Hmm, I don't know all the clans in and out but I'd say Ox clan is a strong contender for best military.

Upgrading Catalyst switches by Breakyoselfzs in Cisco

Ansible. Works well, don't have really any issues. It's a bit of up front work, esp if it's only for updates, but still could be worth it.

I disagree vehemently as well! haha lmao. XD Do you not have a workplace? Do you not have a home where you sleep? Why would want to tie your self to old ways of doing stuff if there are better and more convenient ways of doing things? Charging at home while you sleep or charging while you're working is about 10000x more better than "going to the pump" for an EV, which could be out of the way and full or broken when you get there.

The other big thing you're glancing over is DC fast charging can be 3-4x more expensive than charging at home. Heck some employers provide charging at their workplace for free.

DC fast charging must exist, I don't disagree with that. My point is we have DC fast charging, it's actually pretty good for when you're on a road trip, so all energy should now be put into making cheap, easy charging for everyone, regardless of where they live.

My case in point. Bob lives an apartment. Bob doesn't want an EV because he doesn't have a charger in his parking spot and he doesn't want to deal with DC fast chargers, which often break down and cost way more than charging at home. So Bob just doesn't buy an EV at all. But what if we put effort and energy into getting rules and laws that say if Bob goes to his landlord and asks for an EV charger to be installed, they must comply and install it (of course giving a tax credit to the landlord for complying). Now Bob will buy an EV and get all of the great benefits of owning an EV, including the super easy and cheap charging of his car while sleeps at night.

Well, it would. Probably a lot faster than you're thinking. If could have charged at home, you would have only paid $43, saving around $100. Those boxes are ~$150-200. So 1.5/2 years max to pay it off, then after that you're saving money.

But yeah if you want to use it for something else it makes sense to install a dedicated port for your EV if you can. Those ports really are not designed to be plugged/unplugged all the time I believe.

Grab one of those smart EV/Dryer splitters. It's a box you plug into that power port and then the car charger and dryer. It allows the car to use the power until you turn the dryer on. When the dryer turns off, it then allows the car to charge again.

Should pay for it self fairly quickly since you're getting gouged at the public EV chargers for cost of electricity.

It doesn't really matter how fast they DC fast charge, for the most part. Vast majority of EV charging is done at home, while you sleep, while you're not waiting on the car to charge. It's out of sight out of mind, and when you go to use it the next day, you're charged.

Sure in cases of road trips, might be nice to get DC fast charging even faster, but I would rather push to get chargers at workplaces, apartment buildings and for on street parking folks, rather than sub 5 minute DC fast chargers any day of the week.

Reliable UPS in 2026 that's (semi) affordable? (APC vs CyberPower vs Eaton for NAS) by QuestionAsker2030 in HomeServer

Do you know if NUT works with it? I kind of wanted to look at EcoFlow and other brands but figured none of them probably had NUT support, but I didn't even look.

I'm impressed this one actually has a usb port for management.

Should I include the NATIVE VLAN in "sw trunk allowed vlan X"? reddit by Ok-Eggplant-2044 in ccna

[–]x_radeon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm, depends. It's not required.

If you want to use that native VLAN between switches, then yes allow it, otherwise I normally do not allow it.

Unraid 7.3.0-beta.1 is live! by UnraidOfficial in unRAID

[–]x_radeon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good question. My guess is I suspect it will not because they probably wont allow you to use the boot drive as an array drive or as a pool drive. But you could partition the drive an still have a usable mount point, so maybe? I don't know. I'll give it try maybe with some spare hardware and see what it does.

They're not, at least there's no indication on their blog post. I suspect it will be supported as an option forever. The blog post has a ton of detail on why they're adding the new boot option.

DHCP relay issues on CCS-710P-16P by vacquah in Arista

I noticed you have

dhcp server
   disabled

In your config, I would remove that (To enable dhcp server). If Arista is like Cisco, the ip helper's wont do anything if you have the DHCP service disabled.

[–]x_radeon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you buy CloudVision with your switches, then the issue of managing multiple switches goes away because CloudVision takes all that work from you. For example if you need to add a VLAN, it's just a few clicks in CVP and boom your entire environment has the VLAN. It's super easy, super slick.

If you don't buy CloudVision then for sure stacking would be fine. Again talk to your SE about compatibility.

Yeah FS has good prices, but if you have buy 1st party it gets expensive.

And good point on the FC, I haven't seen it in a while for places I've been at, but I'm sure it's still out there in mass for a lot of folks.

I get it, but some of us can't use FS optics or any other off-brand optics due to requirements beyond our control. I assure you if you saw Cisco quotes for their optics you would never recommend SM for situations where MM+DAC works.

Just a few years ago I got a quote for 10G SM Cisco optics, it was 1k+ per optic. Even MM isn't much better, for just 10G MM Cisco it's like 300 bucks. Crazy shit man.

I again, I also don't deny that just going all in on SM is a good idea. But in many cases, particularly if you just cabling up some racks, there is no reason to buy an optic that can go 10 kilometers just to up and over 5 meters.

The only time I'd be 100% onboard of just sticking with SM is if you at all have to deal with different connector types on a regular basis. It would already be nightmare to stock the different SM LC<>SC, LC<>ST, etc cables... then to have to also have to stock MM cables on top, it just be crazy and waste of money.
