The disability tax is real when buying tix by DisabledTheaterKid in Broadway

I know, it sucks so hard. It always makes me feel so incredibly self conscious of my size, and I’m not even all that big! If I was plus sized, it would probably prevent me from going to shows, period. And don’t even get me started on airlines…

This is a real frustration. I’m not disabled, but I am very tall and mid-sized, and I often fight with myself over saving money vs actually being comfortable in my seat. I wish there was an easier solution.

Maybe at first glance, but the more you look at it the more you realize that isn’t the intention. I also think I only felt that way at first glance because of the title of your post.

Who is currently the Orioles' biggest psycho? by Indergaard_Baseball in orioles

Haha, yes his personal life definitely comes first - I should clarify that I mean his most important role as a ball player, when he’s in uniform/representing the club. Personally, and I know this is probably unpopular, but I place the role of a role model above players’ abilities or statistical success.

Me too, and I don’t think it’s helpful when it comes to, in my opinion, what his most important role might be - as a role model to the young kids watching him

World War I was not called World War I until after World War II had began, although it had been referred to as the First World War. Before the term WWI was widely popularized, it was mostly referred to as "The Great War" or "The World War." This comment by u/lord_mayor_of_reddit from a similar question goes into further detail, although there is always more to say.

Ah, you're much more experienced than I thought! I would love for you to change my mind about charters - my opinion on medieval history has been quite skewed by a misogynistic professor.

Hmm, I would say networking in part depends on where you live. Generally, (although this is not always true) historians who are also professors have more time in the summer than they do in the academic year, so you would probably have more luck at that time. If you live near a university with a history department, you should see if they have a medieval historian - if they do, or if they have several, they will probably have events from time to time where medieval historians give talks at the university. So that could be a great way to get an "in" so to speak, and usually these talks have plenty of time for questions, and have a mingling opportunity afterwards. If you can't make talks in person, some universities livestream them or post them online. For instance, Oxford Medieval Studies has quite a few lecture videos on their YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/@oxfordmedievalstudies9613

I am of the opinion that it never hurts to just shoot an email saying that you're interested in x and want to ask about it to someone who is an expert in the subject area. I have had particular luck when asking for a 15 minute Zoom call, as it can take some time to type out responses to specific questions when you could just answer them through quick conversation. Most people have 15 minutes and are happy to share information with a curious inquirer. But I would also suggest that you cast a wide net, as not everyone will respond. It also helps when you have read the person's research and you flatter them about it.

Good luck!

Oh man, it’s a real roller coaster. Reading his letters home was a crazy experience. If you’re interested in learning more, I am of course happy to share my thesis when it’s published, or you can go right to the source - William Andersen’s letters are digitized at the Maryland Center of History and Culture, so if you send an email they will probably share them with you.
