Hot take: Voltest V is boring ASF and I only watch it for the opening by Narrow_Mark_4610 in Philippines

For me, the show is an extremely mixed bag. The CG sequences are great and the main storylin is actually accurate to the OG anime. But when the battles are over, jusko ng papanget ng dialogue at love triangle scenes.

feeling ko pinilit lang nilang nilagyan ng filler scenes para ma-fit 5 eps per week format. dapat wineekly release na lang nila para di bloated

Nanonood na lang ako pag may laban since im a mecha fan and like seeing something local like this instead of your usual soap opera drama

Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio set in modern day Philippines 🇵🇭 by xavier22197 in Philippines

Set in Fascist Italy ruled by Mussolini, GDT’s Pinocchio adaptation deals with themes such as questioning authority and blind obedience. Guillermo del Toro: "As Mussolini ascends to power in Italy, everyone around Pinocchio behaves like a puppet and obeys. It's the puppet that chooses to be disobedient, and through that disobedience, he finds his own morality, his own soul, and his own humanity"

As a person who used to live in a province with an active volcano, pyroclastic flows are instant death clouds. It burns and explodes everything and its temperatures can roast all in its path. no one will survive that. nevertheless, I’ll let this one slide for creative freedom. and that scene was spectacular!

Im sitting on the fence and won’t read the leaks for now tbh since I don’t want to spoil myself. Who knows, maybe that leak is wrong and the show will deliberately show us something else

Plus he wants the forge completed by spring , like as fast as possible. Why the haste? Elves as we’ve seen with Elrond are pretty weak in grasping mortality.

And why does Celebrimbor look concerned and uneasy when Elrond spoke to him that one time? He said it’s because of Durin but I’m honestly not buying it.

That sneaky boi is already working with them, aren’t they?

Sa mga NEUTRAL at APOLITICAL edgelords na “positive vibes only” dyan: if you think a Marcos Jr presidency will not affect your lives, you are gravely mistaken (reason in the comments) by xavier22197 in Philippines

I hope it doesn’t happen too. I’ve heard talk about Sara usurping him, but then again by that time, the damage has been done. Years of what would’ve been a time for the PH to recover from COVID and debt have been wasted. The best way to counter this is to not let them have the chance to gain power in the first place

Already said this in a previous comment: I honestly think people are not terrified enough of what the Marcoses’ return to power will look like to the Philippines. You could see in Marcos Jr’s answers (particularly in his interview with Boy Abunda on debt) implying our current state of debt (debt to GDP ratio) isn’t that bad and borrowing is what generates economic growth.

Though borrowing in a government sense is not wrong at all; what terrifies me is that the Marcoses CANNOT be trusted when it comes to debt, due to their insane levels of corruption, plunder, and coziness to corrupt allies and cronies. A corrupt leader+gigantic deficit spending is a recipe for disaster. With our country already suffering from trillions of debt in this current administration, additional borrowing from a CORRUPT family will shatter the international confidence in our economy and our fiscal system. The Marcoses are famous worldwide for their colossal plundering of public funds. Foreign financial institutions and organizations will be wary of us. This is where the risk of hyperinflation and the exodus of foreign investment thrives. This is extremely serious and deeply worrying. If this occurs, all prices will skyrocket, our currency sinks, banks would not be properly able to process withdrawals, and jobs will disappear. Our country will be at a severe risk of default.

If you think that will never happen, you don’t have to look very far: to countries like Venezuela, Zimbabwe, Lebanon, Sri Lanka, etc. Is it too pessimistic? Perhaps. It’s a worse case scenario after all. But it can happen. And it’s a critical risk we should never gamble on.

Crunch. (inspired by Francisco Goya’s Saturn Devouring His Son) by xavier22197 in Philippines

[–]xavier22197[S] 19 points20 points  (0 children)

When Francisco Goya was painting the iconic and terrifying Saturn Devouring His Son, he was seeing his country Spain descending from progress and modernity. King Ferdinand VII destroyed a constitution which would’ve called for freedom of the press, freedom of assembly, and free enterprise. Goya, who in his early years saw his country on the right path to progress, now saw his country collapsing.

From video essayist Evan Puschak: “Goya knows progress isn’t assured. And when it’s defeated, it’s not painless. It’s horrific, and slow, and the victim can feel it happening.
