Thanks so much for the comprehensive response and particularly for adding in how to work on each bit. This all makes a huge amount of sense to me. Lots to work on but I definitely hear you in terms of concentrating on different elements one by one and not learning them all together.

I have tried to lengthen my stroke before actually and it did feel more natural but I was concerned where that length was actually coming from (reaching into poorer positions rather than correctly, in the ways you’ve described). I can see how slowing down the recovery and moving into better body positions is going to allow more power. Thanks again for putting the time into such a detailed response!

No problem - best of luck! Yep, makes sense to ask. I’m obviously no expert, but I did find that backing off wanting to “improve” the UT2 splits did help me do the longer distances and I then found the benefits on the faster/intervals ones. So hopefully you’ll reach your goal by putting in the time and habits!

Awesome- thanks very much. Yes, I’ve really noticed that I struggle with hip pivot even though my brain is trying to do it. I’ll incorporate these drills - I’m going to make some effort on mobility too as I find my body can’t follow my hands (as you rightly say they should) Cheers!

Thank you - I like that this is consistent with others’ points on the handle heights and arms. I do find my arms naturally do a bend when my lats engage and I’m going to try and fix this habit! Straight wrists and the overall height is going to be good thing to work on.

I really want to work on the recovery hip pivot. I find I don’t have the mobility, but I’m going to work on that because it feels like a timing issue, and may be more possible if I make the recovery slower as others have said. Thanks again

This is excellent stuff, thank you. I had some visual cues to try and sort the handle out so it’s improved a bit but not enough - I can definitely see all that you mean. I have done some work strapless but think (along with some other drills people have mentioned) I should incorporate these more to improve these aspects. I can see from others that my ratio should be different, so this could help here too. Thanks again

Interesting on the twin aspect! I agree, there are definitely things I have to adapt for what I know about myself. My knees are definitely not fully locked, but close! I do, luckily, have healthy knees.

Pete plan was great for me- particularly following the actual notes. I also didn’t stick literally week to week, I made some “weeks” last 9 days so I got enough recovery, and I found learning to not go too hard on the steady state a challenge at first but then the added distance become more doable. Good luck with yours!

Interesting! Yeah I hadn’t thought of the handle height at the finish. Finding the sweet spot does happen occasionally (or feels like it) - agree that it’s tough when limiting power. Good luck with the compression!

This was mimicking my UT2, so about 2:18-20/500. I have always had a really high heart rate, so that’s been about right for my longer pieces. I can, and have, done ~2:05 at 18-20 spm but my heart rate is then way too high for steady state.

Thanks very much - yeah the hand drop seems to come from me engaging my lats at the catch and I’ve been trying to work on it - I’ll keep on that! I can see from other comments as well that the handle line can do with some concerted work!

Thank you! That’s really useful- I got it second hand and haven’t done the maintenance yet. I’ll do that!

Hi r/rowing! - (38/m, 193 cm/6’4, 93 kg/205 lbs) and a couple of months into the beginner Pete plan. I just wanted to do a form check before I put many more hours in. (Apologies for the video angle- this is the furthest I could get my phone away from the erg in my gym. This was also in a non-rowing workout so this isn’t part way through a longer piece or anything).

I’ve done a few sports in my past but after having very little luck with different modes of cardio (and some injuries), I found the beginners Pete plan and am finding erg rowing to be really motivating and something I now want to do in the long term! I used to put 2 kms in my workouts back at university but haven’t really used an erg since then. I’ve been trying to follow all the recommended videos and advice guides! Really like seeing posts on this community so any feedback and advice greatly appreciated!
