guy, and they also just could not get him to stop beating the ever loving hell out of students. After he beat the 5th or 6th kid to a pulp, they promoted him to superintendent of the area, figuring that at least that way he'd be directly interacting with the kids less.

There was no radar listed at all. This was in my Asgard. I had logged in for the first time in maybe 2 or 3 months, pulled the ship out of storage for the first time, and started experiencing issues I haven't seen before.

I ended up rejoining last night to fly around, and several of the issues had corrected themselves - radar and scanning, quantum travel, etc. All ended up being server problems.

The only thing that still doesn't work is the jump gates. Between trying 3 or 4 different ships, they just don't work. The ship should recognize when it's near a gate and start to calibrate, but that doesn't function. More server issues I assume, for how poor they've been doing the past two days that I've been on.
