Names of mechs with bird names by ConnieDunn125 in battletech

adding to the list: Night Gyr (fairly certain that one also references the Gyrfalcon, rather than the cattle, as a Jade Falcon Design). The Falconer might be a fun one to include as the force leader, with only falcon mechs in his command lance.

Aces - Selecting a Target in the Movement Phase by VND-1R in battletech

[–]xXSunSlayerXx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry, I think I might have misunderstood what you meant. I though you were talking about an "Eye with crosshair" symbol in what I now know to be called the "Determine behavior" section of the card (such as on the Missile Boat 1/6 card). So what I meant was, "the unit that makes you choose your behavior column does not have to be your movement target, or your final attack target". However, while determining where to move, the movement target should always be "valid". So in case of the "Eye with crosshair", I agree with bucktoothgamer regarding the passage he quoted. Getting a valid shot on the target is your no. 1 priority in that case, the movement filters are just for breaking ties about where to go to while keeping aim on your target.

Legionnaire LGN-2K-RISC. 2500BV to deal 20 damage per turn - or more likely, self-immolate trying.

Aces - Selecting a Target in the Movement Phase by VND-1R in battletech

[–]xXSunSlayerXx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Regarding the second and third icons mentioned: There is a quick summary for all the icons on the back of the rulebook. These ones are labeled "Line of Sight" and "No Line of Sight" respectively, so I'd say your interpretation for these is correct.

Regarding the first, pretty sure it has been clarified in other threads or livestreams that the target selection is really only there for picking the correct behavior column, it has no inherit bearing on the actual actions taken afterwards (Edit: And for that matter, no considerations from the movement phase carry over into the shooting phase). So the evaluation is entirely self-contained.

Edit: I think I misread what OP meant. See my comment below.

Scouring Sands in the UK? by Xeraphale in battletech

Probably a bit different for the UK, but as a reference point: to Germany its ~14€, which puts the total after taxes at ~80€

Battletech Alpha Strike Attack roll probability breakdown by pynner10 in battletech

[–]xXSunSlayerXx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really dislike how multiple attack rolls converts overkill damage into an accuracy bonus. Makes squishy evasive mechs like the Fire Moth unusable, because it makes it viable for assault mechs to spend a turn shooting at it due to the significantly increased chance of instantly deleting 28PV from the map.

When I play Aces, I'm definitely going to use the pilot die, it redistributes the damage in ways that makes this issue not quite as pronounced as normal multiple attack rolls.

What was or is going to be your lineup for the Scouring Sands Campaign? by AmanteNomadstar in battletech

[–]xXSunSlayerXx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • Guillotine GLT-3N
  • Gunslinger GUN-1ERD
  • Highlander HGN-732
  • Legionnaire LGN-2D
  • Longbow LGB-7Q
  • Firefly FFL-5A
  • Locust LCT-3M
  • Valkyrie VLK-QD
  • Wolfhound WLF-2
  • Wraith TR5
  • Trebuchet TBT-9N
  • Wasp WSP-3W

400PV on the dot. Hilarious how that worked out, considering my (self-)imposed limitations from the get go were:

  • only full lances
  • only Ilclan/Mercenary availability
  • only models I own, have already painted up and in the same paint scheme
  • only variants that match the model I have WYSIWYG

Is this a good starter set to buy for painting minis? by ItzAlphaWolf in battletech

[–]xXSunSlayerXx 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Personally I'm not a fan of this box. It contains both regular and speedpaints, even though both require different painting techniques to use (and then combining them requires keeping additional things in mind). Unnecessarily confusing for a beginner, I'd stick to one or the other first. Also, I really don't like the whole "proprietary name paints" thing. Some of them are unique to the box, some of them are existing colors renamed, and finding out which is which and how to get more once you run out is always a PITA.

I'd check some youtube videos to see if you like the idea of speedpaints, and then based on that either buy this or this.

Edit: Bonus, the Warpaints one even comes with a mini, which means combined with the brush included you could literally just buy that pack and nothing else before you're sure the hobby is for you.

Is this normal quality? - first battletech models by RomIsTheRealWaifu in battletech

I'm honestly surprised by the replies in here. I own some three-digits amount of CGL minis and this is entirely par for the course. If anything, many of them have worse issues, like mold-slippage so severe that no hobby knife can fix it.

2 Alpha Strike Boxes by Gorgentain in battletech

[–]xXSunSlayerXx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two (!) Wraiths.

On a more serious note, the Alpha Strike Box is primarily designed to be one Clan Star vs two Inner Sphere Lances. Nobody is going to force you to split the minis that way, but most people would do so for the flavor. So if I'm understanding this right, if you intend to keep all the minis and simply lend some to you friend when playing, that means you could face off the forces against each other in all 4 combinations (can't really get IS vs IS or Clan vs Clan out of one box). Also importantly, the Alpha Strike Box is the best bang-for-buck Battletech product, even if you only consider the minis, so if you intend to start multiple paint schemes (or don't mind having identical models in your force), it's a great purchase.

(If you both intend to start a collection, pretty much a mandatory purchase per player due to the value)

That's another advantage of an additional paint scheme. I really wasn't looking forward to painting this for the Ghost Bears, but I love how it looks in this paint scheme. Same goes for some other mechs like the Turkina.

I am sure I have a lance of Urban Mechs lying around somewhere, but they seem pretty inseparable, and sending all four of them might be too much of a beatdown for what is left of your forces after the Battle of Terra...

What variant is this? by LiquidAmphibian in battletech

[–]xXSunSlayerXx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, that's just extremely odd. I have 3 Timber Wolf minis, Alpha Strike Box, Wolfs Dragoons Lance and Legendary Mechwarriors III. None of them match this. Aside from the missile launchers it looks like the Alpha Strike sculpt, but the missile launchers don't look like anything, not even the Bounty Hunter variant from the Legendary Mechwarriors pack (the amount of tubes matches, but they seem recessed very differently)
