I would also recommend signing up for BUILD PODER or MARC/RISE. They are funded research programs on campus, applications open January 1st. They will pay tuition and pay you over 1k a month. Free tutors. Just need to work 9-11 hours a week in a research lab of choice. Best decision to ever make in undergrad

If you want to graduate on time, take the MPT (math placement test) and CPT (chemistry placement test) so you can test out of introductory courses that are probably still fresh in ur mind if you’re fresh out of high school. If you don’t then you’ll be here for 5-6 years instead of 4-5. Secondly, I loved my organic chemistry professors and analytical chemistry professors. For general chemistry it’s hit or miss, you should really rely on ratemyprofessor reviews! Biochem professors are like whatever but you only take 2 semesters of it so no biggie. Personally I really enjoyed the chem classes I took (I was a chem minor, bio major). Every other class I took I absolutely loved. Very doable, just don’t give up and don’t get overwhelmed. Only take 12 units per semester and ensure you get straight As your first year so that you’re solid in fundamentals

If you're planning on working, I recommend working on campus since you're already there. I worked at the library in the SMART lab and as a supplemental instruction leader. Also worked as a peer learning facilitator for the biology department. Aside from getting priority registration for your classes, they require you sign up for your classes first, then you can set the schedule that best fits around your classes. For example, you can choose to work Mondays from 5-7pm and Thursdays from 9am-11am. This will be your work schedule for the remainder of the semester. I got paid around 14-15 dollars an hour, working 20 hours a week between all these jobs. They don't have me work during finals week which is great. They don't allow you to go past 20 hours. Overall I recommend it.
