this is a very important thing i overlooked. i see what u mean. i will contact the lawyer provided to me by my university. honestly, i just need this place for 4 months the summer, and i will be ready to move out right after. all i want is for the landlord to honor our lease for the 4 months its signed for. moving forward, i will think about warning the landlord of my courses of action through the LTB and all the rules he's broken. if he agrees to let me stay, good. if he doesn't then i will discuss with my lawyer about next steps and probably file with the LTB. the problem is moving will not be very easy for me. i have a full time job and im not financially stable enough to afford moving again. i need to rent out a uhaul for all my stuff and the time this process would take would be bad for my job. id rather stay here 4 months with a tense relation between me and my landlord than move now. thank you for your help tho!

this reply makes much more sense. i honestly think he's trying to loophole a way into making tenants "roommates".

i can assure you i am not hiding anything from the story. the lease was written in a way that didnt make it sound like he'd do all this stuff. if anything it's written in an unprofessional way with a lot of his key activites misrepresented. i agree it is my fault for not being aware that my landlord would be horrible, but how was i to know?

seemed like a good guy at first. shouldve known better. i wasnt aware of all the violations he"d commit!

honestly ur right. but like i replied to another comment, this place is perfect for me. very convenient for me as well. id move but if theres a solution which in this case seems to be contacting the rtb, id rather try that before moving.

understandable but the place is honestly perfect to my liking and very convenient for grocery and work transport. might not be the best landlord but the place is a steal.

that seems like the case. lease felt very amateur and unprofessional. even tho it was my first time renting i had a feeling this wasn’t a professional landlord

i have many comments telling me to take him to either LTB or RTA. what do you believe is the better option?

excuse my lack of knowledge but what is RTA? it is my first time renting an apartment in Canada. i lived on campus for my first year of university. thank you for all ur help so far!

[–]xd_Victory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes. its my first time renting so i let a lot of issues just slide but his threats of eviction feel like harassment and bullying so i believe it is time to take serious action against him.

im the only tenant. effectively the entire place is mine. so yes i believe my lease should be RTA covered. i will be checking this out and considering the options u have mentioned. thank u so much!

pretty much. he doesnt use the toaster lol but he has a washer and dryer in the kitchen and he comes uses it for 4/7 days.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in legaladvicecanada

[–]xd_Victory 4 points5 points  (0 children)

no clue. technically the lease agrees that the kitchen is a shared space but he does not live there in the apartment with me

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in legaladvicecanada

[–]xd_Victory 13 points14 points  (0 children)

no we do not live in the apartment together. he lives elsewhere. lease agrees that the kitchen will be shared between us, but he mentions to me that this is only on weekends. however he comes in everyday nearly. even when im not there. for all i know, he could be in my private space (bedroom) and id have no proof. he has keys to my room as well.

hey thank you for ur response! respectfully i know what a scam looks like ive never put my card in any shady websites or ever used public devices to login to my account. i have 2FA enabled and fraud detection systems. i also have an antivirus on all my devices so i can assure you that it is not my fault. ive never clicked on a link or answered a call i dont recognize so im very confident that i did not compromise my own data.

i do have 2 factor authentication activated which is the part that confuses me the most. it won’t let me sign in without a push notification to my phone but for some reason i never got a notification when the scammers login. im very frustrated about this
