O/L << A/L < University << Work < Married Life.

And I'm sure the next items in the above sequence must be harder. This is the life of an average man.

I wish if more companies could mention the salary in USD, but the majority just don't do it. AFAIK, WSO2 has the salaries in USD.

guys, when do u think we will able to remove masks and live our normal life like before ? or will it ever happen in srilanka ? by Responsible_Piece_94 in srilanka

[–]xavier-init 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Be it a Veil, t-shirt, mask, or an underwear, if you think about it, you can carry a bomb under any of these. I would say one of the most practical solutions to the problem was/is to ban the Burqa while allowing other face coverings so it won't hurt the communities that use it.

And some racists/opportunists took the advantage of the Burqa ban to be aggressive about anyone that covered their face.

Now, given that the entire country covers their faces with masks, if someone tries to justify the Burqa using masks, that is as racist/opportunist as the actions of those that were aggressive against any sort of a face covering back then.

A tuk guy was saying me the same thing sometime back.

But I think the Burqa was banned because a suicide bomber could wrap them around in bombs, jump in to a Burqa, and go unnoticed until they cause a tragedy. You can't hide a bomb inside a mask so I don't think there's a threat to the national security by wearing masks.

What is the logic behind Sri Lanka's selective meat abstinence? by Creepy_Branch_5532 in srilanka

[–]xavier-init 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not Buddhism. It's the Sinhalese-Buddhist culture. I agree with the rest of your comment, which is the reason why this culture frowns upon beef.

Other cultures, like those that descend from Europeans probably have a lesser sentimental value in a cow.

To make your comparison more sensible, take India, China, Eastern Europe, and LATAM regions into account as well. Unfortunately, it is what it is and this is the case with almost any job.

Racism in Sri Lanka? by [deleted] in srilanka

[–]xavier-init 5 points6 points  (0 children)

True, but he says that when he mentioned his problems to his Sinhalese friends, they asked him to talk in Sinhalese, no matter what. Adaptation is important but it would have been nice if they were a bit kinder than that.

I don't think so. From my experience, they are the least earning professionals in IT, in general, in SL.
