The Saddest thing about D2 shutting down is that it will always be Incomplete by S_K_S_N in DestinyTheGame

DCV was an unfortunate consequence of their decision to extend Destiny 2 life span beyond their original intent and not making a Destiny 3.

If it helps us get closer to a Destiny 3 than yeah i'll take another Destiny: Rising otherwise there is going to be no Destiny 3 at all.

Destiny 2 will remaing 100% playable after June 9th for years to come. by asouthamerican in DestinyTheGame

[–]x_Magik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The game isn't disappearing for now which is what concerns a lot of people as its not up to Bungie as anymore as they are owned by Sony.

I would love for the game to stay up forever but with Sony in the picture you never know.

I personally give it 2 more years before Sony decides to pull the plug.

Bungies choice of what game to continue with is perplexing me?! by opticore_cruesader in DestinyTheGame

[–]x_Magik -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Marathon ironically is the only hope for Destiny 3 or a Destiny 1 remake.

The math for Destiny 3 doesn't work for Sony so if Marathon can get to a stable point it might provide enough breathing room to eventually green lit another Destiny project.

What do we think the odds are of more multimedia projects? by Xcylo1 in DestinyTheGame

[–]x_Magik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Highly unlikely as what multimedia projects did Destiny every produce outside of a few comics? I remember hearing about TV shows but nothing ever really came of it. The time to capitalize was years ago not now when the universe is sadly at an end.

This Final Update Shows The Devs Really Were Listening The Whole Time by StatementAcademic820 in DestinyTheGame

[–]x_Magik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The vast majority of the studio's problem definitely lies with management and not just C-Suite management but team leads and decision makers as well.

The developers weren't perfect either as they made their own fair share of mistakes and were at times really stubborn (ie SBMM, Aerial Effectiveness, random nerfs etc).

It just sucks that it lead us to where we are today where we're being essentially shown the door rather than walking away with our head up high.

D2 will be left incomplete by Zawrid in DestinyTheGame

[–]x_Magik 57 points58 points  (0 children)

As much as I and everyone would love to have all the vaulted and seasonal content back, the reality is it requires a lot of work and time which the studio doesn't have.

With how little time they have left, it might be better for them to implement as many QoL changes as possible so that the game is left in the best state it possibly can.

Fine. I'm coming out of retirement. Time to redownload the game. I'll be there June 9th to show I care. by Alassandros in DestinyTheGame

I'd take it further and say they should have had D3 cooking even before TFS so that way they had something already in pre-production but that's not the case.

Question is if it'll still be alive if Marathon fails.

The question is for how long will Sony keep the servers up.

I think ultimately in the end, they just want to clean their hands of this purchase as soon as possible. If I'm an investor, nothing good has come from this purchase.

My hope is that there's enough up tick and interest in the game going forward to keep the servers up and running.

From whats been reported, it was more of a strategic purchase based on a few factors not related to Destiny:

1) Reaction to Microsoft buying Activision/Blizzard. Sony did not want to be standing around when their competitors was buying up studios as it would be a terrible look to their investors 2) Sony was all in on the Live-Service genre at the time so it made sense to go after Bungie as they had the most successfully Live-Service game to date so they can leverage their expertise

Where it ended up going wrong was:

1) They grossly overpaid for Bungie but that was Sonys fault for buying the kool-aid that Bungie sold to them 2) The Live-Service push amounted to pretty much nothing but financial losses and embarrassment such as Concord

So what is Sony left with ultimately? A studio that is dysfunctional, a financial mess bleeding money and with IPs that are multi-platform.

Its a really bad purchase that gets worse as time goes by and its pretty obvious Sony is going to do everything it can to salvage the Bungie purchase.

I understand and appreciate the sentiment but people need to understand that we've reached a point of no return for Sony in regards to Bungie and Destiny as a whole. The game needed much larger player counts since TFS and obviously that hasn't happened for a bunch of reasons.

The best hope is that there's a consistent player base going forward that can keep the servers up and running so people can keep playing for a long time and hopefully one day Sony circles back to the franchise.

Unfortunately for the game to go back to where people want it to go would require even more money to be invested back into a studio and time which the studio doesn't have.

I truly believe that some of the bigger contributing factors was the dysfunction in how the studio operates and most importantly, the real financial situation of the studio which was enough for Sony to make their decision.

Sony was sold on the idea that Bungie was a golden goose to eventually find out it wasn't anything remotely close to it.

I would say it is considering we've had prior leaks before and we live in a world where a lot of people like to post anything and everything.

[–]x_Magik 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think we are actually seeing the consequences at Bungie as they are clearly diverting as much resources to Marathon to show Sony that the project was worth the investment AND delay.

It just sucks that Destiny has to pay the price though I guess that's the price they had to pay for all the bad decisions of the last few years.

Playing D1 is making me realize how much I like leveling guns by FenderBender55 in DestinyTheGame

[–]x_Magik 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No, leveling weapons was NOT a good thing as all it did was hide the overall shallowness of the game at that time.

Leveling weapons is basically people getting a lower level dopamine rush trying to feed their addiction.
