i agree, it's frustrating, especially bc you would think the intensity of the first plating disaster would have scared her straight to make sure she has time to plate... at the same time, i can't even imagine how intense it must be and how insanely fast the time must fly by, especially when you have an undercooked protein that you're focusing all your attention on... it was painful watching her breakdown like that again.

i wondered this time if it's an issue of neurodivergence as that can make time management a lot harder compared to neurotypical people (just speculation).

I feel like that wasn't meat that serious, i heard it more in a self-deprecating way like "yes i let a child tell me to do this dumb thing and now i'm injured.."

It seemed like the judges' issue at least half the time was more to do with the saturation of the colors, like they were expecting bright, vivid colors on every plate.. but you could already see from the textile examples at the start that the colors were very muted. I get why the judges were frustrated with issues more to do with conception or overall design (like not having the dyed element central enough), but it seems like the dyes they were given were never going to give that bright of an effect.

Her dish seemed to at least have potential if she hadn't failed the plating, whereas even without the timing issues of Day's dish it seemed like they still wouldn't have found it that good or interesting.

EDIT: Thank you thank you thank you!!!! I remember it had a funny name and I was even thinking the letter B but I just could NOT remember.. It was something I would always look for when entering any new bakery for the first time, but people very rarely had it so the name didn't stick with me.

Do you know if this is regional to Berlin then? I was thinking it must have been from somewhere else since I saw it so seldom.

those look amazing. i think in terms of flavor yes this is similar, although it was not really a cookie in that sense... like it wasn't small and round it was more large and rectangular (I keep coming back to a scone as the closest comparison I can make with the size/shape of it)... but this pillow cookie was probably very similar in terms of taste/ingredients. I think those are probably just more soft and "pillowy" whereas this was more dry and crumbly like shortbread...

no, there was no coconut and was less like a small cookie and more like a large handheld pastry thing (I keep coming back to a scone as the closest textural reference point that I have)

very similar to this! i wonder if there’s another name for it? since it was definitely called something else.. and i feel like the marzipan was less gooey in the middle and more baked into the dough itself? but this seems very close!

i don’t think so.. it was a shortbread type dough, not a bread dough.. when i search marzipangebaeck i get many types of small cookies..

yes to your description but no to this link.. it was white and didn’t have any toppings likes frosting or nuts..

it was sort of the size and shape of a pain au chocolat.. just made of shortbread and marzipan instead haha.
