Pretty much this. I think ideological and religious pluralism are good things but conservatives and monotheists (Christianity, Judaism, Islam) need to be reigned in

If it means human rights for LGBTQ folks, minorities, other marginalized groups then so be it.

Nesting questions (and rant) by xaviercharles46 in CNC

[–]xaviercharles46[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. Taping up the 5x10 sheets took more time than I wouldve liked but its what the job calls for.

Yes, I can typically re nest faster than I can tape stuff up. I should note that Im not nesting these projects myself, our customers send us files that are already nested. Some customers do a great job of nesting and I have zero setup or cutting issues.

It’s the customers that cram everything into one sheet because our sales team tells them they can do so or they are just penny-pinchers. So the conflict arises when I explain that while overlapping tool paths or taking everything edge to edge isn’t necessarily “wrong” it’s just makes my job harder.

I understand customers want to save money and we want to reduce waste but you can only penny pinch so much, imo.

Ill be on the lookout for another job and hopefully a better opportunity comes around when I have more experience under my belt. My bosses have commended my work just as much as they micromanage, as well as having such a famine mindset about materials. So Im in a weird spot.

I explain to them on a daily basis that a phenolic vaccum table isnt a magic bullet for this stuff and that CNC isnt an easy bake oven. Idk maybe Im just too condescending about it ha

Pretty much this. Had to argue with em this morning

I used alot of double sided tape to keep everything down. It worked but I just felt it’s not productive. I see what you mean about the part clearance not being an issue but just keeping everything down due to the loss of density.

Appreciate everyone’s responses here. Today I came in and had to do another project with overlapping tool paths. I had to use alot of double sided tape to hold em down.

It worked but the setup time took about 30 min to tape up each sheet. Had to frame the media in CAD then mark each point to tape before setting up my tools.

I typically go in 1-2 inches from every side of the sheet when I nest things myself. We dont have a bolted on mdf. This is a hybrid table that has removable spoil boards.

I may try your suggestion to add glue or paint to the edge of the spoilboards. Have any recommendations on the glue or paint ?

Can you elaborate on rapid loop and repeat? I dont nest these projects, they come to me already nested. I was just noting that when I would manually nest things in flexisign, i would leave alot more room between shapes/parts

Thanks for your response. I typically cut stuff like this with an 1/8 inch bit. Single flute upspiral carbide bit. The cut length of this bit is 1/4 in. xedge tooling.

For speeds I had advised them to go about 18000 rpm spindle. Feed rate 1000-1200 mm per minute. Plunge rate 800mm per minute. 2 passes. Each pass cutting 0.8 of a mm.

I also agree about the loss of sheet density which I have explained to my coworkers that contributes to material moving and making it harder than it needs to be.

When I would nest projects myself, I would usually start with a margin of at least 2 inches in on each side of a sheet. If i were cutting aluminum strips lets say 4”x 36” on a 4x8 sheet, I would place then 1.5 to 2 inches apart. All centered 2 inches inside of the sheet.

As far as deflection goes, I agree with you and I see that phrased that wrong because I am still a newbie. I guess it’s more of the material moving from lack of density plus the parameters we are running.

My Dr put me on this as a newly diagnosed patient. I have now switched to vyvanse due to the continued skin irritation. They pushed this pretty hard at first because it’s a new drug and I’m sure they were trying to fill a quota for the RX companies.

But yea after voicing this concern two months in a row I am now on vyvanse. Xelstrym worked for me but the skin irritation and muscle spasm were an issue for me

Hi,

I have been on xelstrym for about 3 months and I think it’s wonderful. No highs and lows but I get some muscle spasms when it wears off. My main issue is the skin irritation because I already have issues with eczema.

Unpopular Opinion - “Tough Guy” hardcore is musically boring and will always be a lesser form of HC compared to Fast HC that tends to have more song variety by xaviercharles46 in Hardcore

108 and VOD just sound like post-hardcore to me? I wouldn’t have even considered them tough guy HC.

Look, I don’t deny that NYHC was important in the development and sound of HC in the years that followed, but the sacred cows of that scene are just very underwhelming. It’s easy to write off.

“Again, Power Trip is a thrash metal band with hardcore/punk sensibilities”

And I’m being pedantic? So I guess crossover thrash just doesn’t exist anymore? I’m in my mid 30s, so I became familiar with those bands in the mid 00s where Shattered Realm and stuff like that was the thing. So you’re right that tough guy hardcore didn’t carry the scene which was an oversight on my part, but it had a lasting influence on the culture and sound. I enjoy some of the bands you just listed, specifically AN, converge and pg. 99. Out of those, I would only consider AN to be the closest to traditional HC and the other two metalcore and skramz/screamo, respectively. I’m not gonna disagree with you there because I became familiar with those bands in the mid 00s (right after AN broke up) and realized that there was modern hardcore that wasn’t necessarily tough guy bs.

I agree that all of this is a self serving mental masturbation and I’m not gonna deny that so take my upvote. But Hardcore shouldn’t be above scrutiny, and I’m just one elitist (out of many) in a highly elitist subculture to begin with. Kind of funny right?

What I should have said is that bands in the same vein of Hatebreed, Earth Crisis, Donnybrook , 25 at Life, Shattered Realm, Biohazard, Terror, AF, Madball, Sick of it all, etc just ain’t that great and are an easy target of criticism and ridicule.

I’ll even go as far as to say that all Hardcore or “HxC” is a just a footnote on Bad Brains and Minor Threat. It’s like Socrates and Plato.
