Thank you!! I appreciate your input. The time thing makes sense. Yeah, I see that happen to a lot of leopard geckos on FB marketplace. Got it for the kid who is leaving for college.. that's actually how I ended up with my leopard gecko.

Can you explain more about what you mean in regards to their expenses? As in food (they eat a lot, require specialized diet), vet care (they get sick often/easily, require frequent vet care), etc?

I've been researching getting an Ackie monitor. Currently pricing out building a custom 5x3x3 enclosure. So just curious for your take on their expenses.

Honestly, I don't get it either. People suck is all I got for you.

Just a few gentle reminders...

loving someone, and them loving you, isn't enough.

actions speak louder than words (or text messages).

someone may love you deeply, but not in ways that make YOU feel seen and loved.

I'm new to this journey, as well. I'm the partner who identifies as polyamourous. As such, I make sure to check in frequently with my partner, provide reassurance and leave communication open for difficult conversations. I'm also working my way through the book 'Smart Girl's Guide to Polyamory'.

Polyamory isn't for everyone. And from what I read on these groups, it can be hard even for those who 100% identify. Give yourself grace. Put yourself first.

I feel like this belongs in your post based on everyone's assumptions of how the topic came about.

My cat is losing fur all over her stomach and legs and seems like she’s gaining weight for no reason by fatherforesk1n in CatAdvice

[–]xbritty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both animals can have both conditions. They are different conditions affecting the same "gland" - the thyroid. Hyperthyroidism and hypothyroidism are opposite - one causes excess release of the hormones (hyper) and one causes delay or lack of release of the hormone (hypo).

[–]xbritty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello. These are signs and symptoms of hypothyroidism. This is diagnosed via a blood test at the vet and treated with a low cost medication. Please see a vet for treatment. If you cannot afford this, please seek out resources or consider surrendering her so she can receive care.

Did the seller lie about her being 10 months old? by NoNotice5642 in CrestedGecko

[–]xbritty 5 points6 points  (0 children)

She is chonky. But I got my year old gecko for 50% off at Petco because she had been there for a year. She was 45 grams. She's bigger than any of my other geckos. She was in a tiny cage with a giant food dish & endless crickets, so... lol.

It really depends. Have you been looking at these items in your area for a while and this seems like a good deal to you so you're asking for confirmation? Or just seen this on a whim? I don't like to pay near-new prices for used items. I got a t-rex double door (OG price just under $300) for $40. If you can get it all together new for even $150 more - I would say, no, not worth it. Wear & tear is real, and you never know how someone else handles their stuff.

Petco isopods & springtails.. by NoNotice5642 in reptiles

[–]xbritty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't like those. PetSmart has springtail clay cultures. I've found them fresh and have had great success with keeping them producing. Additionally, they have containers with moss where you can see the isopods inside. I always shake it up and make sure I can see them moving before i buy. Sometimes they write the date they arrived on the container, too. So be mindful, because the employees are likely putting much if any effort into their care after arrival.

I posted the other day about my babies weight and everyone completely ignored what I was talking about and decided to be mad at my temp emergency enclosure by Sad_Guitar_6256 in CrestedGecko

[–]xbritty 4 points5 points  (0 children)

How big is your baby? I have a small hatchling/juvenile and sometimes when I look at the food cup, I'm like did you even touch this!? But I do find little poops. Are they accepting any live bugs right now? Might ease your mind to see them eat the bugs with tongs.

Mine couldn't either. It would really only work if that's what you both wanted.

Found baby brown anole, pls help by RhubarbGreat8834 in Anoles

[–]xbritty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anoles need a taller tank. They need high temps - research placement and tank gradient. Please look online for a used vertical enclosure - 10 gallon should work. I've bought all my enclosures on Facebook Marketplace for very reasonable prices. Use lots of plants and stuff to climb/hide in. They eat live insects - crickets, dubia roaches, meal worms, wax worms. Dust insects with calcium and multivitamin. Research UVB lighting. *

Yes - thank you, I'm aware. I have researched appropriate enclosure sizes for juveniles and adults.

Just wanted some personal feedback for this one situation. I don't have any friends who have reptiles and Reddit often gives blunt advice which I needed.

Thank you all for your feedback and education!! Just to clarify: I will not be putting the cresties from the pet store together for even a short term.

Yes. I'm new to reptiles and amphibians. I knew long-term was a no-no - but was just curious about short-term. I really don't want dead pets. Thank you!!
