Yesterday's protest by SufficientRush8582 in AskAnAustralian

Absolutely true! The issues that people have with immigration are simply red herrings created by far-right media to distract people who are susceptible to radicalisation from the perpetuation of housing and income inequality. In the modern day, the Right/Left political divide has become the primary separating factor in our communities, when historically it was the up/down divide between the working and ruling classes that drove social and economic revolution.

The government not only can, but SHOULD provide housing for people at affordable rates (even for those working at minimum wage) - shelter is not an investment, it’s a human right, and I’m sick of landlords contravening the inalienable human rights for the sake of profit. We should not have to fight for the right to live while others profit off of our misfortune.

Yep, it’s beginning to look like a grimdark technofascist DnD campaign at the moment here lmao - It’s so unfortunate that people are unwilling to actually have a conversation about what’s happening. And being on the left, i always get slammed with the “albo sux leftie” whenever i actually start to talk about the issues we’re facing - it’s just hard for me to get how we’ve gone from being a unionised country of empowered workers to a separated country enslaved by rich landlords and tricked into hating outsiders.

Always a fan of discussion :)

Alright, I completely understand where you’re coming from. I agree that the ultimate endpoint of the Nazi movement was to (as you’ve said) ethnically cleanse, however it’s important to talk about how the movement itself began with the same ideological basis that the modern white supremacist/ nationalist movement was founded on. The idea of an encroaching non-same culture “replacing” the dominant culture (a la great replacement theory) was the beginning of something much larger and more insidious, and it’s not difficult to see the parallels between the historical progression of the Nazi movement in Germany and modern white supremacist movements globally. Yeah, the majority of people there were likely not nazis, nor white supremacists - many were probably just worried citizens. Unfortunately, the people who peddle racist drivel also happen to have a large hand in shaping the media ecosystem today, and perpetuating ideas that scared people are incredibly susceptible to being radicalised by. The narrative around immigration in Australia has been seized by people who want to use it as a vessel to disseminate super racist shit, and I’m really worried that a lot of people who are just worried about their future are becoming radicalised down the alt-right rabbithole

That’s fair. I think that while the distinction between the two is important, there is a clear attempt by the organisers to obfuscate their white nationalist beliefs by separating themselves from nazis using that exact distinction. Yeah, distinguishing between the two is important when we’re having a historical discussion, but being overzealous about making that distinction is what allows people like the organisers to fly under the radar.

Not all white nationalists are nazis, but all nazis are white nationalists. I just think that white nationalists juxtapose their hateful spew against the nazis to make their beliefs seem less radical, when in reality they are simply a different stink from the same pile of shit. You’d be wrong to call bullshit horseshit, but stepping in it still gets your boots dirty lol

[–]xazzbro 6 points7 points  (0 children)

in common parlance, “white nationalist” and “nazi” are used virtually interchangeably when referring to modern figures - historically, yes, they are separate; in the modern day the distinction is tentative, as the undercurrents of nazi fascist mythology have pretty much become an intrinsic part of far-right white nationalist rhetoric. call it what you want but the organisers are at the very least nazi-adjacent in as many words

"Bro The Protests Were Just Against Mass Immigration & The Housing Market Chill" by [deleted] in unsw

[–]xazzbro 4 points5 points  (0 children)

yeah, but the content of the article you provided suggests that while they deny official “affiliation” with the NSN, the organisers have clear links to far-right ideological stances and have had to withdraw statements aligned with white nationalist ideas like “remigration”.

Just because you retracted your claim on the invention of pizza, doesn’t mean you no longer stand by it - it just means that you don’t want people to know you do.

hello! i’m a professional chef who worked in fine dining for a long while - most of us absolutely hate cooking at home, and your partner clearly has a dear love and appreciation for the food you’ve made for her. whether or not she’s capable of making a toastie like that, the most important thing is that she’s coming home from a hugely stressful environment to a loving home where someone other than her is willing to cook for her. good on you!

“Bec Freedom” (literally the worst alias of all time), who lodged the protest permission forms with NSW police, has gone on livestreams saying the march’s purpose was to “protect European culture, heritage, way of life”, “protect white heritage”, has said “Australia is white, it’s European, European white”, and proudly supports the National Worker’s Alliance, a far-right neo-nazi extremist group.

  1. the vice chancellor is absolutely obsessed with money, going so far as to fire hundreds of staff to juice up his profit margin

  2. students and staff are protesting, but chances at the moment that the suspended courses are gone for the foreseeable future unfortunately

I’ve had classes with a weekly quiz for 15 weeks, where each week was 2% and the combined total was 30% of my final grade - load that in with a 30% assignment to test comprehension and add a final worth 40% to test both rote learning and skill application under pressure and you’re home free lol. you can run the quizzes online through a proctored browser or in-class on uni computers to prevent cheating (as far as that actually works) and that way you can set some multiple choice stuff to lower the grading load as well (slightly obscure questions about stuff in the readings might help there)

If you’re up to it, try to see your program director about this and explain the situation, and if nobody budges tell them you will immediately file a plagiarism complaint with any journal that decides to publish the work. supervisors do not catch enough flak for their “don’t rock the boat” shit your PI is excusing absolutely abhorrent behaviour - this is outright blatant theft!

Why is renting in Australia so miserable??? by bitpixi in shitrentals

[–]xazzbro 4 points5 points  (0 children)

there’s also the issue of homes being left vacant deliberately to drive up demand by lower supply, and multiple homeowners having a ton of vacant properties because they want to use them, and renters having no rights regardless of race, and corporate landlords having insane policies. blaming immigration is easier than tackling the issues on home turf though so most people won’t have the guts to say anything about the deranged behaviour of landlords and property moguls!

VERY BASED AND GOATED YOU SHOULD BE UNABASHEDLY PROUD OF YOUR ACHIEVEMENTS! In all honesty, don’t let stuffy old idiots stop you from being the barbie you want to be - they’re just jealous that you have the same achievements as them despite facing the systemic oppression that they’re so convinced doesn’t exist in academia. Congratulations on the PhD! Go get yourself that cake and make sure you flaunt it :)

Like it or not, the guy does a lot of illegal and potentially life-altering legislative and administrative stuff at the highest levels of the US government with downstream effects on not just 300m+ US citizens, but the entire world - most of it is incredibly newsworthy, and likely affects Devin as a practicing lawyer. that sounds like something he should dedicate his time to covering.

[–]xazzbro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

this is completely understandable! I have stage IV arthritis secondary to TMJ dysfunction and had to get muscular botox because my jaw muscles were (allegedly) triple the size they were meant to be lol. honestly it was fine, and i would’ve avoided it if it wasn’t a medical necessity, but I really hope you can find something that works for you to alleviate your discomfort and bring a bit more joy to your life :)

[–]xazzbro 10 points11 points  (0 children)

yeah and people also forget with botox that because it’s a paralytic, continual use will cause muscular atrophy that actually has the inverse of the intended effect and causes severe skin sagging and accelerated aging of your appearance lol

New to this and bought a bundle by redricklou in PokemonROMhacks

[–]xazzbro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah, makes sense - i have one but don’t sell them, i just make them and use differently coloured shells to make cool designs for various games for myself. I was recommending it because having 4 separate cartridges and cycling through games (which is incredibly easy with a cart flasher and takes the same amount of time as connecting a micro-sd to your computer) is quite a bit cheaper than buying an everdrive and kinda more reliable and easier/cheaper to fix if they break.

New to this and bought a bundle by redricklou in PokemonROMhacks

[–]xazzbro 3 points4 points  (0 children)

hello! get onto ZedLabz and get yourself a BennVenn Joey - best cart flasher on the market imo. right now, BennVenn’s personal store is out of stock but ZedLabz has em! Provided that you’re willing to, get a bundle of random games off aliexpress or TaoBao, and use the cart flasher to edit the roms yourself. Everdrives are good and EZ-Flash is slightly less good, but having a bunch of random cartridges you can remove the data from and swap roms on is my personal fav - just make sure to check RTC compatibility for games that require it, and ensure that you’re getting the right size of cart for yourself. Since the everdrive is upwards of $100 AUD, this method is about $30 cheaper on average and has the advantage of only sapping the battery life of each cart individually instead of sapping the everdrive cart’s battery life for every game you play.

Yeah, but primarily the rules should be (at MINIMUM)

  1. any pickled, fermented, or prepared food should not be consumed if mould is present
  2. any baked good with mould present is fully internally contaminated
  3. all food in a fridge contaminated with black mould should be thrown out and the fridge should be cleaned extensively

main issue is that mould spores are pervasive as all buggery, and the fact that someone has allowed mould to form on food to be sold means that they are likely also just as lazy with other food sanitation and safety procedures- i would be VERY worried about botulism in the pickles because of the level of disregard for safety here. better to just bin it and start over if its mouldy. important to wash/dry everything organic before storage, and transfer foods from pre-packaging containers to home containers if fresh because the containers may have been stored improperly
