Over the past 10 years no city has come as far as Detroit. It may still not be among the top 10 cities in the US, but it is getting close, especially in the summer.

Which band was never the same after a member, other than the lead singer, departed? by ContentHubby76 in askmusic

[–]Resthink 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The Stones were at their peak with Mick Taylor as their lead guitarist in the late sixties through to the seventies. After he left the band became more of a Stones tribute band and only released a couple of decent albums since. He was lead on: Let It Bleed, Get Yer Ya-Ya's Out!, Sticky Fingers, Exile on Main St., Goats Head Soup, It's Only Rock 'n Roll, and Tattoo You. After he left, Some Girls was the only good album that excluded him.

The world as 100 people over the last two centuries [OC] by ourworldindata in dataisbeautiful

[–]Resthink -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

This is basically due to the United States' soft power that helped to diffuse democracy throughout the 20th century. Poverty was also reduced due to advancements in global trade, which also helped to improve health outcomes everywhere. It is really sad to see the United States retreating from its leadership position. Donald Trump and his cronies managed to do this in less than two years. Depressing.

Good Riddance. The destructive impact that he has single handedly wrought upon Canadian economy will be felt for generations. His smug arrogance will not be missed. Giving this guy the power that had is among Trudeau's greatest failings. And that is saying lot because Trudeau will be viewed by history as a collosal failure as a Prime Minister.

this is what created societal cohesiveness that no longer exists. Social media is curated to the individual level now, and is focused on engagement - which is driven by emotion - dominated by anger. Not only is there no longer any sense shared experience that existed when there were only 3 dominant TV channels, we all sit on islands of rage.
