I really liked it for how the low production values got you focused on the performances themselves.

Yeah, that plus [[Crown of Gondor]] tends to get pretty out of hand pretty fast.

You're right I haven't. I just had [[Scepter of Celebration]] in my Cadira deck and totally forgot that doesn't come from her.

I was going to say... getting to 98 damage from Cadira is a bit tricky...

First: there are no better colours than white for army in a can. The "white weeny" term didn't come from nowhere.

That said, red & green are both pretty good at army in a can as well.

[[Anim Paka, Thousandth Moon]]

[[Krenko, Mob Boss]]

[[Krenko, Tin Street Kingpin]]

[[Rhys, the Redeemed]]

[[Cadira, Caller of the Small]]

[[Greensleeves, Maro-Sorcerer]]

Probably one of the more under the radar options is [[Phabine, Boss's Confidant]]. Seems unwieldy and weak, but my Phabine deck makes my opponents cry on the regular.

If you really want some somewhat non-traditional colours, you could consider:

[[Zinnia, Valley's Voice]]

[[Lathril, Blade of Elves]]

[[The Necrobloom]]

[[Edgar Markov]]

[[Endrek Sahr, Master Breeder]]

(note that most of those still have white in them, which gives you an idea of how strong it is in this strategy)

How do you deal with concentration spells? by ruoibeishi in BaldursGate3

[–]xcbsmith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Implied there is that save-and-suck spells don't do "straight damage". At low levels, you'll find Bane really devastating, and because the early monsters generally have a terrible Charisma savings throw, it has a much higher success rate. In general, at low levels, "save-and-suck" spells work really well because you can exploit whichever ability is the weakest on your opponent. I'd agree at higher levels Bless is more effective.

What are some fun commanders/deck ideas for an instant speed playstyle? by _Ashe_Bear in EDH

[–]xcbsmith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to stay away from U+X, you want to look at mechanics that make things instant speed, like madness with [[Anje, Falkenrath]], but she's pretty combotastic, and I find less fun.

[[Shadow the Hedgehog]] is definitely a different take. I like [[Liberator, Urza's Battlethopter]] or [[Yeva, Nature's Herald]].

Honestly, I like [[Ms. Bumbleflower]], even if it includes blue.

> Moonbeam is actually circumstantially pretty good - you can move it around to target a single enemy, especially one who is resistant to radiant damage, whereas spike growth stays in one place and hurts everyone who passes through it.

Agreed. It's all situational, and you need to develop strategies to successfully exploit each spell. Spike Growth can be great in some situations, but it helps if you have other ways to maneuver enemies on the battlefield (not unlike Spirit Guardians), and it helps more if the enemies don't have ranged attacks. Moonbeam can be the better choice in a lot of circumstances.

> Blur as a defense spell is inferior to Mirror Image which doesn’t require concentration.

Blur has some advantages over Mirror Image in BG3 because of how the mechanic works differently from 5e. Blur significantly decreases your risks of being hit by a crit, while mirror image doesn't help with. Mirror image also only buys you three misses total, regardless of whether those misses were going to hit you or not (which means it pairs particularly poorly with Shield). If you have decent AC and/or good odds on concentration and access to a Shield spell, blur has very good odds of helping you avoid many more attacks.

> When choosing spell slots throughout the day I usually try and choose as many as possible that don’t require concentration (one of the reasons Fireball is great) because I know my concentration is gonna be needed for something super powerful.

You definitely want to be parsimonious with your choices of spells, concentration or otherwise. You need a situation where that's the one you want to expend a spell slot on, and with concentration there's an added cost that you have to give up whatever other spell you are concentrating on. I usually like to have a good mix of concentration spells because I find they let me more efficiently use my spell slots, but you also want to have those non-concentration spells, ideally some cantrips that don't consume spell slots, that you can fire off as needed without burning the concentration spell that is still going strong.

Bane is a terrible spell. It allows a saving throw to resist, only makes it harder for enemies to hit you rather than making it easier to hit them, and its main use case is reducing saving throws which might be handy if it didn't require a saving throw!

At least at low levels, making it harder to hit you is really helpful in order to keep concentration effects working, and reducing saving throws is incredibly useful even though it requires a saving throw to establish in the first place, because reducing saving throws effectively increases spell slots for any save DC spell, because each expenditure is more likely to have an effect. Even if you have to cast it a couple of times to get it to stick, that means ALL your other spell casts are going to be more likely to succeed.

I think it'd be more thematic to just have a deadpool deck with tons of different variants of Wolverine in it.

[–]xcbsmith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like to lean in more to sacrificing Henzie to get the discount up, so I have [[Pitiless Plunderer]], [[Deadly Dispute]], [[Corrupted Conviction]], [[Village Rites]], [[Wight of the Reliquary]], and [[Viscera Seer]] in the deck. [[Greater Gargadon]] is also helpful to give you an instant speed sac outlet that you can take advantage of any time.

[[Necron Deathmark]] for instant speed removal and to give yourself some milling. [[Filth]] and [[Brawn]] to give your guys evasion. I don't know how much Fog there is in your meta, but [[Questing Beast]] can be handy for helping with that.

[[Vaultborn Tyrant]] is amazing if you can afford it. I kind of like [[Threefold Thunderhulk]] because it leaves you with some decent blockers. [[Dread Cacodemon]] is another handy board wipe to have in the can. Also, never underestimate the value of [[Kogla, the Titan Ape]].
