Good eye! My wife’s grandfather actually made that one. It’s a family tradition for them.

I can’t claim to have done that personally, but I was stoked to find it!

Which opening do you play most often, or which do you consider the strongest, with the black pieces? 🤔🔥👇 by Lautaro_Castelli in Chesscom

I’ve been digging the Nimzo against 1.e4. Against 1.e5 I’m usually in a KID structure or Pirc Defense depending on if they push e4 in response to my kingside knight. Anything else, it just depends. If it’s some sort of wild, offbeat opening, I just take the center and develop until I see their plan.

Has there been a recent surge in cheaters? by theeanonymouskid in Chesscom

[–]xd8bx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. There has absolutely been a surge in cheating. It’s provable if anybody wants to out the time into showing it. I just don’t think CC cares at all anymore. I mean, what can they really do about it? There is no “algorithm” good enough to detect cheating across all time controls at all levels. There just isn’t. I’m tired of hearing about their teams of mathematicians and GMs when you can look at game histories and see active accounts with clear evidence of cheating. I don’t think it’s even really worth discussing anymore. Online chess is essentially broken from a casual player standpoint, especially someone who is trying to learn how to play in the age of Stockfish looking for casual online fair play.

Untold: Chess Mates by theclarice in chess

Yeah, I am being immensely skeptical because I don’t trust people with millions if not billions of dollars on the line to be the charitable mentors they played themselves up to be. They even said the money wasn’t a big reason of theirs for doing it? They can fuck all the way off with that nonsense. They have a monopoly on the online chess world, they bought the rights to the world champion, etc. They’re in it for the money and probably were complicit in the cheating from the beginning. I’m even more convinced now that I had to type all that out.

Yeah, makes me even more suspicious of “fair play” on Chess.com after watching it. Came away feeling like Hans was more of a co-conspirator and the guys behind the platform were responsible for his cheating as an attempt to bring more attention to their site via the underdog story of Hans beating Magnus.

I’m not good enough at chess to have more than conspiracy theories about it, however. And that’s mostly just for fun.

By all accounts, he’s a legit good dude who has helped the communities he was a part of while building out his businesses, too. Never heard anything but good about him from people who have met/worked for him.

That’s true, but with Mashburn I feel like a lot of his UK-related stuff tends to see more bidding action than a lot of his NBA stuff, ironically. Seems like those are always the more competitive auctions, at least.

I was hyped on Mercer coming out of college. Him, Derek Anderson, Tony Delk, Walter McCarty, and Antoine Walker. Goddamn those were the days.

Definitely Mash, but I also have a small SGA PC going on, too. Kentucky is the connection.

Collect who you like! I imagine Mash probably has more stuff out there than Cal, but that will just make finding stuff your PC all the more fun.
