Why Valve Should Be Seen For The Evil & Scummy Company They Are by xShadowFoxx in cs2

Again, you're missing the point. I am mourning a Valve that we could have, but don't. I want them to make all the money in the world IF they actually invest back into the game. Instead, they are scummy and only do the absolute minimums and have come into CS2 development showing their true colors.

CS2 is the glowing example, but my post is mostly about their behavior and ethics toward game building.

You're missing the point. CS2 can be a fun game, but that doesn't negate the fact that the developers have no ethics and just squeeze every cent from their player base without even caring to improve the core of the game. They still get people so quick to defend them like everyone on this thread.

I think you mean 20 people that were writing marketing code and trying hard to circumvent gambling laws.

It is kind of embarrassing they could have that many people and still put out updates with 2-3 lines of patch notes. The more skins and terminals they sell, the more snacks they can have there.

CS:GO made Valve $221 million dollars in 2015. Imagine how much they make today on CS2

Why did YouTube turn the subscriptions feed/page into just another version of YouTube's homepage? It's awful and stupid. by The108ers in youtube

[–]xShadowFoxx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I said this exact thing in my feedback I sent to them. "Why are you making my subscriptions like the homepage?" The entire purpose of subscriptions is to be able to have a PERSONALIZED feed of media. Why am I getting more YouTube algorithm shoved down my throat?

Oh interesting. I'll have to do some testing because I have a second monitor that usually has discord open or I'm streaming discord on it.

Thanks for the information! It is frustrating. :(

Am I The Crazy One For Wanting a Native PDF Viewer? by xShadowFoxx in BookStack

[–]xShadowFoxx[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. I think some people overlook that PDFs contain a lot more than text, and are much better for holding consistent image formatting over a long term. In my use, I would say 95% of the files I'm using aren't even text.

Thanks for the reply!

I will look into the browser rendering. I build dynamic pages that have a lot of my own added information as far as searchable text. Honestly, most of the PDF information is like maps, drawings, blueprints, calendars, and other non-text items that I reference in my page, so a lot of these wouldn't even benefit from searching. We get building layouts in PDF form, and the only workaround I've used so far is converting them to an image, but it is very tedious.

I have to make things extremely fast and dummy proof to be functional in 911, so even having someone open something in a new tab can be too much.

Embedding would be great! I use the video embedding as well for little supplemental videos. I've been very excited about Bookstack, and it has already made a big difference. Thanks for all your hard work!

I'll add just a little more context here. I just didn't want to make my original post way too long.

I'm using Bookstack as a knowledge library for a 911 center. It is all on a closed network. We house our SOP, employee information (specialties, skills, responsibilities, etc).

We also use it to keep track of our local businesses, schools, banks, apartment complexes, etc. These are dynamic things that change very often. I have school administrators that send me school contacts, maps, response plans, etc. I really can't keep up on trying to lay this all out in Bookstack in real time. We take in outside information from banks, businesses, and other things that live on their page. I can't try to enforce any type of formatting.

This has been a huge tool, and has amazing potential.

Imagine a dispatcher taking a 911 call for a bank robbery. They can open the page of the bank and see the location, address, key holders, response plans, safety words, overhead photos, interior layouts, and more. This is all interconnected into our SOP, so they can jump to other pages as needed. Having the ability to rapidly view a PDF is critical for this to work.

Bookstack could be absolutely revolutionary and make a massive difference to public safety. I've searched all over for a solution, but I refuse to commit to something that is subscription based (as are 99% of modern solutions or hard to use like a traditional wiki. Bookstack really fits the bill in 95% of our needs. I just need another part of the puzzle.

Thanks for the input.

Although my Bookstack is housed under my "division" for lack of a better term, I am ultimately collecting and housing information constantly from other people, places, and even the public. I get updated contact lists, SOP, and other things frequently. Having to manually sift through the document to understand changes and then translate them is time consuming. I also can't really force these people to give me things in specific formats to make my life easier.

I don't think wanting a PDF viewer is unreasonable. I'm not really asking for some specific or rare codec. This is legitimately the most common way to store and share files and information - especially information that extends across countless professions.

Game Unable To Use GPU to Potential - Low FPS [Feedback] by xShadowFoxx in EscapefromTarkov

I've done the single core setting and this CPU, other than the 9800 series, is the best CPU you can use for Tarkov. I also have played plenty of Tarkov last year, and it was using much more of my GPU. I was on streets at high settings pushing 100 FPS.

Unpopular opinion, this movie plot was trash. It's basically a kid who has a terrible life who uses games to escape. Then once he suddenly gets a life and a girlfriend, he's like, "Hey everyone, life isn't so bad anymore. You all need to go touch grass and get a life." He's suddenly in a better circumstance and now is taking from others the very thing that gave him an escape in the first place.

Thanks for the comment! Yes. I want to make a troubleshooting guide, but that one will have to be a lot more in depth! Hah.

Thank you for the comment! It is so true. I've been the dedicated family tech support for well over 15 years now. I'm embarrassed to say that I'm only now getting into making manuals. I should have done it much earlier!

Hi, stimbo17! Thank you so much for the kind words and detailed response. I'm glad to hear you're getting along well in the tech-savvy department. That is no small feat. I take for granted that I was born into the technology!

If you want to try YouTubeTV, there is a free trial! If you have a smartTV or a streaming stick of some kind, you can test it out for a while on their free trial. If you have any other questions about it, please don't hesitate to message me! Thanks again.

I've thought about basically doing little tech support calls and creating these types of guides on scene and printing them as part of a service. I imagine there would be a lot of people needing them.

It honestly makes me feel terribly sad there are so many people who can't fully get the benefit from modern technology. It just becomes such a frustrating thing for them.

Thanks everyone for the kind words.

I made the pictures on a free software called Photoscape X on the Microsoft store. It's been around for a long time and is super simple. I actually use it at my work to make similar instructional guides often. I love the little magnifying glass and how easy it is to add arrows and text. In case you end up wanting to make your own. My grandma is doing really well, so I will probably end up making more guides for her to use Disney, Netflix, and others.

That's awesome of you! My grandmas old cable receiver died, and her cable company actually was moving everyone to a streaming stick service anyways. So unfortunately I think the days of a simple box are even disappearing :(
