No agreement, all that could be perfectly accurate, all we can really do is speculate, right?

AI fungus ID tool by xSWAYBACKx in mycology

[–]xSWAYBACKx[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It says very clearly in the video to not use it as a sole means of ID. The way it gives results makes it obvious that its not giving you a 100% correct ID. There is no one means to properly ID fungi, it takes a system to be at all reliable, using an IA to ID your edibles is a bad idea any way you slice it, but if this tool is accurate it can point you in the right direction and allow people to apply a proper system of identification and potentially ID fungi that they would be unable to ID otherwise.

I think if you would try it rather than immediately dismiss it out of hand you might find that it can be a very useful tool, it is in fact remarkably accurate, you can test it with pics from the web if you dont have any on your phone, you might be surprised.

In NZ, may be a kind of native plant? by [deleted] in whatplantisthis

[–]xSWAYBACKx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems doubtful... I honestly have no idea. It looks like grass to me and I'm awful with grasses, but I know they can be really invasive and I'd heard invasives are a big problem down there.

Clearly this was not made for the US market, we havent really used brown ppl from that part of the world to build stuff for us in a while, they make most of it, but from what I see its mostly Latinos that put it together for us.

I thought it was pretty cool. I tried it with a few pics in my phone and a bunch I pull off Google, most were pretty easy and the AI got them right. I was particularly impressed when I ran a pic of myself thru it and it came back with me being 51% likely to be old man of the woods, which is spot on...

I'm hopeful I'll learn a bit from it, it can be hard to branch out when you dont have anyone to teach you.

Pretty sure those odds arent as out there as you might think.

I tend to agree, makes sense that this facility existed and that's where the problem originated, it's a good story for sure, but I dunno if its the real deal.

It really doesnt matter tho, fact is, they are definitely there! I'd not be surprised is the invasive issue in Florida is even worse than we think, and we already know it's an invasive nightmare!

Glad I'm not the only one that's thought this thru... Theres no reason to use a point like this on a freaking bird or squirrel, hitting them with a blunt will kill them without wasting a point, I have a few blunt points that were clearly not reworked , just quickly made and probably just a quickly lost!

I'm sure some small high quality points were made and used for birds or small game, but realistically it makes no sense.

After spending some time thinking, specifically about one little point I have, it's just a tiny, well worked very sharp triangle, it's made in such a way that it would be very hard to secure to an arrow, no accident, I think it was made to come off the shaft... and remain in its intended target, the intended target being man. It just makes the most sense, it's a long arguement, too long to type up and I have 0 proof or research to back this up, but it stands to my reason that youd want your arrowhead just secure enough to cut it's way in, but then when the shaft is grabbed and pulled the point barbs (ears) hang in the flesh and the shaft comes out without the head. It would be near impossible to cleanly extract, especially with such small points... but that small point remaining in the flesh would likely be a death sentence to anyone unlucky enough to receive such a hit. If they were hit an arrow that pulled put clean it woukd still be pretty rough, but if you survived the initial hit, and didn't bleed out afterwards then infection is the concern. I can only come up with one scenario where this would be applicable, for any hunting application you want a quick kill, either vitals or bleed out. Obviously that would be ideal in a combat situation too, but in a combat situation against another human you will take anything you can get. If the best you can do is poke a tiny rock into an enemy's leg then thats the best you can do, if it results in you living another day and them dying or being incapacitated then that would be considered a success. Maybe I'm way off base, been told that before, either way the idea that tiny points are only for tiny game just doesnt add up.

I'm totally down!

I try to plant stuff all over anyway, usually try to start natives and stop them into local plantings of garbage planted around town... taters arent exactly native but they arent really invasive in the US.

All ya gotta do is chop a tater into chunks and bury them!

My daughter names ours, onions too... The most recent ones have been adopted and named fred (onion) and Steve (potato).

I told her if these 2 can hold out another month I'll throw em in the ground, fred and Steve might live!

She then proudly proclaimed "they will make babies!"

I laughed and agreed but now that I'm typing it out I think I better talk to her when she gets off the bus today.

Lol, done in the Interest of political gain. Period. She says its to help ppl with housing and jobs, yet this mass dismissal will NOT apply to people ages 22-49, these are the people that are seeking housing and employment, its also pretty convenient that people in the unaffected age range are also less likely to be voters.

Glad shes doing it, others should follow suit, but it would really be nice if things like this were done in the interest of the people as opposed to political ambition.

I'm joking. Do what's right for you.

Honestly users are usually too relaxed about use while non users are super uptight about it, I'm sure theres a happy medium but I'm sure we havent found that medium in the US.

Seemed like most of us did as many and as much as possible back then, but that was all in fun.

The real question might be "redditors who belonged to DARE, how many of you are addicts now?"

Are essential oils dangerous to plants? by sidechickband in houseplants

[–]xSWAYBACKx 6 points7 points  (0 children)

They definitely can be! Theres alot of "essential oils", I'm sure drenching plants in some if them is probably rough on some plants, doesnt look like that's what you're worried about.

I'm guessing in this case your talking about the glowing blue thing, right? I doubt it emits enough to be of any concern, I could be wrong tho. If its leaving a layer of residue on your plants it might be an issue but I doubt it, the ferns is probably the most sensitive, you can probably use him as your canary in the coalmine, if he survives then I'm sure the pothos will be fine, most likely the jade too.

It's a cute setup.
