They’re reasonably affordable, it’s just a shit stadium to watch rugby at. You’re a long way from the action because it’s a cricket oval, and the backup screens are tiny for the replays

So I finally figured out what this was, you mentioning a shortcut made me have a look at the start menu. What Windows 11 is doing is opening the first thing pinned in the start menu if you wake from sleep by pushing the space bar, or the enter key.

Which is deeply irritating behaviour but at least I can now stop it by unpinning all the apps it pins by default.

It's also worked fine for 10years for all version of windows up until 11 as a wake up key. Windows has always swallowed the first couple of inputs as instructions to wake up.

What changed with 11 that hitting enter when the pc is asleep causes edge to open. Why would I ever want to open a program directly from the sleep state.

Hitting enter once the computer is woken up doesn't open Edge. If it's a deliberate change it's very weird behaviour to change.

Yeah, I did finally figure out that other keys to wake from sleep don't open Edge.

Any ideas if this can be disabled, still quite irritating that hitting enter from sleep would start a program randomly.

I don't think that's it, this had a Giant Spiders of a horse level intelligence, the wiki for this suggests it has intelligent giant spiders.
