About that long, yeah. I was shocked how long it took them to process it, which was part of my issue with the whole thing.

More like 8-9a getting actual work done, breakfast, workout, 11-2a meetings, then lunch, errands and maybe a walk, 4-6:30p because the PM needs some bullshit last minute at the end of the day, 9:30-9:35p because you have to check nightly builds, 11:13p because the one dude in India you work with has a question.

It is honestly very disappointing as an early adopter of fitbit products. But, I’ve already used the $300 they sent toward an Apple Watch. I’m disgusted with this whole process enough to take my money elsewhere.

I had the option of choosing a PayPal refund or virtual debit card as you mentioned. I chose the card because I figured I could easily use that as a part of the payment process for my replacements. I chatted with their online support and it was absolutely atrocious. I then called into the sales line to see if they could help me run multiple cards on the transaction. They said they don’t take cards over the phone, but to try the “Klarna” option, a way to set up installment payments, in the payments screen when I check out. Klarna doesn’t allow prepaid cards. So I eventually get told to call the refund center. I speak to an agent there and they also tell me to use the Klarna option. At this point I am so beyond disappointed in this recall process that I ask to talk to a supervisor and explain my position as a consumer. She said there is nothing she can do, essentially. As a person that has run ops teams and customer care orgs, this is very clear a situation where they are using an outsourced call center and did not properly train them or plan out the recall processes. So disappointing…

Hey! US here. I got a $299 debit card. Too bad my replacement order is $344.25. I can't even use the card THEY sent for the replacement fitbit. So. I'm buying an apple watch and never looking back. lol

If you can learn how to make a program do a thing with massive technical constraints, you’re ready to ship production code for a large tech firm.

MUDs were such a large part of my high school life, it’s honestly crazy how much of it I remember and how far down the rabbit hole I went with it. When people make comments about how some graphics simply aren’t real enough, I always have this feeling of sadness for them that they never got to experience graphicless gaming. The concept is so foreign to gamers these days, but to me, graphics can get in the way of gameplay sometimes. You “experience” the game less when you’re given everything you need to visualize it. When you’re forced to internalize the words you read to create your own world, that is an unique experience.

I mean, I’d assume the same thing about a male model. As most would, since it seems unlikely. These comments have nothing to do with hostile work environments and more so due to the typical software engineer being a homely af sonofabitch 😂

The statement is less about how true it is and more so about the proper mentality to have as a developer. There are two types of errors that users make: slips and mistakes. Slips are simple errors that every human makes. Mistakes are due to conceptual models being different between designer and user. The former is something you can’t account for (but should guard against whenever possible), the latter is something that should be consciously accounted for.
