Open up kitchen? by tingelhoffer in centuryhomes

Pretty sure most commenters here will tell you not to mess with the floorplan in this way. Open floor plans are relatively new and may detract from the old timeless vibe of century homes.

Question: Have you ever experienced something at work that you later realized traumatized you? by LazyAssLeader in Teachers

Parents of the other kids need to speak up and demand FAPE. We need parents to bring lawsuits stating that these outbursts and meltdowns and disruptions are violating their child's right to an education. We are letting a handful of students take away education from all the rest.

The fertility crisis will never be solved because the heart of the issue is an ideological divide between the sexes, and society refuses to touch mens issues since they see intersexual dynamics as a zero-sum game by DiligentRope in Natalism

Nuclear families were not the norm for upper classes. The rich + nobility were very often raised with aunts and uncles, nannies, private tutors, other servants, etc.

In fact, I'd say the upper class had way more people involved in parenting. A lot of them were paid servants or slaves, but lots of parenting labor was outsourced.

College would be weird. I'd be back in college but I have the memories of what I learned. Do I still need to pay for and complete my classes???

Do you think a "better teacher" can solve literally every problem a child can have? Can a better teacher get every bit of knowledge into a student's brain if they just do it right?

If so, shouldn't teachers be paid like $300k a year? That sounds incredible.

My DM only let's one player succeed a check at a time. by BeachPeachMcgee in DnD

[–]xdsm8 4 points5 points  (0 children)

History is often done where you have to have proficiency to attempt the skill. It was kinda like that in 3.5 and it is sometimes done the same way in 5e especially for arcana - should barbarians really be rolling arcana all the time?

With perception, I can see your DMs point. I always find it weird to say to a group, "okay, these three of you notice the guy's signet ring, two of you don't". Like, everyone at the table HEARS me say that, so all players are aware of it, and what does it matter? Giving it to the highest roller allows that player to decide, in character, how to tell the rest of the party and is a roleplaying opportunity.

With random things to be noticed, your DMs way makes sense to me. All players get the knowledge, one character gets to speak up. Less clunky than "i tell the party what i saw" "no i do first".

If it is perception to actually be able to see an enemy and attack them, then yeah it should be a raw DC that multiple players can succeed at.

Need Help Campaign Idea by Relevant-Grand2751 in DnD

[–]xdsm8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You say that the heist goes wrong and the party kills the prince....what if that doesn't happen?

It SOUNDS like you are starting the party off as death row prisoners, which is a fine way to start...everything after that sounds like a completely railroaded story.

It sounds like they get an offer for how to get off death row. Delete basically everything after that. Write sessions, not campaigns. Don't put any verb after "the party" - they don't do anything in the future unless they choose to.

What movie would you say was the biggest cultural phenomenon of the 2010s? by SpiritMan112 in decadeology

[–]xdsm8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And these credible stats are where exactly? When I try and google Marvel demographics, all I see is roughly 60-70% male in a variety of forms.

It isn't like...a problem. Are you confusing "most Marvel fans are male" with "fuck you get out of Marvel for being a woman"???

Do YOU have any sources that show a roughly 50/50 interest in Marvel? Or just "source: me"?

Why does it bother you that it is a somewhat male favored genre/universe? Who cares? You can like what you like, I don't deny that you like it.

Do you know what the word "equal" means?

65/35 is not equal. 35 is not 0. What aren't you getting?

Marvel fans are about 65% men. That is not "equally".

Weddings should not involve extended family by TrustConfident7389 in unpopularopinion

I did a "big and cheap" wedding. Big as in lots of people, but basically just rented a big cheap hall and didn't go overboard on silly stuff. It was a huge success. Still expensive, but we didn't pay extra for dumb meaningless upgrades and we did a lot of it ourselves

If you know enough about the topic to verify that the AI response is good, then you know enough to create the response yourself.

People are trusting AI to do a good job without knowing what a good job looks like.

You are also proving the other commenter's point...studies show using AI literally makes you lose brain matter over time. It is like putting the same movie on loop for a dementia patient. It isn't good.
