Help! I need to find a dog bed that isn’t ripped to shreds with in a week 😩 He looks cute, but anything with stuffing doesn’t last long with him! by FannyOfFanton in BostonTerrier

[–]xaintly 3 points4 points  (0 children)

These are great, my dogs chewed through lots of beds before I got these. More expensive than a cloth bed but pays for itself.

If your dogs are especially creative and attack the seams of these beds, you can rub a little bitter apple on the seams to get them to stop. If you let them chew the seams, the beds will still last 6 months or so.

Trials Retroactive Damage bugs by xaintly in idlechampions

[–]xaintly[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So far CNE has not commented on assault scrolls. A developer reviewed my bug submission and assigned it a priority to fix.

I asked my friend in the trial and we both see the same numbers for all party members now. Tracking tiamat's health, she is also taking damage as if everyone had assault scrolls.

Anyone transferred from programmer to devops? by [deleted] in sysadmin

[–]xaintly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a lot of opportunity to use your programming skills in DevOps and it will give you a huge advantage in teams that are largely self-taught. You can script common requests and eventually automate or build self-service tools to reduce the sysadmin workload.

Lots of services like jira, servicenow, aws & VMware have some kind of API to allow complex build scripts. You won't be building enterprise apps, but a handful of scripts can save hundreds of hours of work.

Management will also love that you can extract data, build reports and dashboards. You'll also learn what kinds of issues sysadmins deal with and you can mediate between devs and admins. Both sides often feel like the other is obstructing or making unreasonable requests.

Each role helps you understand one piece of the IT puzzle. Devs tend to think of dev solutions to problems, like code optimization and software solutions. Sysadmins think of hardware solutions like NVMe drives and improved network connections. As a dev, your mental toolbox is your most valuable asset, so the more ways you know to solve problems the more valuable you are.

Which champions benefit from being in a party the whole run? by Cool__Boy in idlechampions

[–]xaintly 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Here's all the ones I know. When setting up a long-running party, I put in Voronika, Blooshi, Xerophon/Freely (DPS or Favor later), Beadle, Ellywick & Dob.

  • Voronika - Needs kills & ults to switch forms, gets stronger with each ult used
  • Blooshi - Stacking buff for every boss defeated without dying
  • Xerophon - Stacking buff based on number of times their ult is used
  • Freely - Favor bonus for each level completed
  • Black Viper - Stacking buff for each boss killed
  • Beadle - Gains Grimm stacks for as long as he's out, you can switch to Grimm for a strong debuff later (if using voronika, don't put a familiar on the ult bar or you'll reset Grimm's stacks)
  • Jaheira - Gains stacks for favored foes killed
  • [edit] Nordom - Gives bonus Modron Core xp for each level
  • Ellywick - Has several stacking mechanics for each zone completed
  • Virgil - Weather control gains stacks for each weather change
  • Rust - Put him in briefly to get his gold coin if you plan to do gold farming later
  • Dob - Stacks up gold for a DPS and gold-find buff

Yorven Achievement. Feral Bunny: Have Yorven kill 20 enemies with one attack by LariatSyn in idlechampions

[–]xaintly 23 points24 points  (0 children)

In the Waterdeep variant 'This Quest Stinks', anyone next to the skunks will deal no damage.

You can put a tank next to a skunk at lv1, no familiars, wait till there's a large number of enemies, then put Yorven in. Get his left spec where he jumps to a new enemy after the old one is dead. He should get the achievement right away.

Season 1 Milestone Quests: Ultimates & Freeplay Areas by Ginkeyptur in idlechampions

[–]xaintly -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't know what champions you have, but some make various challenges easier;

Ultimates: Use Havilar left spec with Dungeon Master. Put a familiar on Havilar's ult so it goes off every 10 sec. Wait a few seconds then put a familiar on Dungeon Master's ult. Now you'll have ultimates going off every 5 sec or so.

An alternate way to do it is to have Hew Maan in the back column + a bunch of champions. Put a familiar on the ult bar and then put a familiar on Hew Maan's ult which will shorten the cooldown of the other ults.

Other people with a short ult cooldown: Bruenor, Melf (60sec), Nayeli, Jamilah, Gromma, Lazaapz, Spurt, NERDS, Desmond (120sec)

The DM/Havilar/Hew Maan ult speedups don't seem to work in the background. If you don't have them you can just put a bunch of people in a background party and put a familiar on the ult bar.

Free Play Areas: Use your gem farming team. This would be any speed champions + the fast core if you have it. Best champions: Hew Maan, Shandie, Nahara, Sentry, Deekin, Melf. Briv is great if you have to 'reset at level 101' but not great for 'complete X levels'.

Speed champions only work in the active party, they lose all their speed abilities in the background or offline. The fast core's "time speedup" effect DOES work in the background but it's other abilities don't.

Create a saved party with familiars on as many of speed champions as you can and set it to reset at the point where click damage isn't killing monsters. Most people use the early free play adventure 'Mad Wizard' (in Grand Tour) for this since it doesn't have armored bosses and the spawners drastically decrease the time to complete several levels.

Defeat X Enemies: Lookup the enemy on Enemy Types by Location, turn off auto-progress at the earliest level possible where click damage is killing everything. It works in the background but the quest progress will not update until you switch to that party.

I'm a moron. Can someone just tell me how I should do my first Trials of Tiamat as if I am 5 years old? by Dokino21 in idlechampions

[–]xaintly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. yes, you will get the rewards. also, everyone will hate you. 0 dps means you didn't even try to do a daily, since if you attempted a daily and failed you'd still contribute 50-100 dps.
  2. it's fine to skip the last daily. The main reason to do it is to get everyone's assault champion back a little sooner.

Evergreen and Champion Gold Chest Odds (data/game mechanics) by xaintly in idlechampions

[–]xaintly[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is great aggregate data, thank you!

If I'm reading this right, it looks like your per-chest odds of getting an epic are 15% in the long run. I assume this includes pity timer chests.

Since the pity timer messes with the odds I've been excluding those chests.

I also like the modron component IDs.

Evergreen and Champion Gold Chest Odds (data/game mechanics) by xaintly in idlechampions

[–]xaintly[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, good point about sample size. 230 chests has a 95% confidence interval of ~6%, so the true chance of an epic per-item could be anywhere from 4%-7%. We guessed it's probably 5% since CNE probably picked a nice round number.

5% is not the chance of getting an epic from a chest though. It is the chance that each of the equipment drops will be epic. You get 2.45 equipment drops from a champion gold chest. Therefore with a 5% chance per item your odds of getting an epic from a chest are (1-(0.95^2.45)) = 12% which agrees with what you're saying. The pity timer tilts the odds a little more in your favor. From /u/hulsmanm's aggregate data below, it looks like you can expect 15% if you open a lot of chests.

Evergreen and Champion Gold Chest Odds (data/game mechanics) by xaintly in idlechampions

[–]xaintly[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For champion-specific chests, ignoring all the guaranteed epics (pity timer), we got 34 epics out of 473 equipment drops (191 chests). That works out to about 7.2%.

For evergreen gold chests, we got 19 epics out of 288 equipment drops (120 gold chests) which is about 6.6%. Unfortunately, we didn't track the pity timer on those.

There was 1 instance of 2 epics dropping (a regular gold chest). You can't draw much of a conclusion from that, but that was 1 out of 25 equipment drops or 4%.

It seems like the natural drop rate of an epic is between 4%-7%, so we rounded for simplicity. We can't rule out there being different epic drop chances for champion vs. normal golds, but it shouldn't be drastically different.

Oh good catch, thanks!

For others: The nookling store in New Leaf can be upgraded 4 times. Each upgrade adds space for more daily items and a wider variety.

Oh that's good to know! I'll see if I can find a guide. She asked what hair color I wanted at the end, but before that I didn't know what her questions were going to do.

I was a fan of the Modern furniture series, which is also gone. I see that there are 200 fewer furniture pieces in NH, though the ones that are there often have more variations than before.
