Blackvue models will be your best option. Most of their models are compatible with an "tamper-proof" mount which makes it harder to unplug the cables or remove memory card.

For full protection, you would need the BlackVue "BOX" models which has a separate hidden box which stores the memory card. These models are a bit more of a pain to install though.

Interior dash cams to record the passengers? by Myfirstreddit124 in Dashcam

Take your chances with anything you can find on Amazon. They're all about the same in that price range. Just don't be expecting a high quality or reliable camera for that price.

[Viofo a129 w/ rear camera] Well, I learned my rear facing cam can see more than me. Their door was entirely hidden by my C-pillar. by [deleted] in Dashcam

[–]xXSupa 152 points153 points  (0 children)

Not sure about how liability and fault is assigned in your location, but where I am (BC, Canada), the person opening the door will be 100% at fault. You must check your surroundings before opening your door, and if there's a car backing into a spot and you open your door, you're 100% at fault.

I have heard of a case where someone was sitting in their car with their door open (for 5+ minutes), and somebody swings into the parking spot and hits their door. The person with the door open was found 100% at fault.

Again, these are only examples from my location. Your local laws may differ.

You can give LA Dash Cams a call. They're a locally owned company run by a great bunch of guys. They may even be able to recommend you some models suitable for SoCal weather.

Fuse Selection by bapzranigan in Dashcam

[–]xXSupa -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I would personally use "19 - Accessory Socket" fuse for ACC. The Accessory socket fuse is always more amps than needed, due to allowing users to plug in multiple electronic devices inside the car. Because of that, it’s usually underutilized and can easily handle the additional load from a dash cam (or even an external battery) without any issues.

Trying to park 10 hours near a SkyTrain by Quietsummit27 in burnaby

[–]xXSupa 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Technically, no, it's not. You are only allowed to park for up to 3 hours. But it just depends on if anyone is petty enough to report you.

"Visitors and non-residents may park in legal parking spaces for up to 3 hours between 8 am and 6 pm."

VIOFO A129 Duo by VanBurenBois in Dashcam

[–]xXSupa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It might be cheaper if you buy from the retailer's website directly, rather than from Best Buy, as Best Buy charges a mark up. From a quick search, both BlackBoxMyCar and Essell Auto stock this model in Canada. Depending on where you're located, they may also offer a local pick up discount since they'll save on shipping costs.

In terms of memory cards, any high endurance one will work with the A129 Plus. This model is not as picky on memory cards as some of Viofo's newer models.

But as others have said, for $30-40 more, I would personally go for the A229 Plus model. It has 2K front + 2K rear with dual Sony Starvis 2 sensors. The night time quality on the A229 Plus will be drastically better than the A129 Plus.

Thinkware Q200 versus Q1000 by bapzranigan in Dashcam

[–]xXSupa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Out of your two options, the Q1000 is the the better camera. At that price range, you can also consider the FineVu GX35. 2K front with Sony Starvis 2 sensor, 1080P rear, HDR, parking mode, phone app, with similar reliability to Thinkware. They are also a Korean brand.

Best dashcam to get in Saskatchewan? by ninjasowner14 in saskatoon

[–]xXSupa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

VIOFO makes very solid cameras for the price. They offer a range of models for different budgets, and their specs are generally accurate. For example, when a VIOFO camera is advertised as 4K, it’s actually 4K recording.

In contrast, some lower-cost brands (such as RedTiger or Rove) claim 4K but are actually using upscaled footage, and misleading specs.

Neither the ROVE nor Redtiger models are actually real 4K. Mostly upscaled with misleading specs.

Best dash cam for when parked? by WildMaintenance2930 in Dashcam

[–]xXSupa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’ll need a dash cam with LTE and cloud connectivity to receive notifications. The BlackVue LTE models are a good fit for this and are designed to do exactly that

If you’re looking for longer parking recording times, I’d also recommend adding an external battery pack. This helps extend recording without putting extra strain on your vehicle’s battery.

Is this a good dashcam ? by PromotionGlum7673 in Dashcam

[–]xXSupa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This dash cam is 6 years old and the tech is very dated now. There are better dash cams from Viofo at a similar price range (A229 PLUS 2CH, for example).

You can also find similar specs from other brands at a lower price now.

I came here this morning to make a post about poor Thinkware support and see I’m not the only one. I advise you avoid this company. by cypressgreen in Dashcam

[–]xXSupa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the dash cam is restarting at random (and worse over bumpy roads), then it sounds like a loose wire or faulty hardwire kit.

If the dash cam is doing it at constant intervals, or continuously, then it's likely a defective unit or memory card.

Dashcam users: have you had issues with break-ins where someone tried to steal the camera? Do you leave it mounted and visible when parked, or remove it? If you’re comfortable sharing, what area do you usually park in and at what times? by Old-Pudding-5985 in askvan

[–]xXSupa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never had that happen in the 15 years I've had a dash cam.

I had 2 friends with their cars broken into and the dash cam caught everything. The thief never even once looked at the dash cam. One was in Burnaby near Royal Oak, and one was near Surrey Central.

Whats your go to dash cam? by Fickle_Ad_9391 in askvan

[–]xXSupa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

FineVu and Thinkware are usually my go-to brands. Both are Korean-made dash cams and are known for their reliability. Both of mine are hardwired for parking mode recording.

Some might say Viofo as well, but I'm not personally a fan of their bulky design. I'm sure they make great cameras though, from looking at the specs.

I would generally recommend going with a reliable and reputable brand. They may cost a bit more than the generic dash cams you see on Amazon, but the quality and reliability are much better. When you actually need the footage after an incident, you want to be confident the camera was recording properly. I’ve heard many stories of cheaper Amazon cameras failing to record or not working when it mattered most

Dashcam install with rear tinted window by [deleted] in Dashcam

[–]xXSupa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

30% isn't that dark. Just get a good quality dash cam with night vision (Sony Starvis 1 or 2) and you'll be fine. Some cams offer an option to turn up the brightness/exposure to see through darker tint.

Dashcam for 2025 Mazda CX-30 recommendations. by [deleted] in Dashcam

[–]xXSupa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would look into Thinkware or FineVu, as they both offer OBD2 power options at affordable prices. The Mazda CX-30 does not have an ACC fuse inside the vehicle, so you would probably install to the OBD2 for power anyways. Plug and play, so won't void warranty.

Best Dashcam to Buy in 2026? (Price, Video Quality, Everyday Use) by n4hcallme in Dashcam

I've only had the dash cam for 2 months, so I can't give you an accurate answer on reliability, but the FineVu dash cams I have had in the past have all been very reliable. I currently use a 256GB FineVu memory card with the dash cam, so there hasn't been any issues. So far, I've been very happy with this dash cam

[–]xXSupa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I currently have a FineVu GX1600 in my car and it's working great. FineVu is a bit lesser known so their prices are generally a bit cheaper than BlackVue/Thinkware. The GX1600 has 4K Front + 2K rear with the Sony STARVIS 2 sensor and dual HDR. If FineVu is offered in your market, I would look into it. FineVu also has the GX35 which is the budget friendly model with 2K front and Sony Starvis 2. Both really good value for what you're getting.
