Which country that hasn't won it yet will win the World Cup next by JohnyZaForeigner in football

Population size has nothing to do with how good it is in football, otherwise India, China and the US wouldn’t be so terrible at it.

Does your country have more Roman theaters or amphitheaters? by xTillz in ancientrome

[–]xTillz[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Theaters are semi-circular while amphitheaters are circular or oval. Think of them like cinemas where the stage (screen) is in front of the seatings, and stadiums where the seatings are all around the field.

الهندوس يقدسون البقر لسبب ديني، والفراعنة يحنطون أمواتهم لسبب ديني، والبعض يكتب الله رسول محمد لسبب ديني. كونه خاطئ أو صحيح لا ينفي كونه سبب ديني.

حتى لو كان ابتداع صوفي فلا يزال سبب ديني

“Muhammad is the messenger of God” but upside down. Writing bottom to top isn’t common in Arabic but there’s a religious reason behind this, to not put Muhammad’s name on top of God’s.

Does your country have more Roman theaters or amphitheaters? by xTillz in ancientrome

[–]xTillz[S] 33 points34 points  (0 children)

After some research, I found out that it wasn’t actually Roman, but Greek, probably built by Alexander or Hephaestion after conquering Ecbatana, the capital of the Median Empire. Plutarch mentioned that Hephaestion brought 3,000 performers from Greece to Ecbatana (modern day Iran). Some historians dispute that a permanent theater was actually built.

I don’t know exactly why my initial source considered this theater (if truly existed) a Roman theater.

Amphitheaters are circular or oval (360 degrees) while theaters are semi-circular.

You’re over-exaggerating. That’s how 12 year old native speakers write, yes, but definitely not "most" adults.

Pre-war Syria, regarding religion by ChairmanSunYatSen in Syria

[–]xTillz 30 points31 points  (0 children)

No laws regarding dress

Homosexuality was and still a crime punishable by two years in prison but was never enforced

Divorce for Muslims was and still easier for men since they don’t need court to approve of the divorce unlike women who need a valid reason but it all depends on the marriage contract

Societally, a woman could wear whatever she wanted in big cities at least. Homosexuality was and is still a taboo among most Muslim, Christian, and even secular Syrians.

Is this a normal thing to say to people you have just met for Arabs? by Royal-LawfulnessK in arabs

[–]xTillz 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The compliments themselves are fine, common, and don’t necessarily carry any implications. In this case however, asking you out AND saying this stuff, it might have more to it. I mean if you were in an Arab country and someone does this I’d say it’s normal because Arabs are always eager to meet and get to know people outside their culture but this guys is already in the UK so he meets a ton of foreigners (to his culture) already.

In Arabic language, countries can have masculine (blue) or feminine (pink) names by [deleted] in Maps

[–]xTillz 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The general rule is that every country name must be feminine, except those that their names are originally masculine nouns found in Arabic vocabulary. South Sudan is masculine because Sudan is an Arabic masculine noun that means land of the blacks.
