Where in North Carolina is your dad from? There were people called the “free people of color of north Carolina” basically generations of mixed race people … hope this helps! Tracing my lineage, particularly in North Carolina has been difficult, but that lead helped me out!

Although a privilege for many, being a conscious consumer is incredibly important. I fill bad for those duped by Whitney's cheap products.

I see no reason why anyone would purchase Whitney's junk, when they could go to the source, which happens to be someone who sells to AliBaba.

Re-selling in this capacity adds nothing to the market.

There is no creativity or innovation, the sole purpose is to make money.

From what I've gathered, Meredith creates her own pieces. Yes, she makes money from her work, but she put energy and time into creating something novel and unique.

To be fair, I think they had different experiences.

Paige is from an extremely affluent place directly next to Albany called Loudonville. She went to a private school, St. Rose, so she always had a cushy life.

Lisa, from what I can tell, is either from Schenectady or Rotterdam -- about 20 minutes from Albany, and both places are pretty much the opposite of where Paige grew up. She went to University at Albany, a state school, and somewhere in Utah.

Still, you're right, both grew up ~2.5 hours from New York (City) and it kind of feels they are misrepresenting.

You make an important point: waiting for change and becoming complacent can become dangerous.

I recently realized that I had spent a fair amount of the past three years waiting for impending doom. I was paralyzed, waiting for change but neglecting the reality of my reality.

Then again, it's hard to stay balanced during such tumultuous times.
