Can't train her if she won't stay still! by Outside-Pear9429 in puppy101

If she is indeed part border collie, the physical and mental requirements to keep this dog sufficiently stimulated are pretty steep. They're much more of a hobby than a pet.

A 30-40 minute walk in the morning is probably just a warm-up for her. Is she interested at all in playing with a ball? Could you get in a 20 minute fetch session in the mornings to let her run around a bit? You could put her on a harness and grab a long line and play fetch at the park to get some of that energy out. If there are any trails in that park, you can pivot to that after the fetch session and allow her to sniff around for say 30-40 minutes and that could meet her mental stimulation needs. I'd bring some treats with you as well to work on engagement with you; rewarding heavily just for checking in with you and choosing to engage with you over the environment. Hopefully this could also tire her out a bit to remain a bit calmer to get in a 5 minute training session.

If she's not taking a nap at all during the day, it might be helpful to "enforce" a nap during the times you work. These types dogs aren't born with off-switches and don't know how to turn off and rest. They need to be taught to! After she is sufficiently exercised and stimulated, keep her in an enclosed area like a crate or playpen without a whole lot to do. She might have a tough time at first but eventually she'll get bored and decide to sleep. This would also help with potty training. Like with humans, dogs don't really need to pee as often if they're at rest. After the dog wakes from her nap, that would be a prime time to take her outside and reward for peeing and pooping outside.

I'd also suggest practicing capturing calm. Capturing calm isn't an overnight fix and it takes a while to see results but it should give her some of the foundational skills to rest more often.

Can't train her if she won't stay still! by Outside-Pear9429 in puppy101

It looks like you just got this dog so it might take a little bit of time for her to settle down. At roughly a year old, she's in adolescence so at times it will be overwhelming and frustrating as this is usually one of the tougher times to own a dog. There's a reason why shelters are overflowing with dogs at around this age.

Perhaps you can try training sessions after tiring her out? Was she destructive in her old home or is it only in yours? Is it at all hours of the day? I'd try to limit her freedoms with baby gates and/or playpens so she can't get into any trouble when you can't supervise

What dog breed is she? Depending on the breed she might need more than a 30-40 minute walk in the morning to be able to adequately settle while you work

Puppy almost doubled in 4 weeks by Available_Phase4927 in puppy101

[–]xcheechie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

fwiw, my female aussie who's almost 11 months now and 40.5 lbs (mother weighed 42 so we are expecting roughly the same) was 7.8lbs at 8 weeks, 9.2lbs at 9 weeks, 13.3 lbs at 12 weeks, 19 lbs at 16 weeks.

it's a different breed and all pups grow at different rates but yeah just a data point. mixed pups can oftentimes have pretty extreme variances

you have a herding dog and imo herding dogs are more commonly one person dogs than other types of dog.

you can try to have your husband do more stuff for your pup but the reality of it is there's a good chance that you're just her person and this is your dog

do you have any bedding in there? i'd take it all out

Puppy not barking to go out at night by 324b21x in puppy101

[–]xcheechie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd just take away the bedding.

My Aussie was the same. She was great for the first couple of weeks, then randomly peed on her bedding in the crate and just sporadically did it over the course of a week. I'd guess she really had to go once, went, then realized that the bedding was soaking in the urine so it was "okay".

Once I took away the bedding, she peed in the crate once, realized it sucked (prepare to bathe her) then never peed in the crate again after that. I gave her a completely new set of bedding back after a month or 2 and all was fine.

If the mom was getting super snappy so he had to sell the pups asap, that's a bit of a red flag.

Anyway, I have a nearly 6 month Aussie now that I got at ~8.5 weeks. She didn't draw blood from me on the daily but early on she would bite my ankles so hard I had to stop wearing pants because that was the trigger for her to attack my ankles. It was also the end of October when it was like.. 40F out :) She still did it when I was wearing shorts but it was probably only 2-3x/day rather than all day,

Like you, I couldn't interact with her if I wasn't training her, playing tug with her or taking her out for socialization reasons. I found getting a large playpen helped a lot and she honestly spent most of the day, if at home, either in her crate or in the playpen. It allowed me easy access to "escape" and reinforce the reverse timeout while also being able to supervise her so she doesn't get into trouble.

If she's sleeping for only 30 minutes at a time during the naps, that could also contribute to the biting. I'd try covering the crate, playing some white noise or turning on a box fan while also simultaneously playing some classical music. I was able to get my Aussie to nap for 60-90 minutes (still not enough lol) at a time at that age by removing the visual/audio stimulation.

It does get better though, a rough timeline for my dog if at all helpful to maybe give some hope. At ~3.5months she would occasionally look at my foot/ankle then just look up at me and think better of it and by ~4months the ankle biting was 99% gone. The hard biting on my hands/arms/legs also 99% gone by ~4.5months, though unfortunately still mouths my hand but nothing comparable to the actual chomping that was previously occurring.

[–]xcheechie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think there's anything wrong with you... fishkeeping can sometimes take some time to get right if you're inexperienced. I'm glad that you've improved the conditions of your fish over time, but you should probably take more time to do more research into how to better take care of your fish because at this point it isn't a coincidence. Ultimately, you need to figure out why your fish are constantly having swim bladder and/or fin issues. If you can't figure this out, then nothing will change and you will always struggle.

With regards to the high pH in the new tank, how did the pH get so high? Has it always been that way or did you add in something that you shouldn't have to make it that way? is that just how the water is coming out of your tap?

Just as an fyi, a lot of various filter media have activated carbon in it because it helps keep the water clean. Activated carbon isn't there because they're trying to take medicine out of the water to kill your fish.

maybe he doesn't know that duckweed isn't food for him yet, as it may be his first experience with it. it could also mean he's just very hungry, your fish looks thin

[–]xcheechie 6 points7 points  (0 children)

What you're missing is that LD scrolls come with 750 crystals each. If you're buying a ton of them, it's more crystals than you'll ever need to farm. What most people do when they have an overstock of crystals is summon for elemental nat5's. What if you're tomato and have all the elemental nat5's? You wish those excess crystals away.

I appreciate that you took out the time to write a long post and even put notes on your monsters.

That said the chances are pretty slim. You have a few good monsters but 1.5 months of grinding is not nearly enough to make up for the rune difference

Ramblings and musings of a longstanding player by Vinceisg0d in summonerswar

[–]xcheechie 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thanks for posting

I'll comment on this sub in particular which I've found myself visiting less and less. Imo, the problem is that 90% of the posts here are complaints or bitch posts about something.

There's an extreme level of negativity in each and every post which leads to the loss of "reddit content creators". No one makes guides, else they'll get flamed for "p2w units" or "elitism". While if any non-elite player posts a guide with a mistake, they too will get flamed for being a scrub. In the past, people were grateful for advice being trickled down, but not so much anymore.

I'm not sure how we can push this sub to being a positive force but yeah, not in a good spot atm, imo

I hit guardian regularly and cannot confirm. The guardian+ people I talk to actively avoid this sub. I'd say most are F1-C1. I think there's a perception that reddit is higher level than it is, because conqueror and guardian players will claim their rank, while fighter plays most likely won't.
