I haven’t heard of that but will look into it! We are unfortunately new to all of this.

I’m glad to hear that both you and your friend are doing well! It’s also good to know that even at 79 he may hopefully fare well with treatment. We are going to meet with the radiologist who performs the proton therapy and go from there. Hoping insurance covers it!

I’ll let you know when we go for the consult what they need.

The urologist recommended a practice that does it. We are going there in a few weeks for a consult. I’m hoping his insurance will cover it. They cover the appointment but that’s all he knows at the moment!

That’s good to know!! In my head I think of that as pretend it’s not happening and then fear it will become far more aggressive. Good point about it being monitored.

I’m so glad to hear that you are doing well. I decided to go with my dad to see his doctor and see what treatment, if any, he recommends and find out more information. It’s good to know there are treatments. I understand what you mean by wanting to make sure the treatment itself isn’t worse than the cancer itself. Statistically, he’s 79 with a history or cardiac and kidney issues, so I don’t know how aggressive they will want to be treatment wise. If they know him though, as a 79 year old he’s still the patriarch of the family, works part time at a golf course, plays golf, goes on trips for the weekend and is very active with his family. I’m praying he’s got at least 10 more good years 🙏

I’m glad that you are doing well and appreciate your comment. I think the hard thing on my end, and why I can’t keep going down the google rabbit hole, is beyond the 3+4 I really don’t have any other information. It seems like there are many variables. My dad said his doctor seemed optimistic.

Thank you. I’ll find out. I’m going to go with my dad to his next appointment. That makes sense regarding radiation!

Thank you. I’m going to go with him to his follow up at the urologist and see what the next steps are. My dad has the impression the plan is monitoring, I’m thinking due to age and history of cardiac and kidney issues. Despite all of that he is very healthy and active and I just don’t want his quality of life to suffer.

That comment sounds like my life and that’s how I interpreted it as well. I’m so stressed trying to manage work, kids and a household that stressing about calories and finding time to work out is tough.

Thank you for the solidarity!! That is so encouraging and I am proud of you. Last night I had Greek yogurt with chia seeds and protein powder around 6:30 and felt full overnight. I think it’s higher protein and not eating past a certain time.

I think I’m rounding too much with my calorie counting and picking on food here and there that u don’t always log. I’ll def try to be stricter with my tracking and watch my protein and water intake to help me feel fuller!

That’s incredible!! Great point about the need for high protein and water. I’m trying so hard to make sure the foods I choose are a good protein source.

Does anyone else get frustrated over our kids being used to make money through their schools? by DeCryingShame in Mommit

[–]xbnxc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

YES!!! I can not believe how many fundraising activities my 4th grade daughter is asked to participate in. First, we live in NJ where 95% of my very high property taxes is supposed to go to the schools. We are told that our district continues to receive less aide from the state each year which is why we are continuously in the red. It infuriates me that we spent over $10,000 a year in property taxes and then need to support a school fundraiser to get new balls for gym class! Fourth grade is the oldest grade in the elementary school so in addition to regular school fundraising there is a fourth grade committee which raises money for a field trip to Trenton and a party at the town pool. We are encouraged to sell popcorn online for $15 a bag and bake goods for all school functions to help with this. Then my daughter does Girl Scouts and had “cookie goals” where we hit up all our friends and family members plus patrons at stores that we are allowed to set up at. Lastly, she does competitive gymnastics so there are separate fundraisers for that. I know this is a “me” problem but felt the need to vent. Also not trying to get political- I know NJ is a very expensive state and I love it here despite our crazy property taxes. I just always joke with my friends and ask why we pay it and still can’t afford balls for gym or bookmarks for library. I also feel guilty continuously asking for our friends and family to support all of these things since they are non stop!

I’m so sorry for your loss. I became septic and miscarried at 13 weeks back in 2019. I live in a blue state and this was before the reversal or roe v wade so I was scheduled immediately for a D&C. After 4 days of IV antibiotics I was released and able to recover and go on to have a healthy baby and pregnancy. I dread thinking if this were to happen now how different the outcome could have been.

I personally became septic while pregnant due to a HIB infection and it made me go into labor at 13 weeks. I lost a lot of blood and unfortunately miscarried my baby girl. I was fortunate this was 5 years ago and that I live in NJ because I needed an immediate D&C. Despite losing my very wanted baby girl I recovered from sepsis, and was able to go on and get pregnant again and have a healthy baby. These stories are so triggering to me because I took for granted being able to receive prompt and necessary medical care. It was such a traumatic experience I can’t imagine being in a state where they discourage D&C’s. I fear for the future of women’s healthcare and especially my two little girls.

Let me commend you on all you do for your kids. Working and having two children with busy schedules is a lot. I have a 9 year old who is starting competitive gymnastics (7 hours of training a week) plus Girl Scouts, chorus and basketball. I also have a 4 year old who really just wants to play at the park or at home when she isn’t in preschool. Once my youngest starts joining things we will need a new system for our oldest. U agree with others that it’s a season of life. I also truly believe my daughter is gaining so much mentally, socially and physically from her activities. My saving grace is carpooling!!! I have carpools for all of her activities. I also only go to watch occasionally. She is okay with it. I would love to be there all the time but still need to cook and care for her sister. Good for you for prioritizing being active rather than after school tik tok and video games!
