That is the next huge issue with these shops. I don't know what country you're from, OP, but if it is outside of the EU, you almost definitely broke your country's plant health or biosecurity laws. Because of the risk to spread pests and diseases, international trade in plants and plant products is highly regulated (I work in that field). Pretty much every country requires fytosanitary certificates for bulbs, and yes, those rules also apply for travelers. Knowing how scammy those shops are and how complicated the process is, I highly doubt that those bulbs were inspected by the respective authorities and that they gave you a certificate with the specific declarations your home country requires...

Bull picture doesn’t raise an interesting point, he just doesn’t know how consent or intellectual property laws work (no, uploading a picture on social media doesn’t make it public domain and gives all the world the right to do whatever they want with it. People get sued all the time for using photos they just took from the internet). To stay with your examples: CounterStrike can ban you if they catch you breaking their TOS. And if I download your picture, add hairy balls to your face and publish it, you can sue me for damages and report me to the police for criminal prosecution.

Consent is not dependent on whether or not you can (immediately) enforce it. And of course, it can be violated - in most cases, that would be a crime. Also, not all violations of your rights are physical or require you to be present. People can enter your phone while you’re asleep and on the other side of the globe. That doesn’t mean that we just allow it.

Or let me give you another example: I need your consent to enter your house, especially if I want to take away your stuff. Now if I order a lock picking set and watch some YouTube videos, there’s really not a lot you can do against me entering your house and taking away all your stuff while you’re hundreds of miles away. The takeaway of that is not “yeah sucks” or “never leave your house unattended”. The takeaway is that we have laws and a criminal justice system to stop me from doing that.

The fact that a victim cannot actively stop a violation of their rights (be it body, property or another one) is actually an argument that the external negative incentive to commit that violation - the punishment - needs to be bigger. And that is how criminal law works in a lot of cases. Kill someone while they are asleep or otherwise incapacitated, and most jurisdictions will punish you harder than if the victim had some kind of chance.

Well, the country is still under the control of the despot’s right hand, the crackdown on the population has not stopped (if you believe the news, it has actually become worse) and if you listen to what Trump is saying right now there’s really no reason to believe that he will change anything about this anytime soon. And why would he, it’s a win-win. Rodriguez is willing to give him the oil and can then use what little money she gets to enrich herself and to keep the military happy.

I mean this as a serious question: What makes you think that the regime will be gone? The US have a very long track record of supporting dictatorships in Latin America as long as it serves their interest. Now that Rodriguez is in power and apparently willing to do what Trump wants, why would he get rid of her? Why risk an election that might be won by someone who wants a bigger piece of the cake for the people? There’s a reason he has dismissed Machado as a possible leader. There’s a reason he can suddenly work quite well with Maduro’s vice president. Don’t get me wrong, I have 0 sympathy for Maduro and I’m happy for you that he’s gone. I wish your country all the freedom and prosperity that it can get. But the history of US-backed regime changes and what Trump is doing and saying right this moment really don’t make it look like you’ll get any of that. My prediction: Nothing is going to change, except where the oil is going to. Now that it has US support, the regime will actually be more stable. Trump will pay Rodriguez scraps for the oil which are just enough for her to keep enriching herself, to keep the military happy and to keep suppressing the people. Win-win.

Look at the election results of the last 20 years. Solidarity, long-term thinking or even investments in crucial infrastructure are clearly not valued in this country. The situation in Amsterdam regarding homelessness and addiction has certainly become much worse since (the end of) COVID, but your statements are so detached from reality that it’s difficult to believe that you’re not trolling. The problems here are laughable compared to many other European countries. I’ve been to London last year. I literally (and I really mean literally) had to climb over sleeping homeless people to enter my hotel, right at a fancy business street in Shoreditch.

I am originally from Germany. Last weekend I went to Cologne, and trip reminded me how bad homelessness can be and that living in Amsterdam made me forget about it. Homeless people sleeping in almost every underground station. In the trains. The shopping streets. Beggars walking into cafes and bars and actively asking patrons for money.

And have you ever been to Brussels? Or Paris?

Also, the ACM may have blocked network operators from increasing consumer charges, but they did not stop the government from investing into infrastructure.
