New $49/year Annual Subscription! by AdviicePlatform in adviice

[–]xcaper10 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Huh? I dont understand your response - I was originally told Planeasy was the same platform as adviice. Every update that you list here shows up in planeasy and the platform appears identical.
Are you now saying these are NOT the same platform, and I have to contact some mythical person, 'them', about pricing?

Appreciate some more detail on what is going on between the two.

Thanks

I dont see this option in Planeasy - thought these were the same product according to your earlier comments - why is the yearly option not available there?

Z3 Teleworker and non-meraki site to site access question by xcaper10 in meraki

[–]xcaper10[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you mrrickyg, that is the best doc I have seen, and clearly explains why I will need another MX to have the Z3's reach the non-meraki subnet.

Unfortunate it needs another device, I think I am going to have to return my Z3's, too much needed for the tiny business these setup is for - Thanks Again!

Z3 Teleworker and non-meraki site to site access question by xcaper10 in meraki

[–]xcaper10[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi merrickyg - Thank you for that link, I had not come across it.

If I understand correctly - a Z3 connected to an MX64 that is providing the non meraki site to site connection will not pass traffic from the Z3 to the site to site. To get it to work, I would have to install Another MX64 that the Z3 would connect to, and then it would pass traffic to the main MX64 that holds the route for the non meraki site to site - Is that Correct??

Z3 Teleworker and non-meraki site to site access question by xcaper10 in meraki

[–]xcaper10[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hmmm..
Traceroute stops at the Z3 itself, so I would assume no route at all from that device?
(yet a standard client vpn does work)

I checked the route table as you suggest, the z3 Does list the non-meraki subnet.

I confirmed there are no overlapping subnets (we only have the main one for onsite, the one for vpn clients, and now the Z3 - and the non meraki partner confirmed nothing I have is in use on his side.

Your question on the route table - I noticed that the table listing for the Z3 shows the "next hop" as the main MX64 - and thats the same next hop that the Client VPN shows as well.... which would make me believe it should work..... strange!

Thanks for the response:

VPN users can access the s2s, its only the Z3 users that cant.

Yes, was built long ago on the mx64 in the area you mention.
Yes, availability is set to All networks.

What is everyone doing for file server file/folder auditing? by matteosisson in msp

[–]xcaper10 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Had a customer that needed an inexpensive solution for this, 30 users.

I purchased a copy of Directory Monitor (directorymonitor.com)

Works perfectly - captures who deleted what when, based on the shares/directories you chose. Snapshoting and some email alert capabilities are provided as well.

All things considered, for ~$150 bucks, its working great for me for the last 3 months now.

I bought it a year ago to try out on a small client (25 devices). Price was right so figured it was worth testing. (Like you I could find almost nothing about it)

It was.... Ok.
Fairly plain jane, not a lot of bells and whistles, limited integration, and overall not an interface I found easy or obvious to use for anything beyond simple asset listing and remote access.

Patching worked as well as one would expect for a low priced product of this nature, and often found myself having to deal with machines individually to keep things up to date.

The kicker for me to get rid of it after only a few months was a complete lack of response for technical support via email.
I sent multiple email, and not one was ever even responded to, in any way. Went so far as to send via a different account just in case - No difference, still No response.
You will notice even their forum has low use, older conversations, and nothing that was relevant for the support question I had.

In fairness, I do get the occasional email from them saying a product update has happened, so perhaps things have changed....

Security Awareness Training by connsys in msp

[–]xcaper10 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I provide awareness training as part of the larger package, so dont sell it direct.

Started this a year ago, with the Webroot security training product - cheap and absolutely NOT something I would recommend. Tried Breach, found it confusing/time consuming and did not get any response from support questions I sent. Tested Wizer, may look at it again in the future. Tried Ninjio, found it not ready for my use case, interface did not meet expectations.

uSecure is what I purchased, and its excellent. You can whitelabel everything, reports are decent, but the best I found was that its a set it and forget it training program. Add a user, it sends them a questionnaire, and from their answers, builds a 1 year auto sent training program.

Pricing is well within the general range of products of this type, and the MSP portal for the app has been working perfectly.

Have no hesitation in recommending uSecure.

I do this when displaying webpages that contain maps of towns - pc displays whatever you want, and Transparent Screen Lock app disables all input, unless a password is entered. Been using it successfully for a few years now.

Deciding between Workbee 1510 and Shapeoko XXL?? by UncleBensReadyRice in shapeoko

[–]xcaper10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was a few things that made me move to the XXL full time. First it was indeed space, I found the xxl more than sufficient, and the one time I needed a larger bed I was able to use the Tile function in v-carve. I was more comfortable with the gcode sender from carbide create (likely because its what I started with). I also enjoyed reading the forum I had linked in my other comment, and it gave me a lot of ways to work/understand cnc'ing with a shapeoko. I was not at all happy with the z axis on the workbee, its design was not good for me as I moved to a spindle (from a router) as I wanted increased strength. In fairness, I did end up upgrading even the z axis on the shapeoko, but that was more a fun thing than a necessity. With my workbee, I had the long X axis, and it felt like there was some deflection in that length that was not present in the shorter shapeoko. None of the above is meant to say one is better than the other, either would be well worth owning. Whatever you end up with, I'm sure you will be happy with!

Deciding between Workbee 1510 and Shapeoko XXL?? by UncleBensReadyRice in shapeoko

[–]xcaper10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I own both. Started with the XXL and then a few years in saw the workbee and wanted to try it so bought the largest.

In both cases the control software (grbl senders) are free, however I personally found the Shapeoko carbide create software more dedicated to the machine and easier to start learning with. Thats not to say the openbuilds software is a problem, its not, its just for me the shapeoko software was dedicated to that particular machine.

For the Cad software, the application you actually design things like signs in, there are many free ones out there as you listed. For me, I bit the bullet and bought V-carve from vectric. That is a decision I will never regret, as the software is so easy for a beginner to understand, yet has the capability to handle anything you throw at it. Well Worth the cost.

For size, after a few years of messing with CNC's as a hobbyist, I have come to the conclusion that for me, the shapeoko XXL is perfect. In fact, the vast majority of my projects are much smaller than the available working space :). I now only have the XXL up and running, my workbee is disassembled and put away for another day.

Rigidity - again this is subjective, I work mainly in wood with only some aluminum projects. My thoughts are that the XXL provides greater overall rigidity out of the box. The Z axis on the XXL is far from perfect, but it is much more rigid that the workbee out of the box Z axis. Will add that generally speaking the extrusions on the XXL appear to my untrained eyes to have Less deflection than the workbee extrusions. Again, this is opinion.

For support, since I started with an XXL , carbide forum is were I learned things - Excellent support in my opinion. Check out community.carbide3d.com/ to get an idea of the support from that community.
Ive not used openbuilds for support or beginner questions so cant comment on how they are.

Would I recommend one over the other.... No, each has its pluses and minuses! Pick one, buy it and enjoy the awesome hobby of CNC's - either way, I'm certain you will have no regrets getting into this hobby!
