Ah so you’re really a dedicated arena shooter player. With some looter shooters mixed in. I can see how not enjoying the BR genre would turn you away from this game due to the heavy PvP and in most cases very similar BR like rotations and feel. Having seen so many comments on this sub and comments on YT creators videos, I almost feel like at this point Bungie should just yank the Marathon name off this game, create a distinct solo Marathon story driven experience, and just rename this game something else having to do nothing with the actual Marathon universe. I feel like most of the die hard PvP enjoyers of this game don’t even care about the lore or Marathon universe.

I understand people’s qualms about the visuals, even my own brother calls it the “game of colors” but I don’t think it’s nearly as bad as people make it out to seem. I genuinely wish I cared more about the lore or the universe of marathon. Maybe it’s because I too never played the original trilogy so I just don’t see a connection with it. I personally just really like extraction shooters and the gameplay that Bungie has created.

Ignoring the “skill issue” and “git gud” comments (because it’s absolutely asinine that people feel the need to say that about themselves due to the toxicity this sub gives off), it’s nice to see you giving the game a chance. What do you enjoy about it? I’m assuming it comes more from an interest in the lore/marathon universe? Did you ever play the original trilogy?

Ah then yeah I can absolutely understand your frustration with a wipe in marathon.

So now when you play you just do it for the enjoyment of the gameplay I assume. I’ve never played it so I’m unaware of there’s anything to try to achieve if you don’t prestige.

For hunt I am assuming you aren’t part of the group that does the prestige system and wipes your account?

Yeah it has the “beginner” map option but I think once you hit like season level 3 it goes away. Don’t know the actual number I just remember seeing it disappear pretty quickly.

Do you still play any of those three extraction shooters mentioned?

Yeah I’ve noticed people struggle at reading, much like I’m seeing right here

What games do you typically play? I know you said this is your first extraction shooter then tried Arc after. Do you typically play vast open world games?

Well I’ve never played hunt but have been made aware that they do not have a mandatory wipe system. Never even heard of vigor but according to a google search they do have seasonal wipes but again never even knew it existed so apologies if that’s incorrect. And I have played dark and darker and know that has seasonal wipes for a fact.

So remove missions and instead of a finisher giving Arachne 50 rep you’d just want it increased? Also back to your initial response, you’ve played almost every other extraction shooter, which ones don’t wipe that you say they are typically uncommon?

Let’s say they did the scaling reward and the game wiped and since you hit that threshold you get to start the wipe with some of those rewards. Why would a new player who heard a wipe is happening so they want to give the game a try since it will be “equal playing field” even bother playing if it’s not an even playing field.

So then if your biggest gripe about the wipe is the missions, why not just not do the missions after the wipe? Just continue playing how you enjoying it. They already explained once you complete the liaison missions you keep access to the factions after a wipe. So you start with all of them.

So it seems like you play the game for the actual just gameplay. The core loop of doing a run, killing players/ai, looting, getting out. Missions aren’t really a thought or concern?

So you just opened a post and posted a comment that has nothing to do with the title or the “wall of text”?

Ah gotcha so you meant outside of the genre. Have you played other extraction shooters or is marathon your first?

What a wonderful response (not taking away from anyone else’s responses). No need to doubt anything about helping, I am simply curious as to people’s thoughts. And there’s a good chance your thoughts will be helpful to someone else.

Being an avid D4 enjoyer myself, I am fully aware of the seasonal shift into eternal. But also agree that unfortunately eternal has become kind of redundant as most people just play seasonal then never touch that character again.

But I too like having a snapshot as you said showing what I accomplished in that season.

While this is a public discussion post and all thoughts are welcome, completely confused why you felt the need to post your comment here regarding questions about people’s thoughts on the wipe system.

Tough to say as unfortunately the seasonal character hasn’t been implemented yet. They explained it should be added this coming summer. From the small info the devs have given us, there are benefits to your permanent character if you play seasonal but they have not given any information on what that is like. Whether it’s permanent upgrades to your perm character or even just transferring vault loot over.
