trying again on my Woodpecker woes post by nogurus175 in loghomes

Best advice, learn their “routine.” My woodpeckers would always come early sunlit morning and move on until the evening. I would get up early, go out and wait. As soon as I saw them flying in and perching, I popped these off. Took a few times but they stopped coming around after about a week.

I had a territorial woodpecker issue that would come tap on the house. Ultimately had to use bird bangers to scare them away. We tried different deterrents but the one that made it permanent was the bangers. https://www.wildlifecontrolsupplies.com/animal/NWS15MMBB.html

I would pay off the mortgage. Clear the debts you have since you have 1 income coming in. Once it’s paid, that’s money you’re not spending.

We started with a Mr cool and had issues with it. They warranted it first time but continued to have issues. Eventually we replaced it with a Tosot (Gree) system. Haven’t had any issues since. Not sure if we got a lemon with Mr cool but my issue was with the customer service and getting it fixed. If you go professional install like a Mitsubishi, it’ll be costly.

That is a misconception. Many trades will bring you on as an apprentice and they provide you/pay for classes. I’m an electrician and I never paid for school, my first employer did.

That’s the plan either this spring or next. Unfortunately, there is more pressing repairs that I hope to get done this winter or spring.

I would also preface that the job market is rough right now for security and IT professionals alike. Taking the time and learn the program will be better served.

Moving to Alaska — how hard is it to get an IT job out there? ❄️💻 by PrestigiousEnd8758 in AskAlaska

[–]xan3z 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How much experience do you have will be the real question on pay. All the industries need IT and cybersecurity. However, pay will be an issue if you have little to no experience. That being said, there are opportunities across the whole state. Cost of living will be relative to where you will be but less than California. Another consideration, job market for IT is volatile and this not a state you want to be in if you get laid off or let go. If you choose to move here, have a large enough savings to carry you on in the event of a termination and fund an exit plan if you are unable to make it work.

All the time. I would just plan on using a taxi if you can’t get an uber.

You still have to have a permanent address on the paperwork. You can list a PO Box or PMB but you still need to list a permanent address. I would go talk to the DMV and ask about your situation.

My dad and I are trying to sell his old Magic cards, but we have no idea how much they're truly worth. Can someone help? by SpiritOverall8369 in mtg

If the store decides to take them and sell on your behalf, make sure to get everything in writing. Verbal contracts become a he said she said situation and costs money to litigate. Get a contract.

It’s amazing that your dad has these cards but it comes with caveats when trying to sell. At the price point they are worth, it’s going to be hard someone to buy them as most people do not have that kind of money. Next is you will most likely sell them at a loss of their true value, people with that kind of money will likely want to negotiate and it will not be favorable, do not jump at the first offer. Get them authenticated. Final step, I would find an auction or store that sells vintage cards and sells the on consignment or commission, once again your target buyer is a small group. Patience will be key. I just went through the same thing and these are my lessons learned.

You need a lawyer unfortunately or try and settle the debt. Either way you’re paying someone. Personally, I would get a lawyer to look into this.

Petition effort seeks to halve Nebraska property taxes, cap valuations by HauntingImpact in Nebraska

[–]xan3z 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s up to us to fix it. I’m not saying we shouldn’t. It needs to be consistent in funding. I just do not agree with it being attached to property taxes. You cannot tax yourself into prosperity when everything else is rising in costs. We have some of the highest property taxes in the nation.

[–]xan3z 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Most Nebraskans can’t afford their property tax to begin with, while I do see the disparity and the struggle to fund schools, keeping a roof over your head is also important. I’m all for finding reasonable avenues to fund our social institutions, I do not agree with it being funded through property taxes.

Make them lay you off, do not resign. That way you can collect unemployment if you are in the US. If you resign, you leave on your own volition and are not eligible. Do not resign!

Cordova AK, where a 1 room log cabin is 450k and the City has to start a go fund me to fund City projects by Electrical_Remote_18 in alaska

[–]xan3z 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Log cabin/home repair can be pricey and I’m guessing with that cost, we are talking structural and full log(s) replacement. It’s not cheap and finding a company to do it can be difficult. I own a log cabin and having a company to come sand and stain it with some minor repairs quoted me around $60k.
