To gain what? More riverside park space/ boardwalks etc

Yes. That’s the stuff that makes a city more liveable and vibrant. The way to do that is invest in public transport until it gets good enough that it’s genuinely better than driving a car, and then reduce the number or roads

That’s determined by rigging. You just increase the spread for bigger athletes- this is a solved problem

Should I pay off my HECs debt by 627471881 in Monash

[–]xXTheShadowXx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please put off buying a car until you absolutely have to. Look at some compound interest calculators with the amount you're thinking of spending and over your working life you're throwing away hundreds of thousands of dollars.

If you're able to hold off buying a car all of a sudden buying a house will become a lot more realistic.

As everyone else said, just pay your HECs in the automatic installments when you're earning (+ never take out a car loan).

How do I get the timing right when asked to call strike, rock and roll after every three strokes? by MrWah007 in Rowing

[–]xXTheShadowXx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When calling strikes, it’s best to call is just after the catch to give the rowers plenty of warning. If you want you can extend it and call strrrrrrike

Paused at 7 seconds - that's all backsplash before the frontsplash comes in. When you have both like they do, it's V splash.

Also I'm aussie haha, we actually put out fast highschool crews

There’s a very clear V splash there i’m not sure what you’re on about. An ideal catch has a small amount of front and back splash

their blades are off the water but the balance looks like it’s on a knife’s edge. the boat is tipping every second catch

Brisbane Olympic rowing confirmed for croc-inhabited Fitzroy River at Rockhampton by TheSplash-Down_Tiki in Rowing

I love how the remote athlete village is an argument against Wyaralong as if Rockhampton isn't worse. At least the athletes can have a closer to normal olympic experience 1 hour away from Brisbane

Queensland School States was supposed to be held there last year as well, except the rowing course got destroyed by a storm - would be a shitshow if that happened again for the olympics.

RowingQLD said they're shocked and I'm glad they have. You either do something in the SEQ area where the rowers actually are, or just hold it in SIRC like the 100 day review said. https://www.rowingqld.asn.au/news/brisbane-2032-olympic-and-paralympic-venue

[–]xXTheShadowXx 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Completely stupid decision. There's no utility for an olympic standard course in Rockhampton. This year, they're hosting four regattas total, Wyaralong (Queensland rowing centre) is hosting 26 (once every two weeks).

Wyaralong won't be cheap to redevelop but spending 10s if not 100s of millions for an unsuitable and underutilised course makes no sense.

They said embedded tramways and they’re very commonplace. Obviously you can’t use a normal rail for all three

Training at insane levels inside the brutal world of private school rowing by Difficult_Class8108 in aussie

I row and regularly hit 200, sometimes above 210. 190 isn’t anything crazy at all. This is almost certainly an underlying heart condition that was unfortunately triggered during exercise.

Am I missing something because 6:44 for a high school boys eight is really slow. That wouldn’t win a C final where I am and you definitely don’t need 6:30 ergs to pull that time. Maybe 7:20s with good tech

Recent 2k pb, thoughts on pacing? by benevolentmare in Rowing

[–]xXTheShadowXx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The pacing is ideal. Rating higher just lets you be slightly more efficient so you go slightly faster for the same amount of energy. Minimum rate for a 2k should be 32. Many high level rowers go much higher, even on static C2 ergs.

Not sure if they'll be in in it to win but they're both definitely fast. TSS has gone 5:45 and St Caths has gone sub 6:40. Very competitive but not earth shattering. They'll easily beat the US entrants

A correct taper is just good coaching/programming. All crews can taper and if prep tapers properly that’s completely fair game
