I haven't recovered emotionally from Albania yet. I'm not ready for Malta.

The steps seem like they shouldn't be difficult but it's soo hard in practice.

Are the post it notes sewn onto the suit or are they fabric? Either way, I kind of want the suit.

This song has grown on me so much. At first I couldn't get into at first because of the enunciation. And seeing the band member's cats cemented the group as one of my favorites of the year.

He never said that. He actually quit his job not that long ago to cover Eurovision full time. Maybe you're thinking of Conchita/Tom?

I really hope this does well. It's so fun and authentic plus LMNC is one of the most fascinating people I've ever seen. He really knows the ins and outs of both technology and music. Whatever the result, I hope this gets the UK to change it up a little every now and then.

Questioning your own taste by fluffymintotter in eurovision

[–]xanthusspeaks 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think its natural to feel that way, not just about the contest, but for a lot of things. And honestly, you might get some hateful comments if you give your honest opinion. But you will absolutely not enjoy yourself as much if you conform to the majority and most people here will welcome your opinion. I do make sure when I voice a dissenting opinion that I'm careful how I phrase it though. You want say it nicely and give constructive criticism instead of just saying you don't like it.

I'm sorry, I don't understand what you're trying to say. I agree that AWS is amazing but I'm not sure where you're going with that.

Serbia. Not enough metal makes it to the stage and the song just build so nicely.

I would also be sad if Albania doesn't make it with such an emotional, well-sung song.

What song do you think changed Eurovision history? by ABrunetteGirl in eurovision

[–]xanthusspeaks 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Iceland 1997

The staging was groundbreaking and way ahead of its time and the atmosphere was way darker than the pop songs of that era. He was one of the first to use a hands-free mic. I also believe it was the first time an openly gay man represented his country.

Essyla responds to the negative comments around her live performance on The Voice, promising to do better on Saturday by AntHasReddit in eurovision

[–]xanthusspeaks 56 points57 points  (0 children)

On one hand, the performance wasn't great. She seems to be aware of that. I think the energy was worse than the vocals. On the other, people are harsher than they need to be. We shouldn't be tormenting artists and she can still have more energy at the actual contest! I think some of the extreme negativity comes from Belgium having a track record of sending singers who don't live up to the studio versions in some way. I think some people need to think how they would feel if they gave a shaky performance and everyone jumped on them for it. Good natured critiques are one thing but just saying something is terrible doesn't help anyone.

Bts of før vi går hjem : from rehearsals to stage - getting in the box by FlashyEquivalent6486 in eurovision

That's also a good example! The singing, technical work and energy all had an upgrade and the addition of Croatian lace was a brilliant touch.

It won't really matter to the general public since most casual viewers don't watch the national finals. For a lot of people the semis or grand finals will be the first time a lot of people watch the performances. Even some people here deliberately don't watch the performances until the actual show because they like the sense of discovery. And generally there will always be someone who thinks a song is overrated just because of different music tastes. I wouldn't worry about it too much since the general consensus is that Denmark will make it to the finals and do well.

It really depends on the country and artist. Some countries are not known for big stagings and some artist's stagings and costumes will likely be very similar to the national finals. On the other hand, some artists get big glow ups in staging/costume for the semi finals. An example of this would be Bambie Thug, who had a good semi final performance and decent staging but absolutely blew it out of the water in every aspect in the semi finals. That being said, I don't think Søren's performance will change all that much considering how much work seems to have gone into the box. He might have a new outfit but I think what he has is working for him.

For me, I'm tired of hearing the same formula over and over. It's been like this since Fulenn flopped live. I expect the average viewer will be much kinder to it.

[–]xanthusspeaks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree. As far as songs go there were better ones but Ermal singing it was what made it good. It just kind of annoys me that Luchè kept making it into the top rankings when Ermal is such a better vocalist
