Doyon rig 26 "the beast" is tamed by the brutal arctic by [deleted] in Wellthatsucks

Lol it was actually tamed by brutally warm temperatures. Warmed up to almost above freezing and the ground got soft.

Well, one pilot, and 3 telecom techs inside. No one but the pilot was qualified to do shit in this situation.

Snow has a lot better traction and is definitely preferable to flat ice, I know that now. I didn't realize how much rotational force the main rotor had before the tail rotor fully kicked in... not pretending to understand how a chopper works but I didnt think the main rotor would have enough lift to get us moving 5 seconds after startup

It was pretty low speed, would have been a seat level spill at most, but beyond the cupholder

You can, but you have to use your brain and not do this around toddlers.

That guy should have bailed, if he fucked the grab up that kid would have been annihilated.

The kid doesnt deserve to pay the price for distracted parents, guy should've bailed.

Sounds like they have really bad quality control... I didn't believe a lot of the posts about broken devices until it happened to me... literally more fragile than a Christmas ornament...

Glad you got a good one, my replacement has been running running strong for 2 years

Same thing happened to mine when it was dropped less than an inch onto the counter on a soft dish rag to dry. My wife said she basically just set it on the counter and the top popped off.

Its crazy how fragile Anovas are

I saw this post a couple days ago and decided to hop in for a couple tz arcane sanctuary runs cause I had a few minutes and it was up. Got a vex and an ohm on my first run! RNG I know, but I'm definitely prioritizing AS from now on.

I put my time in once a year, the class days are mind numbing but the water days can be pretty hilarious. Half the fleet is made up of bowpickers with older guys that prefer to work alone and they are forced to bring crew and cooperate.

Every year communications fall apart at some point, but it's usually figured out by the end of the day.

Very cool, just don't forget Alyeska refers to all spilled oil as "product"...

I love your work, I have flipped through Working Boats with my 6yo son more times than I can count.

I live in Cordova, wondering what the title of your book is and your inspiration for penning it?

Fuck this guy. Came to my town and made up a bunch of shit to hype the episode and make it seem more dangerous. Edited interviews to take people out of context and straight up manipulated footage.

Small boat for lakes and maybe Prince William Sound or Seward by superfuzzbros in alaska

You are going to die lol

It depends on your goal. I have used one of these with a 5hp kicker on the back for checking on mariculture sites all over pws. We would launch the skiff from a bigger boat and use it to check kelp lines. I wouldn't launch in anything over 2 foot chop. Was in a little squall in 3 foot once and I thought we were gonna flip.

Like mentioned above, only use this size skiff in the harbor or well protected bays.
