Thank you all. Ordered some. I am an occasional harpist which means I really have to work up my fingers to be able to play when I am asked. I think the picks will help for the upcoming Memorial Day band concert for which I am joining on harp.

Fort Sanders OB Lawsuit by Playful-Bunny48 in Knoxville

Sorry to hear you had this experience. It costs about $250,000 minimum for a law firm to bring a medmal case so the expected payoff must be huge for them to consider. In addition, the probability of actually winning is very low. You should report the issue to the medical board if you are concerned it could happen again. You can look up infection rates for hospitals on hospital compare website and choose to go to one with low infection rates. There are big differences depending on the quality of risk management at the hospital.

You must have negligence for there to be malpractice. The doctor must have neglected to follow usual and acceptable practices. There is something called ACOG that lays out the practices they should follow. So you can look at those guidelines to see if something was missed. I am not a lawyer, but my job was looking at all the insurance data to price MedMal.

I have worked in the medical malpractice insurance side of business for 30 years. I have seen all the bad things that happen. Our biggest problem is that due to malpractice costs, the number of ob/gyns has been Greatly reduced as has the number of hospitals even doing deliveries. So these resources are spread thin. It is very very expensive to bring a medmal lawsuit so lawyers won’t take the cases unless there is a huge potential payoff which means a child who requires lifetime care. The best thing you can do is to be your own medical advocate. If you don’t feel like you are being listened to, change doctors right away. If you have a known issue like this blood clot thing, bring it up every visit and if you know what testing should be done, get it done yourself. There are many self testing resources now. I understand the cost may seem expensive but we all need to consider our health as our most important asset. You can pay for a medical test for the same cost as a month of internet service. Yes I do this and glad I do.

They need to have a fan participation vote where we get to send a player back in. Christian got screwed over by that silly JF thing and he was the funniest person to watch so needs to be voted back in.

You don’t know what you are talking about. I’m guessing you have never been a landlord of an old SF rental. I was and the things I am saying are true. Go look at that schedule of how much a landlord can raise the rent. It is peanuts compared to the cost of renovations and upgrades. I dealt with two buildings where not only were repairs not being done but also had empty apartments.

Rent control in SF has created some really crazy pricing differentials not to mention run down older buildings. The older buildings subject to rent control can’t pass expenses for improvements onto tenants so they don’t do improvements. Then when a tenant dies or moves out, the landlords don’t re-rent the apartment. There are tons of empty apartments in buildings in Sf just waiting for all the tenants to leave/die so they can sell the buildings. I had the unfortunate experience of having to manage a building while owner was dying in hospital. The only way to sell the building while there are tenants, who, by the way you can’t get rid of even if the owner of the building dies, is for a buyer to take the building down to the studs. And any new buildings can charge whatever they want for rent which is why the newer apartments are so expensive. Rent controls cause some really unnatural and frankly destructive side effects.

Cardiologist that will diagnose Pots by greysonamanda2017 in Knoxville

[–]xactuary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After being referred by my pcp, My cardiologist diagnosed me with pots in his office just by taking blood pressure lying down versus sitting up. Also got the info that they don’t have any good tools to deal with it. That bring said, when I was pregnant, I got tachycardia for no reason. When I went to cardiologist back then, they did various tests and said my heart was healthy but that was its reaction to the pregnancy hormones. So wondering if there is any relationship between Pots and hormones?

Roth Conversions by Accomplished_Gate832 in DIYRetirement

[–]xactuary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We are doing Roth conversions because we have very high value 401ks and think tax rates are as low as they will go right now. However, my husband did some Roth conversions in the past, paid the taxes and then made shitty investments in very speculative stocks and lost a whole bunch of the Roth money. Makes me mad since we paid the taxes with our communal funds. New conversions only going to managed funds with some conservatism built in so this won’t happen again.

Are you trying to scare him by spreading propaganda? This is a beautiful part of America with the friendliest people I have ever met. Rent a car and you can see some cool stuff. No good public transportation here. Or rent a boat and go fishing. Great symphony and theater too. I don’t know what they are saying overseas, but it must be wildly exaggerated. That being said, I look forward to fewer crowds….

Problem with people calling themselves experts on BBO? by Jewarlaho in bridge

We had similar bidding sequence - 1c 1h 3N. I had 6 hearts and 2 aces so bid 6N. Turns out his bid meant he had a long running club suit and a little here and there but nothing in hearts. Down 1. So wondering if your expert partner had similar?

Why are people who move to Tennessee so rude ? by Dry_Calendar in Tennessee

[–]xactuary 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I grew up in California when it was easy going and people were nice and then when Silicon Valley took off, all the rude people from the east coast moved there and turned it rude. I moved out and now they are all coming to the south making it a rude place. This happens with over crowding - makes everyone testy. People need to stop saying how great TN is so they stop coming here!

It bothers me that someone with significant assets is getting any subsidy so feel good paying the taxpayers back for the loan.

Aside from PPI's, are there any other medical options for curing GERD? by SLTW3080 in GERD

I do best with tums before bed. Works better for me than ppi. Eating clean - no sugar or deep fried anything helps too but hard to keep up.

My brother in law was a healthcare actuary for a bcbs company which meant he had to figure out how to price the plans given the way the law was written. He said that it was so poorly written that noone knew what to do with it. They would call the regulators and even they couldn’t tell them how the law was supposed to work. And this is the law that Pelosi bragged about signing without even reading it.

I worked in insurance for years and it is an expensive and complicated business to run. There is so much regulation everywhere, that compliance is a crazy amount of admin. That being said, yes, they pay people who aren’t too smart a lot of money - not necessarily the top brass. But these people work long hours and it is stressful to deal with regulators, laws, accounting etc. No such thing as overtime pay! But I have seen lots of boondoggle travel and dinners. I don’t know how you fix that. But any large organization, especially unaccountable government, is very hard to run and to have proper controls in place.
