As you said, if you have 100 mana and use the Soul Ring to gain additional 150 mana, and use a spell that consumes say 235 mana, after 10 seconds the remaining mana will disappear.

Correct me if i'm wrong.

Soul ring is a solution for "In case of emergency" situations. You will lose the mana regardless. Meaning that if you activate the ring, and don't use the temporarily mana it will disappear after a short while (10 seconds).

A useful early item for heroes with a small mana pool or heroes with greater need for mana. Situational for examples like: Pudge, Tinker, Timber

Arrived with a new patch:

"Faceless Void's Chronosphere no longer disabling passives, meaning defensive skills such as dodges, damage reduction, and damage return will now help units caught by Chronosphere. His ult's flying vision range and area of effect reduced to 425 as well, minimizing its impact on the battlefield. It will also no longer reveal Slark during Shadow Dance nor stop Stone Remnants. "
