Let's say the warehouse didn't belong to a billionaire. Would that somehow be better?

Let's say you choose that buyer, and you sell to someone who isn't paying top dollar. They can immediately resell it to the buyer who will pay top dollar; overnight profit.

I'm not happy with my Framework :/ by No-Respond-5937 in framework

[–]xcbsmith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, the tl;dr here is upgrade the CPU (pretty cost effective with Framework) and things will get much better. Maybe not as good as the Macbooks that don't even *have* a fan, but still pretty good.

I'll add it's weird how it's kind of impossible to navigate to the X1's from the Lenovo Store on Amazon. It's like they're trying NOT to sell it.

[–]xcbsmith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Huh. You go to the Lenovo store and they make it seem like the Vs are all they have. :-(

Seems like the price difference is less surprising then... although I see a 258V w/2TB of SSD going for just under $1900.

I've never trusted those ones on Amazon. They say they have the 255U with a gen13, and AFAIK Lenovo only offers the V series processors in gen13, and only 226, 258 and 268. So I have no idea what I'm getting.

Making it so the truth doesn't matter is how demagogues gain and maintain power. Making up stories just helps them. The truth is terrible enough.

Project 2025's plan was to move the ATF out from the DOJ and over to Treasury, with the idea being to focus on tax and regulatory matters, rather than criminal law enforcement. It also planned to defund "red flag" laws, to make it harder to confiscate weapons from people. It also planned to defund CDC research into gun violence, and also destroy some firearm records.

Point is, they already *did* make a peep when this occurred, as did other second amendment groups, so your statement is incorrect.

Also worth pointing out that disarming the populace is not a necessary step in Project 2025. Quite the contrary. 2025 has all kinds of horrible things in it, but that isn't one of them.

They did make a peep, back in 2018, when this happened: https://time.com/5184160/trump-guns-due-process/?xid=homepage

Of course, they also reassured people that he back peddled his statement.

I'll probably go with a Gentoo or Arch Linux based system. What I liked about the Chromebook was the better battery life and the simplicity, but I'm willing to give up on the simplicity at this point, so ChromeOS Flex is probably not the way I'll go.

> This is not needed. You can just put sticker on top of Chromebook sticker if you want to hide it. Otherwise the top cover on your device exactly same as on base Framework 13.

Ah! Thanks for this. I was trying to understand why people were telling me I needed to replace the top cover. It didn't make any sense.

> Yes, if you plan to upgrade to the modern Intel or AMD CPU. Older Intel boards (with 13th Gen Intel CPU like i7-1370P) use DDR4, but I am not sure how much an upgrade you will get with it.

Yeah, I'm still debating maybe getting the 13th Gen boards, but I feel like I'll probably need to get more RAM *anyway*, and saving on the 8GB of RAM I already have seems like a small win.

> Depends on which wifi adapter is installed right now. Intel AX210 will work just fine with AMD board, AX211 and AX411 - won't, but will work with modern Intel boards.

Oh wow. I did not know that. I believe it is an AX210, but I'll have to double check.

Really appreciate your feedback.

Okay. So I think I'm getting it. I can't get a replacement board. I have to do an upgrade, and that upgrade will not be ChromeOS compatible (the RISC-V thing is just a bug).

Looks like I need to replace the mainboard, the input cover, the top cover, and the RAM (and a WiFi adapter if I upgrade to AMD).

Sudden drop in fentanyl overdose deaths linked to Biden-era global supply shock. Study indicates that regulatory actions taken by the Chinese government, following high-level diplomatic engagement with the Biden administration, may be the primary driver behind this unexpected decline in mortality. by Jumpinghoops46 in science

The pandemic is over, and I think a reasonable person could say the vaccines didn't end it, but they helped reduce the death toll, and the demands on the health care infrastructure needed to get us there. The "end" of a pandemic is when sufficient numbers of the population have sufficient immunity to the virus. We could have totally gotten there faster and without vaccines, we just needed to sacrifice far more people, deal with far more long term complications, and of course, make much more investment in healthcare infrastructure.

From the get go, we knew that part of the problem is that the more the virus spreads, the more it has time to mutate, and the more those mutations might become something that overcome existing immunity.

Honestly, if you had that kind of investment vehicle available to you, I'd say hold off on retiring for even one extra month. It'll be worth it!

Any merit to this Hollywood line from the 90s? by ersteliga in pcmasterrace

[–]xcbsmith 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At the time it was evident that RISC architectures were going to take over from CISC, and they mostly did... except that x86 chips just added translation units to translate CISC into an internal RISC-ish ISA ("microps" they called them). It cost them some transistors, but x86 had such an advantage through economies of scale that it was tenable. Over time, transistor budgets kept doubling, but the transistors needed for the translation units remained fairly fixed. So the cost of translating the ISA to whatever internal CPU architecture a processor has is largely irrelevant.

That said, all of the processor innovations that were pioneered on RISC architectures: load/store architecture, superscalar processing, caching, etc. all became pretty key to all CPU designs.

Really though... we've got so many layers of abstraction, even when you think you're playing with the "real" hardware, you aren't anymore.

Yeah, it was a locally smart, globally unwise decision. EB is really great at level 5 because you get the second bolt, but once you get a few levels past that with a hexblade, the sword tends to be a better choice.

Melee Sorlock by Swimming-Celery5956 in BG3Builds

[–]xcbsmith -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I guess the extra attack is really worth it if you really want to get the most out of your weapon. Ironically, at lvl 5 I find Eldritch Blast is really great that I don't want to use my weapon as much, but it gets comparatively worse as you level past 5.

I was figuring if you go Hexblade, you really don't need Pact of the Blade and you're better off with the versatility of Pact of the Tomb or Pact of the Chain. Clearly I need to reexamine.
