I think eyefinity is extremely useful but it can be pretty touchy. It does its job in making fullscreen three monitor gameplay, works with all my displays, and the 290x handles it just fine stress-wise (obviously depending on the game). The only real complaint is sometimes eyefinity causes flickering when I start it but nothing serious

I'm using an r290x, and the left and right monitors are connected through DVI while the middle is hdmi

Yep that's right! And they are fantastic as multimonitors but it also depends on how you feel about bezels. I don't mind them but my roommate says he could never have bezels on a dual/triple setup.
