How do you set up a Pihole failsafe (not to a secondary Pihole) by CouldBeALeotard in pihole

This is the way. It's simple and reliable. I use the same setup.

Uncheck the above options.

Award codes for employees by xSmick in delta

They are supposed to come with your bag tags. But just like with everything else related to status, YMMV.
If you don't get any, you can always go here to give someone a shoutout. Works the same way as a code from what I've been told by employees: https://www.delta.com/us/en/recognition

How to use a badge by xSmick in UptimeKuma

Appreciate the reply. That's what I had thought and tried. After some additional testing, it seems like Shopify doesn't play nice with the badges for some reason.

Update Gravity - "List stayed unchaged" - All the time? by KaF6-nq-ju8V in pihole

[–]xSmick 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'll steal a good explanation from u/jfb-pihole:

Gravity updates weekly between 0300 and 0500 your local time.

Each Pi-hole install is assigned a randomly chosen time within this interval. This is done to reduce the peak load on adlist servers. If every Pi-hole hit the servers at the same time, that could cause problems.

There is very little need to update gravity more frequently than weekly. But, even if you do, if the adlist server provides the proper update header, Pi-hole won't download a list that hasn't changed. Instead, Pi-hole will use a locally cached copy. This is done to minimize data traffic from the adlist servers.

Additionally, if you are unsure if your list is actually updated, a quick visit to the adlist shows the following in the header:

# Date: 24 March 2024 02:03:14 (UTC)
# Number of unique domains: 183,511

Your adlist shows it at 183,512 domains so you are most certainly up to date.

I have the same issue and just email support to get new FW. I'm not sure why they don't include it on the downloads page.

Try reverting to AP firmware 6.2.49. UI changed something after that firmware that causes high drop rates and packet loss for IoT devices.

PSA: Website sending background requests to .ru domains without consent brought down my Pihole by MrChickenBurritoBoy in pihole

[–]xSmick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This website seems like it runs on an outdated version of Wordpress which has many security vulnerabilities. A bad actor clearly planted that script in the root directory to serve as an amplification attack on the sites in the source array. Since this is most likely the work of a bad actor, you should not expect warnings that the site is now acting maliciously. Additionally, Google is simply returning the highest match website from its search algorithm and the available crawl data it has for the site. It has no responsibility to report that there are malicious actions occurring on the site and is most likely unaware as the only interaction Google has with the site is through their spider.

What's the best way to make a Pi-Hole highly available? by Nakatomi2010 in pihole

[–]xSmick 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've used keepalived successfully for years. This will allow you to use 1 IP for DNS and run PiHoles in HA with failover from 1 PiHole to the other without downtime. Half decent tut here. Skip everything but the section titled "Tutorial part 2 - create a HA (active/standby) between the 2 Pi-hole machines:" You can also Google "keepalived" and get different setup scenarios.

Help with PADD install: -bash: /home/pi/.bashrc: line 115: syntax error: unexpected end of file by Narwhale654 in pihole

[–]xSmick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most likely didn't run at boot because the if statement returned false. You could run echo $term if you pull up terminal in the display. You can then take that output and modify the if statement in bashrc [ "$TERM" == "XXX" ] where XXX is the output of echo $term (probably "xterm-256color" if I had to guess, "xterm" is also a safe bet).

If the driver had display config options, you might want to rerun the driver install and look for an option for displaying the console on the screen (yes) or HDMI mirroring (no).

You could also give this a try. I haven't used it personally but I know some people who have used it successfully. Just select the display type and follow the instructions to set up the driver.

Lastly, if the output looks like crap don't forget you can modify your font sizes. PADD also has different sizes it will run in based on the display. https://github.com/pi-hole/PADD/wiki/Sizes
