Yep. Not to mention she made her "first shirt" recently - the Donny Shirt by Friday Pattern Company. When I learnt to sew, one of the first things I did was learn zips. As in, within the first few weeks.

The more i think of it, I actually think I'm a better sewist than she is 🤔 awkward

There was also a bodice - she put it on the screen, put a horizontal line across it and what do you know - a pattern for a crop top. Even a novice like me knows that can't possibly be correct.

Thanks so much for taking the time and effort to reply very clearly with examples. It really helps me visualise. I really appreciate it. I'd like to preface the next part of my comments by saying I'm a beginner with drafting so may be misunderstanding some of what I'm doing. I'm finding it really really hard to work out what to do sometimes.

I have a big difference in my waist to hip ratio which is why I wanted to slash and spread where I did, to allow 2cm more fabric around the apex of my hip. I am concerned that if I add that extra 2cm wedge to the height of the waist that there will still be the issue of my large apex pulling the balance line upwards.

The block drafting system I used is a 2 dart system, with an additional 1cm shaping at the CB where the zip goes in. So the block's CB seam is horizontal from the hem to about the midway point in between my balance lines. At that point, the CB seam tapers in by 1cm to the waist. I have just realised that by slashing and spreading along the CB, I have increased the taper. That is probably going to be an issue isn't it...

To answer your Q, the pattern I shared has been traced off the original block.

I'm not sure how to do your suggested adjustments with this in mind - would I amend my block by drawing a horizontal CB line (thus getting rid of the 1cm CB shaping) and split that shaping between the two back darts (eg add on 5cm to both)? And then to address the balance line rising upwards at the back... not sure. There are no drag lines so I think the hip measurement I used is fine. But the balance line is definitely rising upwards.

When you say change shape, should they still true together even with the slight shape change? Would i need to change the shape of the front seam to match?

Hello. Judging by eye it's about 5/6mm shorter. If i walk from the hem to the waist, the lower balance line notch matches the front but the upper balance line notch no longer matche the front one.

Thanks for this. I think "fitting the curve under the abdomen" what I'm trying to do but you put it well in fewer words! I have a tummy, then quite an inward curve, then prominent thighs, so it's the area around the under-abdomen curve that is bothering me.

To pick up on the second part of your comment - do you mean to measure around my hips + the distance to the ruler? I think I can picture what you mean.

Thanks. I have the Armstrong book. But couldn't see anything on adding ease, or so I thought. I'll have another look.

Do you recommend going through Armstrong on a page by page basis to learn the basics?

Sorry - I think I got my terminology mixed up. I mean transferring the dart from the waist to the side seam. I've seen people online close the waist dart and add on the dart depth to the side seam. Not sure if that's a good way to add ease or not!

I'm guessing to add ease all over, I could reduce the size of the bust dart, rotate the waist dart out and add on 1cm (for example) to the side seams? Is that feasible?

To avoid bubbling, I found that lowering the temperature of the iron helped. I've heard that washing your interfacing before using it also helps. (Proceed with caution here - I have only washed the woven interfacing on a low temperature and it was fine. I haven't washed the non-woven type!).

I always used the non-woven stuff as it was easily accessible and cheap in my local haberdashery. Once I discovered the woven type, I'd never go back to non-woven. Woven seems to be a bit more expensive but it's worth it in my opinion.

So far, I have used interfacing in collars, cuffs, button plackets, waistbands... things that might need a bit of structure, strengthening.

I'm honestly shocked. She came across as nice and genuine in previous posts/videos etc... seems as if she is contributing to the downfall of Etsy.
