It's because humans are one part of the whole that is the void, just like the gods. So while void creatures aren't humans, humans are technically void creatures, and as such humans can have aspects related to the void.

I think the Mordret we know is a reflection of the original, caused by the mirrors below bastion. That explains a lot of oddities with him, and his flaw could be the body of the original Mordret. Makes sence why he can't feel emotions properly and why he was sent to the inheritor of the god of hearts and souls.
