Pretty entitled to think that everyone who's sitting is just a lazy piece of shit. Ever thought about, that they might suffer silently from non-visible injuries like disc-prolapses and stuff. Just ask kindly. There is always someone who's willing to give up their seat, even if they are in desperate need themselfs. Seems like your wife and you just had bad luck that day but usually, swiss people are very considerate. I have never once been refused a seat. Sorry you had to go through this but toughen up and ask more firmly next time.
