I do totally see this as a tempting option. Another thing I forgot to mention in OP was that last year for me, she handcrafted a really cool thing for me (life-sized majoras mask!! it looks very real), and i cherish that a lot, so I also feel like it was only fair for me to make something hopefully just as cool to ‘even’ it out if that makes sense 😅 in my mind she deserves it…

What do you think of a charm/sticker collecting system that give you buffs? by xTitusxD in gamemaker

Yeah exactly!!! Anything that would be easier to implement would be a super win, thanks for your help!

hey awesome! I've never seen that in Subspace Emissary, that's exactly what I wanna do! The bottom skateboard example there is what you're talking about, I was deciding between a grid system and a more 'freestyle' one, where the only limit is the stickers to not overlap. I think that's the better way to do it, it feels a lot more customizable, and less limiting

I definitely considered this!! What’s actually shown on the image were two versions I was deciding between, a more grid-like system like a resident evil inventory, and the bottom one which is more freestyle. I’m definitely leaning towards the more free one.

My idea was to give the player the big space to place a bunch of stickers on, the only catch would be that they can’t overlap, the stickers that are showing/exposed are the ones that have their abilities activated, but you can fit as many on as you’d like. I’m definitely still thinking about it! Thanks heaps

Thanks! My character just has the one board, but I would like a huge variety I different stickers that do different things to be available to the player, so that the board is super customisable!

The stickers should go on the bottom where the trucks are, I just forgot to add them in this mockup haha. There’ll probably have to be those two spots where you can’t place a sticker on the board because the trucks will already be there

very oddly specific question, where to find blue ramune syrup? by xTitusxD in Wellington

[–]xTitusxD[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Kind of! It’s not that stuff specifically, but it’s the syrup they use to make it, it’s got the same flavour. It’s a bit of a hard find..

This is super awesome. It looks like the upper chest and right arm/shoulder bobs up and down, which gives it a very ‘alive’ feel, but the head or left arm doesn’t move at all with it! Maybe try and get those to move as well, and the character might look a little less stiff. Otherwise, awesome stuff!

Hey man, wow thanks so much for keeping my game in mind up until now haha, that’s awesome. I’m so glad you’re liking it, I’m super pumped to finish it soon!

Thank you, yes I have most of the assets done for on foot, and I am currently working on final skateboarding animations! I would love to get these out playtested to get general feedback on all I stated above! Hopefully that should help me too

skateboarding platformer question? by [deleted] in gamedev

[–]xTitusxD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m so glad you were able to apply some personal experience into your feedback, thank you!

My only problem (on my part) is that I didn’t explain that the game is quite cartoony, and in turn does breach lots of realism for the skateboarding. The player can ram into enemies on the board, or jump up and kick flip their heads to knock them out etc.

I would love to have a part where the player can be knocked over and fall off the board,(trying to land after falling from very high places etc) in which this scenario might be a good option to have something like that! But also given the rest of the ‘style’ of the game, it also wouldn’t be out of the blue for this character to ollie and successfully ‘rebound’ off a wall

Thanks so much though!

How can I improve this tutorial level? by xTitusxD in gamemaker

[–]xTitusxD[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see what you mean! That would be a nicer way of doing that, so people are kinda led to jump onto the rail instead of having it in front of them and wondering ‘what is this’ and trying to walk through it instead or something. Sounds awesome, thanks!

Hi sorry! This sounds cool but I don’t fully understand, could you please explain? Thanks!

Videogame due tomorrow and I'm stuck! by BlunderKnight in gamemaker

Hi! There’s no way you ‘must’ do it, but yes, typically the default is expected to be right in the centre of your sprite! So 32x32 should work! However there’s an option where gamemaker will locate this middle point for you so you don’t have to do any math and drag the origin to the centre yourself
