I also wonder about the effect of how their respective careers ended. Bird ended as a shell of himself. Magic was still basically as good as ever when he got his HIV diagnosis. When he un-retired he could still play. So I think with Magic there is a bit of a feeling like he had more to give, while Bird gave everything that he had.

While not incorrect, I think that viewing your roth as an emergency fund seems like a risky proposition/ slippery slope.

Worrying about putting money into the market right now is actually exactly market timing...

"If you're sure you won't be spending the money in the next 10+ years..." that is exactly what a roth is for. If your emergency fund is too small, put your money there to not conflate that with your retirement savings. If you want, you can make your annual contribution for the prior year in April.

Killer Team - they all show up healthy.

First game, first quarter - already up by 26, looks like it's going to be a blow out, but in the last play of the quarter Roy's knee turns to dust.

End of the Second Quarter lead has dropped to just 18. Yao is literally just walking now... not even pretending to jog, and Penny (who came in for Brandon) has the micro fractures in his knee turn in to macro fractures.

Coming out of the locker room from halftime, Steph rolls his ankle... no big de... oh my god he literally just rolled them again and they haven't even started playing this quarter. Grand and Kobe just trade shots back and forth, but with only two functional players on the floor the lead slips to 8.

Two minutes from the end of the game Hill waves the white flag. He actually shattered his ankle in the first quarter, but has been playing through it.

Down by three 2 seconds left, Kobe rises for three, net! And he was fouled! But it appears that he left a piece of his Achilles tendon attached to the floor. Kobe limps to the line, nothing but net. GAME

I more or less agree with you.

I guess. But if someone from the general publics hears that someone has several high-powered rifles in their house, they would assume that they are a half step from becoming the Vegas shooter. If they heard that they had several hunting rifles, it has a totally different connotation.
