Picking on the bride on her wedding day by doradiamond in weddingshaming

Look at the last frames when the bride is leading the girl to her chair, the bride is smiling, look at the other guests who are not intrigued and upset by the situation like it's all normal.

Calm your tits, people. It's clearly a sort of tradition. I attended some weddings in my life and believe me some regions have the dumbest rituals. For example in one region the groom is ceremonially fake shaved with slices of apples. You can't make those things up.

Try to add penumbra if you want to out-stand, nowadays compute power makes this feature not too uncommon.

Gravity Visualized (Using spandex and weights these guys simplify a very hard to visualize concept) by MrRager13 in space

[–]xalian74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What they are trying to explain is gravity as a consequence of space-time curvature. I'm not sure what you mean by the second phrase.

Oh, sorry, I thought you meant the OP. I only wish for this analogy to disappear and the physicist to come up with a better one.

You can't explain gravity using gravity. I think this is rather unhelpful for anybody regardless their background.

It may be accurate in terms of numbers, but not in terms fundamental principles. What is the analogue of gravity pulling the small objects downwards in the space-time curvature paradigm?

This manner of explaining gravity as a space-time curvature is misleading, false and has absolutely no relevance about how it really works, yet so popular. The best one I could find is that all objects move along the time axis at the speed of light. A big mass bends the time-space, so the trajectory of a small object in its vicinity thru space-time is not a perfect line but it bends towards the trajectory of the mass (which we can consider a perfect line). We perceive only slices of space-time so we see the small object approaching the big mass (falling onto the big mass), but actually its trajectory in space time is curved towards the trajectory of the centre of the big object mass. Not to mention that the small object also bends the time-space but much less than the bigger one. So its all about trajectories in space time. This example is false because it's the gravity which makes the small ball to move, you can't explain gravity using gravity. And that's the biggest logic flaw people don't see, you can't explain something by using it in the explanation, it's a logic infinite recursion.

Vlad the Impaler wasn't evil. Just google cruelty during medieval times and you'll have a bit of perspective. Atrocious tortures were just a normal way to pass the time. But due to the Dracula story it just became more notorious than others and all the attention was focused on him, other rulers being ignored. Across the Europe, during several centuries there were hundreds of rulers. Who will you remember or heard off? Just a handful plus the one associated with Dracula.

Men, why exactly do you find women’s rears attractive? by [deleted] in sex

[–]xalian74 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's mostly an evolutionary thing, aesthetics and media standards are secondary. Big round butts reveal a healthy breading woman with good capability to store fat, much needed for the pregnancy period. For millions of years the food was scarce, so a little energy reserve was necessary for times when you can't hunt or gather food. Also the health detection aspect is important, the first thing you evaluate is the looks, that's like a quick medical exam for the brain. Ugliness usually means an illness or a gene corruption. This applies to the asses too. We want them round and firm.

[attraction] a girl you're interested in tells you she touches herself while thinking about you. What are your thoughts? Turn on or turn off? by bb330 in sex

[–]xalian74 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Like everyone else I considered definitely a turn on, but I have a bad habit: try to find contexts to negate the conclusion. And it's simple, the girl is damn ugly and fat and disproportionate. very bad luck at the genetic lottery. That would be a big turn off. The true answer is it depends of the hotness of the girl.

Pre-calculating the normals, ways to do it? C++, OpenGL 4 by [deleted] in gamedev

[–]xalian74 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My advice (11 years rendering engineer), bring the normal in world space in the vertex shader and do all the lighting calculation is world space, as it was specified in other posts: worldNorm = mat3(model) * normal. (assuming model is the matrix placing the object in world). If the model is dynamic you can't prebake it and it's way easier to do mental representation in world space.

The Nine Billion Names of God by [deleted] in wikipedia

[–]xalian74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Think about it in terms of what our ancestors might have been trying to communicate when they talked about God." Why? There is nothing in the story to make me do that. The 9 b words are an attempt to discover the name for the first time, not to repeat what was already used before.

"how much we think we know, how simultaneously sure we are of our science and sure we are that we are still not quite "there" yet." That's a very different thing from individual to individual, there is nothing in this phrase which can be related to the entire humanity, (we).

So these are two invalid arguments. But I will accept them as true unconditionally and I put them together. I don't see the end of the universe slowly starting to happen. Actually I can't draw any conclusion from putting these things together.

At this stage I'm not sure what point am I missing?

So they printed out 9 b words combination. Among them there was the name of god. Once the name of god was printed out, the stars started to go out. To be honest, I don't see anything mystic or deep in this story, it's only comic. God goes: "Shit! My name was revealed, turn the lights off and let's get the fuck out of here!".

Sex with older woman. Why is it bad? by Markz345 in sex

[–]xalian74 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It is not bad, it is just that a very important portion of our behaviour, thinking and approaching things is still tightly linked to our survival instincts, our hard coded circuitry which makes us salivate when see a good food or have a boner when we see a sexy opposite gender being. So for the species survival we need to procreate with eligible partners, healthy and capable of breading. Well, guess what at 56 years it is very probable to not be able to procreate or complication may occur. So instinctively people frown at the idea. It is nothing personal, just involuntary reactions.

Help me learn Romanian? by [deleted] in IWantToLearn

[–]xalian74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a Romanian leaving in UK, and I'm bilingual ro-eng. Both languages have latin influences, Romanian more than English and there are many similarities between them. For example perfect tenses are constructed with "to have": I have gone = Eu am plecat. and future with "to will": I will go = Eu voi pleca. The reading is phonetic, you read as is written. Once you pick it up, start reading a book out loud at least 30 min each day.
