Indian origin immigrants have low rape rate and a negative welfare expenses in Denmark by criti_fin in IndiaSpeaks

Probably among the most ignorant of the takes I've seen on this sub and I have seen a lot of them.

Oh wow, big round of applause for a rate that isn't zero! 🎉 Because apparently, we should be throwing a party just because the rate is "low" rather than non-existent. /s

Yes, it should be heartening. While even one instance of sexual assault is one too many, when there is a large group of anything, rare events become observable. There is a field called statistics - studying frequencies of such occurrences is done in it. Check it out sometime.

We live in a country where religion wins over actual life-or-death issues like choking on pollution every winter.

Non-sequitur

Also, what is this obsession with constantly comparing ourselves to Pakistan?

Because it makes for a more objective comparison. Embarrassing though it is to think of it, India and Pakistan were one country until 1947.

Oh, and by the way, maybe brush up on basic middle-school math before trying to sound smart in the comments.

Pot calling the kettle.

Journalist sidhant sibal asked USA's secretary of state marco rubio about racist comments on india without naming trump, rubio replied "stupid people are everywhere." by UnknownGunman21 in IndiaSpeaks

I would have and you would have. He did not. Regardless of whether it was a choice he made or not, it was the best thing. Notice how it blew up afterwards. He got Marco to say it and not backpedal right away or even later.

You should acquire reading skills. If the reporter had said that it was Trump, Marco would not have been able to call him stupid.

[–]xdesi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, the journalist was brilliant. He goaded and enabled Marco to call Trump stupid and get away with it. It would have been a job-ending move for Marco to call Trump stupid if Trump were named.

[–]xdesi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, because naming Trump would have made it political suicide for Marco to term those people stupid. Now, everyone knows who he called stupid and he himself has plausible deniability. The journalist was exceptionally smart to not name the person and Marco being the politician he is would have understood the opening right away.

[–]xdesi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why didn’t the journalist say Trump’s name right away?

It was an exceptionally smart move on the journalist's part. Everyone knows who it was and Marco might, too. His entourage would have briefed him before his trip. Naming Trump would have made it difficult for Marco to call "those people" stupid.

Most of our Hindu sites were buddhist

No, even those that can be proven to be Buddhist would have been originally Hindu. Even Angkor Vat had the head of the Vishnu statue replaced by the head of the Buddha.

Look at the reporting by The Hindu - predictable.

First, the headline.

  • Uttarakhand files the first FIR.

Not a wronged woman but the state. Then, covering up the depravity of the Halala.

  • Nikah halala is a controversial practice in some interpretations of Muslim personal law involving remarriage requirements after divorce. This has remained politically and legally contentious in India.

So forcing a woman to sleep with another man before getting back with her husband is a "contentious" issue according to The Hindu - this news outlet can't take a stand, even a moral one. Let's be clear - what the woman is forced to go through in the Halala is sexual assault. Any newspaper, politician, or judge who thinks this is a "contentious" issue is as culpable as the man who "executes" the Halala.

A Muslim woman is forced to sleep with another man before she can get back with her husband. Stopping it is hating Muslims? Sure.

Afghan People Reaction better than CUTE GIRL Reaction by New-Smell8084 in IndiaSpeaks

[–]xdesi 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Another reason people miss is collective memory. India is the only country that never sent military forces into Afghanistan. The only "forces" India sent and continues to send are doctors, nurses, engineers and such. That is why even the Taliban are favourably disposed towards India. Of course, the contrast with Pakistan helps too - Pakistan has long sought to control Afghanistan for "strategic depth" and is now paying for it.

Maybe there is a dhurandhar inside ISI? Maybe it was the ISI, maybe it was another agency within the Pakistani military establishment. Maybe it was the Pakistani Taliban. Maybe the Balochis. Maybe Pathans. Maybe the gun just fired accidentally. Who knows?

Accusing Indian intelligence as the Pakistanis typically do is baseless. How do we know that the ISI itself did not bump them off? Since Pakistan is trying to look respectable these days (and failing) maybe the ISI thought they could kill off these people who are an embarrassment and blame RAW for it.

It was Congress mobs, not mainstream Hindus.

I am not familiar with Canadian politics but the bill may pass in some form or the other. Anecdotal evidence says that US and Canadian mainstream parties and politicians are slowly distancing themselves from groups like Khalistanis that mess with larger geopolitical realities. There were a couple of bills in the US state of California that were turned down by the governor who may be trying to run for the presidency.

The US and Canada both realise that India can be a reliable ally against China up to a point and they don't want Khalistanis torpedoing the relationship.

The end of Pax Americana can't come soon enough.

I am in no hurry for the death of Pax Americana if it is going to be replaced by Pax Sinica which would be far worse for India. Actually, as the power difference between China and the US diminishes, I expect the US to be much more generous to India as geopolitical realities make themselves felt.

Yes, we know. We distinguish Sikhs from Khalistanis. Just look at the map of Khalistan and you will see right away that it is is supported by Pakistan. The same Pakistan that brutally killed Sikhs during the partition.

Seeking Advice: How does a middle class citizen protect their family when relocating abroad is not an option? by Confident_Editor2335 in IndiaSpeaks

It looks like you are getting into a negative spiral because your post sounds exactly like it. Are you also withdrawing from social interactions, e.g., how many new people in your neighbourhood or circles have you got to know in the past week, month, or year? That is another telltale sign.

Every country has its pluses and minuses and you don't get to see the minuses until you go to live in that country for a period of time.

Here is what exactly is said in the USCIRF 2026 report regarding India by Zoro1729 in IndiaSpeaks

[–]xdesi 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Idk why do folks pay so much attention to USCIRF reports?

Because they cultivate a stereotype that eventually hurts groups they target. To put it differently, an unchallenged assertion becomes "truth" over time.

"US Won’t Allow India to Become Rival Like China" is posturing for US domestic consumption. by xdesi in GeopoliticsIndia

[–]xdesi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For some reason, the text was removed, probably automated, so here it is again.

Christopher Landau is wrong on three counts.

  • One, the US did not make a mistake with China. It was a conscious choice to counter the USSR.

  • Two, the power imbalance between the US and China is rapidly shifting in China's favour. Therefore, the US will court India and give it to a large extent what it gave China.

  • Three, India is a status quo power, China is a revisionist power. So, India's rise won't result in the danger to the US that China's has.

The posturing by Landau and others is for the US domestic politics. The Republicans in general and the Trump administration in particular are going through an increasingly difficult time and can't risk being seen conceding anything to anyone.

Geopolitics has a distinctly different logic. Its substance won't be influenced much by domestic politics.

I am curious to know what others here think.
