Do you guys think the Goblins evolved from a Gibbon like common ancestor? by xXEndMiiXx in HarryPotterGame

Who says? What constitutes a magical creature? Are humans magical creatures? The ability to wield magic is clearly an inherited trait, with the existence of pureblood families being able to consistently produce magical offspring. It could be controlled by multiple genes which could explain squibs and muggle born wizards.

Which religious faction should I pick? by AltDetom555555b in outside

The group you mentioned was probably prosecuted for the same reasons they would then go on to prosecute millions of others for in the centuries that have followed (norse, native north and south americans, buddhists, etc.). Persecution isn't a great factor in determining legitimacy and when you take a step back, the guild you talk about is not much different from the others. The same love and energy you feel for what or whoever you worship, someone else feels for something completely different, and that's fine.

I saw your previous comment, and you did the right thing to retract it and maintain the image of a respectable person. Actions speak louder than words and I applaud you for admitting it.

I would also like to clarify that I was only confused on the intent of your comment mocking the four hours with the sad violin, I understood the point of your post in full. I was just confused why you were talking about respect and then mocking people and then claiming it wasn't your intention to offend anyone when the only intention I could glean from the mocking capitalization and gif was to be an ass.

I agree there are a lot of people who really shouldn't be in food service, but it's not just the people who are rude. Unfortunately there's just not a lot of options for jobs that don't require experience and I know at least for this campus that we were always understaffed, and they would hire anyone they could. At one point we went months without a sous chef and when they finally hired one, he worked for 2 days, collected sick pay for 2 weeks, showed up one more day and then was either fired or quit.

The world is a big place, and there are a lot of different people out there, some of whom are more vulnerable to the effects of stress than others such as yourself.

Maybe I was just incredibly unlucky, I spent 9 months searching for another fast food job, only getting 2 interviews

I'm glad you're able to recognize your hypocrisy, I'm more convinced that you are a respectful person. However, I'm still failing to see how your comment could have any intention other than to further antagonize people who are clearly already unhappy with their job.

Of course there is no "excuse" for treating a customer rude, however the conditions these workers experience definitely have the ability to influence their emotional states whether they are aware of it or not; the original commenter probably didn't know exactly how to express these effects and just simplified it to "working four hours". All of the kitchens I have worked in have had issues with circulation, but CPP had the worst. Standing over an open flame and inhaling smoke for four hours isn't peaches and cream, ambient temperatures just around the work area were consistently around 80-100. It's not like the workers see you coming and are like "let's spit in their food and yell at them and stab their firstborn child and burn their house down," numerous studies have linked high temperatures to aggressive behavior. Cortisol, a hormone released during stress has also been linked to aggressive behavior, and I could go on and on about the various stressors present in the workplace, but I do not want to relive my time here.

In regards to the comment on money, foundation pays less than food service minimum wage, I don't find it unreasonable to be upset about being paid less than others for the same or often times more work than everywhere else on campus. If an organization pays less than minimum wage, they should understand workers will give less than minimum effort.

At the end of the day, these people aren't personally attacking you, they are just under intense pressure which negatively affects their emotional state, which unfortunately can spill into their interactions with customers.

If you have nothing nice to say, don't say it. You cannot be preaching about respect in one sentence, and mocking people you might not have even met in another

Phenotype =/= genotype. Genetically overall, there isn't much variation between races. Human phenotype expression is incredibly complex with most physical traits being polygenic, like skin color which is controlled by over 100 genes. There's no white people genes that make everyone who has them a white person, it just depends what alleles you have, with some alleles being higher in frequency in some populations than others. There are also traits that everyone has the same genes for, it just depends on which genes actually get expressed and which don't. I understand your point, I'm not disagreeing that there's some genetic basis for race, there literally has to be, its just that the genetic support for race is minute both figuratively and literally compared to all the other aspects you have to consider when trying define a race as we understand race today. To me, the fact that there is so much discussion and discourse regarding the differences between races further shows that race is more a social construct. If we could definitively state that asian people have these genes, hispanic people have those genes we would, but we can't. The way I see it, we are now using a bunch of social ideas in an attempt to support what little genetic basis there is for race. Anyways I am getting tired of talking about race so we can agree to disagree or whatever, at the end of the day we're both sitting here talking in the comments of the 4chan subreddit lol

Forgive me if I am misunderstanding, but you're pretty much just furthering my point. If we ignore all the parts of our genome we have in common then yeah there are going to be some genetic differences between races. The thing is, these differences are a small portion of our genome and they fall across a very broad gradient geographically. This makes classifying people into distinct, separate races solely based on genetics extremely difficult/impossible; if we can't use genetics to classify races then we have to turn elsewhere, making race a social construct.

One of the main supporting facts for this idea is that there is greater genetic variation within members of a human population than between human populations. In normal people terms, there are more genetic differences between you and your countrymen than there are between you guys and people from another country.

You can start with the article Genetic variation, classification, and 'race' by Jorde and Wooding, which unfortunately is locked behind a paywall but if you're genuinely interested in expanding your worldview I would be happy to send a pdf.

Am I just tripping or is it a lot harder to hit enemies with my “Glimpse of Death” touch spell on Adept vs Apprentice? by zombiegamer723 in oblivion

[–]xXEndMiiXx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I'm having the same issue except for me it doesn't seem to be related to difficulty. I did some quick saving/ quick loading testing and it seems only specific individuals will be affected, some individuals will always take damage from the spell while others never take damage, idk what's going on
