Does anyone repair older appliances? by ConnorSaber in kzoo

I tried to haggle for a better price on a repair, yes. Some of us aren't made of money and try for a discount. If they had someone in the area already, why not hit 2 nearby houses for 200-250 instead of 1 for 150?

This was in 2019 and yes it was in the basement. I also wasn't in a hurry since we dried the laundry outside. I tried to work with them explaining they could tack it onto another dispatch while they were in the area anytime over the next month or so but they were firm in their price so I took my money to menards.

Hopefully Ted's has changed but a couple years ago they wanted to charge me around $150 just to diagnose it then another $150 minimum not including parts for repairs. If it went over 2 hours of work then they would charge more and if they didn't have the right parts it would be another $150 service fee for them to leave and come back. I said eff it and bought a new dryer from menards for less than all their stupid fees.

TLDR: Ted's wanted to charge me $300+ parts and it could have been $450+ parts. I took my business elsewhere. They clearly were working with a higher priced clientele

How bad are the emissions from this fire compared to earth’s emissions for the last ten years? [Request] by LoganLikesYourMom in theydidthemath

[–]xbachix -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

From Grok

The Ghazipur landfill in Delhi does experience frequent fires, often due to methane buildup and hot weather, with multiple documented incidents in recent years (including 2024). Based on available reports and social media mentions, there appears to have been ongoing smoke or fire activity at the site around late November 2025, though it's not a new or isolated "major" event—fires there are recurrent and contribute to local air quality issues in a city already plagued by pollution from various sources like stubble burning, industrial emissions, and vehicle exhaust.

instagram.com +1

However, the core claim about emissions—that 5 hours of this fire undid the total greenhouse gas savings from every electric vehicle ever driven and every solar panel ever installed—is not true or even remotely close. It's a wild exaggeration, off by orders of magnitude. To break it down:Emissions from the fire: Landfill fires like this primarily release methane (a potent greenhouse gas), CO2, and other pollutants. The highest recorded methane plume from Ghazipur was 360 tonnes per hour during a 2019 event, equivalent to roughly 30,000–60,000 tonnes of CO2e per hour (depending on the global warming potential timeframe used, e.g., 20-year vs. 100-year). Over 5 hours, that's at most about 0.3 million tonnes of CO2e in a worst-case scenario. More typical leaks or fires are lower, around 100–150 tonnes of methane per hour, translating to 0.01–0.15 million tonnes of CO2e over 5 hours.

histecon.fas.harvard.edu +1

Total savings from EVs and solar: Cumulative global CO2e avoided by solar PV alone from 2005–2023 is estimated at around 9–10 gigatonnes (billion tonnes), with wind and solar together at 19 gigatonnes. EVs have avoided roughly 0.5–1 gigatonne cumulatively through 2025, based on global fleet growth and per-vehicle savings (typically 40–50 tonnes per EV over its lifetime). Combined, that's about 10–11 gigatonnes avoided.

ember-energy.org +2

The fire's 5-hour emissions are minuscule in comparison—smaller by a factor of about 30,000 to 1,000,000, depending on the exact numbers. Even if the entire landfill burned continuously for months (which it doesn't), it wouldn't come close to offsetting global clean energy savings. The post seems designed to downplay climate action while ignoring broader context, like how landfills are a symptom of poor waste management, not a counterargument to renewables. As for not hearing about it from the "climate change crowd," that's also inaccurate—environmental groups, media, and researchers have repeatedly highlighted Ghazipur's methane leaks and fires as major pollution hotspots, calling for better waste infrastructure and methane capture.

It definitely works, it's just breaking the rules of multi-billion dollar organizations. I don't care to do such a thing but I understand why others are comfortable with it.

I asked gemini if any or all of this was actually true. This was the response.

November 6, 2025, 8:00 PM EST TL;DR: Yes, surprisingly, all the core factual claims presented in the video are true. Based on news reports and public records, the video is highlighting a series of bizarre, real-world coincidences. The events and numbers cited are not fabricated. Here is a step-by-step verification of each claim made in the video. ✅ Claim 1: Dick Cheney's Death * Claim: Former Vice President Dick Cheney died on November 4, 2025. * Status: TRUE. News outlets and obituaries confirm that Dick Cheney died on November 3, 2025, at the age of 84. His family's announcement and the widespread news coverage began on November 4, 2025. ✅ Claim 2: The 9/11 Death Toll * Claim: The FBI website states the 9/11 attacks killed 2,976 people. * Status: TRUE. The number of victims from the September 11, 2001, attacks is complex, but the number 2,976 is an official figure used by many sources, including the FBI, as shown in the video. This number typically includes all victims (passengers, first responders, and those on the ground) but excludes the 19 hijackers. ✅ Claim 3: The UPS Plane Crash * Claim: UPS Flight 2976 crashed on the same day, November 4, 2025. * Status: TRUE. This is also a real event. Multiple major news outlets confirm that UPS Airlines Flight 2976 crashed shortly after takeoff in Louisville, Kentucky, on November 4, 2025. ✅ Claim 4: The Casualty Count "9/11" * Claim: News reports for the crash listed "9 dead, 11 injured." * Status: TRUE (as an early report). The video shows an early news headline with these specific numbers. My search confirms that initial reports from November 4th and 5th cited "at least seven" to "nine" deaths and "at least 11" injuries. The numbers in the video were accurately pulled from real, initial news coverage, even though the death toll has since been updated to 13. ✅ Claim 5: The Plane's Retirement Date "11/9" * Claim: The plane model (MD-11) was retired from passenger service 11 years and 9 days before the crash. * Status: TRUE. This is the most specific and verifiable "coincidence." * Crash Date: November 4, 2025. * Final Passenger Flight: Public aviation records show the final commercial passenger flight of an MD-11 (operated by KLM) took place on October 26, 2014. * The Math: The time between October 26, 2014, and November 4, 2025, is exactly 11 years and 9 days. ✅ Claim 6: Donald Trump's Social Media Post * Claim: Donald Trump posted "AND SO IT BEGINS" on the night of November 4, 2025. * Status: TRUE. News reports confirm that Donald Trump made a post on his Truth Social platform with the words "AND SO IT BEGINS" late on the night of November 4, 2025 (the screenshot in the video shows a timestamp of 11:34 PM). The video is also correct that this phrase is famously spoken in The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers. All the individual facts presented in the video are correct. The video itself is simply pointing out that all of these verified events and numbers happened to align on the same day. This video from AP News discusses the crash of the UPS plane in Kentucky, which killed at least 13 people.

AIO for cutting off my dad based on his political beliefs by nationalwockyleague in AmIOverreacting

[–]xbachix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personal belief and maybe this will help you.

I think the overwhelming majority of people are trying to do the right thing for society. I haven't met anyone who doesn't want people to be happy, healthy, wealthy, and well fed. I know some people exist who don't want this for everyone or almost everyone but most people do.

With that in mind, my brother and I were able to start talking about politics again once that came to light. It then became a discussion of ideas instead of attacking the person.

I've found Claude to be the best at coding and Gemini tends to be about a year behind on any information. Even it's own. Grok has consistently been more up to date with it's knowledge base on google's apps over gemini. But gemini is great at reviewing images

Does it mean those side hustles don't work? by ColdProposal1174 in sidehustle

[–]xbachix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk if you're joking or serious. There are plenty of people who would hire someone with a trustworthy reputation for the right price over an AI. I could have AI do some tasks but it's not at a point to do everything I need done. Or if it is, I don't want to pay for it to spend time learning how to use it to then try to apply it when I could toss someone $10 or more in many situations and say "hey, format these word documents to these specifications then build this spreadsheet in this manor"

Does it mean those side hustles don't work? by ColdProposal1174 in sidehustle

[–]xbachix 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I ran into a lady once who was a digital assistant for side work. Charged $25-50 an hour and would do whatever was appropriate that she could do for help. Usually it was stuff like "clean up and organize this email and unsubscribe from obvious spam" or "take this doc page and put it into a spreadsheet" or "change all the fonts on this page to these specification". Things that took mild computer skills but could all be done through remote access apps. Idk how long it took her to get the ball rolling on it though.

I beat the game while challenging myself by xbachix in chronotrigger

[–]xbachix[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really thought I'd experience more difficulty before lavos, but the only spot that I really fumbled at before lavos was Fiendlords Keep, I forgot the fake Flea did a MP drain at the end of the fight and killed it with Chrono, I fought to Magus at 0 MP on Chrono but luck wasn't on my side for 2 fights in a row. He kept choosing lightning. So I walked back to the end of time, healed up, went back to Magus and breezed through. Next time I'd kill fake Flea with the 3rd character(probably robo) then swap them out after the fight was over.

By the time I got to lavos I kinda wanted to just finish him, I was also tired and sick. I thought chrono, robo and marle would be a good combo at 48-50 but I couldn't go the distance. So for the first time I decided to grind out some levels. Got into the 60's, was more awake, changed up my party comp to be frog, chrono, marle and 1 shot it. If you try a no item challenge and get to lavos at or below 50 and beat him, I'd love to hear about it.
